Dog Dish Grip on Reproduction Steel Wheel

I worked up a set of those years ago for a guy with an old Ford truck. After finally getting a return call, I learned the owner of Wheel Vintiques was the one spraying 28-37 mils of primer on them. 3-4 mils is the industry standard. Good luck blasting that $hit.

    Powder Coat Wheels??

Things to remember about DIY powder coating: 1. Don't make your first attempt on an important part of your car. Practice on scrap steel and aluminum (which needs more/different prep), old brackets and small stuff you can easily blast again until your results meet your expectations; powder is...

    My ebay buy..omg

Both are pot metal. Make sure you choose an experienced metal finisher who knows what to do with it or you will be receiving an apology along with the invoice. As a safer alternative, they can be plastic dipped. If you don't like it you can just peel it off.

    Paint Black Design on Hubcap

That's right up my alley! Though raised and recessed areas are treated differently in my industry, the color breaks/lines turn out sharp.

    Polishing Around Rivets...

A Mother's Power Cone (similar to their PowerBall) works well on those, and even on evil Convo Pros. It gets into the recesses so your fingers don't have to.

Rallye Rims - Plasti Dip update!

Sorry ... I had to. Too ricer for me, and an affront to my industry.

    Rallye Wheels don't fit now

They were from the factory. Sadly, most other places won't even try to do them right.

    Rallye Wheels don't fit now

Thanks for the props Karl :D He is a newbie around here so we can't be too harsh with marking the territory. Powder should only be a few mils thick when it's done right. I'd bet it's around the hub ... and Rallyes are supposed to be two colors, light and dark argent.

Powder Coating Lady- does anyone know her name or website?

No worries!! I'm very blessed with lots of work. We're also assuming he wants to doll up aluminum rims. If they're steel I'm happy to help.

Powder Coating Lady- does anyone know her name or website?

I truly appreciate all of these comments more than you guys can know!! Now that you've thoroughly swelled up my head, I must be the first to point out to poor rod up there that I usually don't mess around with alloy rims for a few reasons. If they're brand new (or steel), that's one thing ...

Dennis, just call me and save all that research. :-D I know exactly what you're looking for.

15 inch small bolt Rallye Wheels???????

Glad to hear it worked out for you woofer! Sad though that you had to return them for something that should have been included in the first place -- without the clear topcoat, your rims would have oxidized over time (silver powder isn't UV stable without it).

    Leanna's PSC "B5 Blue: trials

Thanks guys!!! :-D I'm going to post a link to this thread in my B5 thread from last week just to help spread the good news.

    Leanna's PSC "B5 Blue: trials

Whewwwwwww!! The crowd cheers!!! Tom, thank you so much for the pictures, and most especially for your willingness to help out with my neverending quest for B5. :-D It does look pretty dang close! From here on out now, the little variations in paint manufacturer and year should be fairly...

Wheel Vintiques' new 15" by 4" by 4" BC

Thank YOU Tom!!! I sent you a separate email last night -- errrrrr, well, very early this morning anyway lol -- with more pictures taken inside and outside, as well as a few ultra close ups. The metal flake in the base coat is stunning and the end result with the candy blue on top is a...

Well Tom, I've tried to call you a few times today without any success. Here's a little teaser ... :-D After years of experimentation, could it finally be ......... B5???? Keeping my fingers, toes, and everything else I've got two of crossed in the meantime. Call me when you get a few...

Wheel Vintiques' new 15" by 4" by 4" BC

... but remember it's NOT going to cost the same on my end because I have to blast it all off to start with bare metal. I don't trust anybody else's prep work, nor do I expect you to.

Oh, it'll be a lot more fun than fighting with that primer WV uses. I could've sworn you told me they were shipping them bare. :-(

    Painting Steel Wheels

... and don't forget about all that tire wet and Armor-All over the years that leeches in. Silicone based lubricants are one of the main reasons I don't coat most rims.

Best way to prep rallye wheels for paint?

Bennie, if you left the backs in bare metal, you'll eventually have the same kind of "rust creep" that Ross kind of mentioned in Post #8 up there. It's one of the main reasons why when powder coating something it's usually done on the entire part -- it encapsulates it completely to help keep...

Best way to prep rallye wheels for paint?

Arghhhhhhhh!!! 1970Duster, with all due respect hun, if you have to "make sure" your powder coater blasts it first, then you're not hiring a coater; you're just paying somebody too much money to practice on your parts, and it's a pretty good call that the job won't last and you won't be happy...

    Making a mopar more badass

You'd seriously put Winnie The Pooh rims on your car??? If that's indeed true, I'd just have to coat the Hello Kitty exhaust accent for free. LOL

    Making a mopar more badass

Paint vs. Powder Coating Rallye Wheels

Whewwwwwwwww, tough crowd! :-D I totally understand, and it's the main reason I don't do a lot of rims at my place. Four steelies, two 8x10s and two 8x16s Wheel Vintiques Gennys, cost almost $100 heavily insured one way just to Mississippi (not very far). See below for the rest, since that...
