My "new" '74 Duster- or why I need a project like a hole in the head

But, but you're driving it in the snow! You should stop! Your car will melt with cancer with all the snow and salt! It should be kept in a climate controlled garage or trailer and only driven 500 miles a year. :poke: J/K (The reaction of some when they see someone driving theirs in...

    1968 Plymouth Barracuda Restoration

I am so sorry for your loss. Thank you for your son's service. I have served as well and did some tours in the Middle East, granted all's I've done is operate trenchers to bury fiberoptic network cables at remote bases at various locations, also repaired and relocated comm. systems. I've met...

Hmm... I see you're using the same headlight setup as I am... Great choice!

My "new" '74 Duster- or why I need a project like a hole in the head

Ahhh! A 3G Hemi in an A-body instead of an LA motor... Eww, bad, hiss hiss!. I'm kidding I'm not that "other guy" *cough* '68cuda416 *ahem* anyways... Good job on that build!

1969 Valiant 4 door Gas Sipper

Oof... Housepaint, even painted over the decals. Man what were these kids doing? Glad you're saving it.

    1974 Duster build

And also to update... I sold the bike to a happy young couple... Primary reason is I got tired of the crazies on the road, both 2 and 4 legged. Secondary is I needed more funds for home landscaping and more work on the duster. Sayin' goodbye:

    1974 Duster build

Sorry for not responding to your question earlier. Been crazy busy. - Yes I'm still using the NVU gauges, The tach started wiggin' out because of a factory defect, they replaced it for free. - The Dakota Digital looked nice as well, it just didn't have that nostalgic look to it like the...

    1974 Duster build

Not quite duster related, but I have been busy putting back my bike together after a deer strike a year back. I'll need another means of transportation while I do some serious work on the duster as well as assembling the 408. And also using something with much better gas mileage for now. I'm...

    1974 Duster build

Well... Not too much to update at the moment. The 408 build is (very) slowly coming along. Mainly due to parts on back-order and high shipping costs. I tried ordering a headliner from Layson's, apparently their supplier has skyrocketed in price due to rising material costs, shipping has...

    70 duster: updating, and a no-dough pro-touring makeover

Hmm this is similar to what I'm doing to mine (restomod). <subscribed>

1967 Dodge Dart GT daily driver build

You can also get some at RockAuto.com. You can also get a digital technical service manual for them as well. (which I did). My original owners manual sadly, was used as construction material in some farm rat's love nest. But I lucked out and got another one from a free 74' parts duster. It was...

Where'd you get that rear tail sticker like that on the duster? I know it's probably not official but I kinda like it.

    Project`67 Dart GT 340 A500

Nice, one of these days I'm going to take a trip up that way to Wendell, ID. and visit that large salvage yard, L&L I believe which they specialize in classic cars. The local classic car salvage here in Ogden, (B&R Salvage) is only open a few hours on Wed. and Sat. because of his "covid"...

    1974 Duster build

Me too, in fact I was close! Couple of days after I did this, I drove to Colorado taking the scenic route, 10 hours one way to Louisville to visit the wife visiting her family. Then from there we drove up to Estes Park to the cabin I rented for a few days, to *ahem* celebrate our 10th yr...

    1974 Duster build

DionR, I actually went with the QA1 shocks. Lemme say, MUCH better. I was using KYB shocks, which was good with the stock torsion bars (.89). But once I put the 1.03" ones in that combo rode like a tank. Here is the shocks I used: (front) QA1 TN501 QA1 Stocker Star NA Shocks | Summit Racing...

Also, forgot to mention I upgraded the radiator as well last summer. She now cools much better especially in 100+ temps!

Well... Time for another over-due update: We finally got a new house (I mean new, built in Sep. 2020). We lucked out finding this house that was only 5 weeks from completion when we bought it. What a pain! We spent pretty much the whole 2020 summer looking at houses putting in offers and losing...

    1974 Duster build

Well just to update. I'm currently homeless with a huge wad of cash since mid-July. I sold my house and trying to get a newer, bigger model. With the house market going bonkers here in Utah it's harder than I thought. So the last thing I did was update the old gauge panel and and put on new...

    1974 Duster build

Whew been awhile! Currently in the process of installing a refurbished dash. Getting rid of the cheap dash-cap and shipping back the old dash back to the Ebay store for a core charge. Also taking out my budget gauge panel and putting in a new aftermarket one from Classic dash. All in all, the...

    1974 Duster build

Well I finally decided to tear into the A500 I acquired awhile ago. It's out of a 92 dakota 2wd with a 5.2. As you can see it does need a rebuild. But all in all it was actutally in not too bad shape. As far as I can see all the clutches appear to be a red-orange color. The fluid does smell a...

    1974 Duster build

Done! Much improved handling, although it did make the ride a bit more stiff. The alignment telemetry improve quite a bit as well. (No more set-negative camber due to weak torsion bars). Now to get her aligned again.

    1974 Duster build

Time for a long overdue update: My next upgrade. Reinforced lower control arms with swaybar tabs. Proforged ball joints and C-Body tierod ends. QA1 C-body tierod sleeve. And a performance PST 1.03" torsion bar to replace the 45 year old stock .87" one. This thing will handle much better once...

    Project`67 Dart GT 340 A500

That'll be me! Snow tires and a 150 pound toolbox in the trunk. Hardly ever an issue. I do notice that once there is more than 4 inches of snow on the road It gets a little nerve wracking. Over 6 inches, I'm callin' a snow day or borrowing the wife's Tahoe.

    1974 Duster build

Another update: Still weighing on whether to do an A500 trans swap (I did acquire an A500 trans for 150, needs rebuild), or putting in a manual transmission (I did acquire a rotted out shell of a S6 manual duster but no tranny). I'm leaning more to the A500 swap. I've been daily driving this...

    1974 Duster build

It has good doors, Hood, trunk lid, trunk floor, manual trans hump.clutch pedal, z-bars (for slant 6) and decent bumpers. All I care about is the manual trans stuff, hood and maybe one of he doors.
  29. Cuprum-74

    1974 Duster build

Just the trans hump, hood and maybe one of the doors. Fenders are cancered, and so are the quarters. The floors are gone as well.
  30. Cuprum-74

    1974 Duster build

Not quite. I found a shell of a cancered out 74 Duster that had a manual trans in it. I'm thinking of converting it to manual. Once that is done, the A500 conversion might be done on the wife's satellite.
