Years ago (1977ish) I had my 361 big block rebuilt. The bottom ring on one piston was found to be broken in half but did not score the cylinder wall. The engine had been running just fine.

Thanks for the video. I read some engineering papers on the combustion engine back in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The modern understanding of the mechanisms involved with the combustion process are much more advanced due to the use of sensors and computer modeling.

I would say yes that you can compare apples to apples since nature itself doesn’t produce identical apples. So I believe that one can compare all engines of a specific displacement. The differences will be what is done with each of them during the build and the components used.
