You can get inserts for the collectors to quiet it down. Then he can keep the rest of the system intact. You can even customize the inserts louder or quieter easily. I used to run a pair of the 3" version, and it helps. I think jegs or summit have them...

I have the dynomax super turbo's sounds quiet and very nice. Sounds pretty stock to me. Its the muffler TTI includes with their exhaust.

There are also collector inserts you can put in the ends of your headers that will quite it enough so its legal (and they have a spiral effect that is suppose to speed up the exhaust for a scavenging efftect), but still sound awesome. Then you dont even need mufflers. Thats what I was running...

The TTI's are a work of art. Worth every penny. If it were me, I would just use manifolds until you can get the good ones. The only downside to the headers its they make it very very tight to work on anything on the lower drivers side of the engine bay (steering, starter, transmission ect.)

They are just glasspacks from what I can tell. I think the "real" chambered exhaust from back in the day was hollow. The sound clip of the 73 charger sounds exactly like my Duster did when I had 3" flowtech purple-hornies (header mufflers/glassopacks) installed. I could swear I was listening to...
