    ATTENTION 318 owners: any interest???

1/2 hour on the highway? How about 15 minutes. 4.88 gears with 4000 stall its a little rough to run 30 minutes at 55.

    Show off your small block.

Yes. However I had to trim the hood braces and the back of the hood brace. I also had to trim the air filter. If I used mopars air cleaner I would not have to trim anything. But I used a Mr. Norms air cleaner. Yes it's a stock hood.

Moroso blue valve cover gaskets are leaking, please help

99 percent of the time it's not the heads surface that leaks. It's the imperfection in the valve cover. I use mopars gaskets that are very similar to moroso. Steel shim covered in rubber. I also use mopar cast aluminum valve covers. Silicone the gasket to the cover. Let cure over night before...

WTF is this THING in our 340 ?!?!?!?

Had the intake off my race motor. Laid down shop rags in the valley to keep anything falling into the motor. Put the intake back on with rags still in there. Within to passes oil pressure went to 10 instead of fifty at idle. Then I remembered the rags. The rags had been so chewed up my motor was...

So what am I looking at exactly

Take the rocker shaft off. Stick a telescoping magnet and see if you can pull a lifter out. Then you will know if it's solid or hydralic.

    who took my six pack?

Sorry man. I just did a couple of searches myself. I had know idea the manifolds have become scarce. Herbs for 369.00 looks like your option.

    who took my six pack?

Got the intake from jegs 3 years ago. Mr. Norms air cleaner off eBay for two hundred. Air cleaner I made or shorten. It's a tractor filter. Worked hard because I didn't want to cut the hood.

I have a question about A/F readings and a cam

340 six pack. 11.3 to 11.5 at idle. Cam 550 solid lifter. 13 to 13.5 at 3000 to 3500 rpm. Full wot 10.5. First off I have to run 10% ethonal gas. So your afr has to be richened up to at least 13 to 13.5. Idle is at 900 rpms. Aem afr gauges in both sides. So does cam have affect on afr...

    Header bolts stripped

You can try small pair of vise grips. If you can get a dremal in there and flatten part of the bolt for the vise grips to grab.

    Poly Locs or Mag Mounts?

Wrap the torsion bar with header wrap just in that area. Had the same problem with 1.03 bars and dougs headers in 67 barracuda.

    cometic gaskets

I had cometic gaskets make me .100 thick head gaskets. I had j heads milled down to 59 cc for my race motors. I wanted to use those heads on a street motor I put together. So I had cometic make me the head gaskets to get my compression ratio to 9.5 to 1. I have reused the gaskets 3 times with no...

Valve cover gaskets on a 340

Ditto. Take the dremal to the valve cover. I assume it's just the lip of the cover that is hitting the intake. If you want to double stack gaskets that's okay. However if I did that on the drivers side it makes the cover too tall and hits the brake booster.

    Idling 340 w/o Valve Cover?

If you are not goosing the motor too much it's not bad.

Motor stalls when put into gear

You are still way too lean. How much cam are you running. What do you have the outer carbs jetted at. What do you have the center carb jetted at. Google the book Larry Shepard building six pack motors. Example I have a 340 motor with 550 lift solid lifter can. 3500 stall in a 904. I have the...

    Not So Good Vibrations

Check your trans mount as well. If broken or using anything else but a rubber Mount, this can be the culprit.

    Engine "Tick"

I agree one of the lifters. They are hydraulic, on a 318'which means they pump up with oil. That's why sometimes the noise goes away when the engine warms up ie. The oil warms up and flows easier. Now, with lifters with 115,000 miles on them and I assume a lot of age, the lifters or just one...

    Help with valve covers

I run the mopar polished aluminum valve covers. Same as yours. I also run the six pack intake. On the drivers side I had to notch the cover. Notching the cover I think is a better idea than notching the intake. I use mopars gaskets that are rubber with steel core. Put the covers on with out the...

    Spark plug gap with msd

I am running a msd 6 al box. I have been gapping the plugs at .050. This seems to be the max gap that the tip of the plug can be massaged to. I run champion 404 's . I have tried to gap to .060 , even with my special " gapping" tool, the tip can't retain the squareness to the electrode. I also...

340 dog out of the hole/no low end torque??

You will have to put a degree wheel on the crankshaft. You will measure valve lift before and after tdc. The directions are in mopar book and on the degree wheel.Your cam specs say 106 centerline. Let's say your timiing gear had key marks in two degree increments. This is your you adjust cam...

340 dog out of the hole/no low end torque??

I agree with Robbie. My first thought was cam timing. Sounds to be way retarded. If the timing set had several key always to choose from and the cam wasn't degreed to verify. This would also cause Vaccum loss. I'm running very similar cam ans I am pulling 15 pounds of vac. Degree the cam again...
