modern alt w low rpm output

The only alternator that fit a small block properly WAS the Mechman sold by Flaming River. I asked the Flaming River at SEMA why they were discontinued. The representative had no idea what I was even talking about. My guess it was $700. I have one and it's perfect and the only unit that is 4.25"...

I replaced mine too. The Edelbrock tech told me to buy one from Standard. Their customer service is wrong on so many levels.

I have no idea why you would need any other type of ignition with this efi setup. If there is some sort of spark issue, I’d trouble shoot the system. I have higher compression too, 11.3 and make 505 hp. The higher altitudes have less air, but the af ratio is maintained by the efi setup.

What engine management system are you using?

Their distributor will fit in an A body, but wire clearance at the wiper motor is very tight.

Depending on your level of expertise, it can be done. For most though, you want to use their distributor. Unfortunately it’s taller than a common MSD replacement distributor. I wanted a sanitary look, so I shortened the housing to gain clearance between the wiper motor and the spark plug boots.

I know. I started the thread.

The easiest way to deal with the timing issue that Edelbrock says doesn’t exist is to purchase the MSD adjustable rotor. The correct number is earlier in the thread. I’ve deal with Brian at IMM. Great guy. I’d love to know your engine specs and dyno results. As far as the alternator goes, the...

No box necessary. I run 30 degrees total with 11:3 compression. What are your af specs?

I didn’t add a specific number of degrees. I rotated the engine to 30 degrees and made sure the rotor was closer to the #1 terminal on the cap.

In my case, I had popping out of the exhaust with anything more than 18 degrees total. Once I slotted the reluctor so I wasn't firing the next cylinder, I'm able to go to 30 and beyond without issues.

If you get any type of popping or breaking up as you try to accelerate, you'll know there is a problem. This was apparent to me right away when I set the system up. I scratched my head for months until I got into looking at it more carefully. As soon as I slotted the reluctor, the system...

Once I straightened out the phasing, the system is flawless. I also shortened the distributor to fit under the wiper motor. I’m at 20 initial/30 total. This is similar to where I wound up when I ran this engine on the dyno before installing. 410,11:3, hydraulic roller

Initially almost anything will work. It’s once the timing advances, the problem starts.

Lol. I believe this was a small block mopar problem only.
  16. BergmanAutoCraft

    Ammeter Maxed

First off, you need a real alternator that can generate the necessary amps to run your fans. The crappy mopar alternators aren’t capable of doing this properly. Even the high amp ones don’t supply clean, ample current at idle. Once you install a proper unit, add a good size charge cable to go...

I presented this on the forum. One of the guys who pretends to be the moderator just tried to belittle me. After the fact the real moderator asked for photos of the distributor after it was installed. I posted the photo of slotting the shutter wheel. I emailed a reply to efi tech with my...

Once the wires were on, mine was jammed up against the wiper motor. However, I'm using a 72 and earlier k with sandwich mounts. There are several other scenarious that could affect the height; ie, solid mounts, 73 and up K, /6 k and conversion mounts.

Remember guys, the distributor is too tall for A bodies. I shortened mine 3/4" by taking a section out of the billet lower housing and cutting/rebroaching the shaft to create clearance.
