Ok so I think you just hit the nail on the head!! I do have a tach and likely the green wire goes there and not into the ignition as I had assumed... So, I think I will jump the wire from the ECU to the - side of the coil (as in the diagram). If I don't set myself on fire I will post results...

Don't worry I have thick skin! Lol I assure you the wiring was not done by me. Not sure where in it's life it was done but considering the car was originally a blue /6 I would guess there have been some creative mods! Oh and as for the under dash wiring it is far worse!

Ok so I don't think I am getting any spark at all right now! Pulled a plug and grounded it while cranking over and no spark. Tried another plug wire or 2 just to be certain. Checked the out put at the coil...with the ignitin in the run position how many volts should I be getting? Currently...

It's an Edelbrock. I have put the hose back on I just wasn't sure of it's purpose but I assumed it was for an advance.

Ok so on closer inspection I realize the entire distributor is turning...the retainer plate must have been loose.so in a nut shell I am pretty sure I buggered up the timing! Oh and by the way it does have an electronic ignition...so if I can't get the motor to start how do I set the timing...

Well 6 and 8 were reversed! So I swapped them and voila....it doesn't run at all!!! Piss me off..... I must have knocked something loose at the cap, but I'm pretty sure it's flooded so I will wait to fight with it tomorrow night. I only had a few short minutes to fight with it. What seems odd...

If someone can confirm Badsport's diagram I would greatly appreciate it!! According to that diagram, I think the PO reversed 6 and 8. IIRC I am pretty sure it was the centre (closest to firewall) on the cap going to the #8 cylinder. Also it might make sense since both 6 and 8 were considerably...

oh and how does the numbering system work on the 340? Which cylinder is number 1, 2 etc?

I did switch out a wire but I switched it both at the plug and at the distributor. If I swap it with another position on the distributor (putting it out of time) would I be able to properly tell if it is actually firing?

Installed the sending unit tonight and fired it up....looks yo have fixed it! I only had time to run it for a minute and didnt even have time to get the rpm's up but definitely better than it was!!

Mine was definitely leaking from that area and only when running. There may be other leaks as well but the worst of it was from there. The leak was VERY obvious once i traced it up to that are beside the Distributor. I am hoping to grab it and install it tomorrow night if all goes well. I...

Are there universal fit replacements that I could grab? PartsSource searches by vehicle model to drill down to the part rather than the other way around. I know I can get one from YearOne but then I have to wait for it to ship etc. Dennis

I checked 2 local parts stores and they don't carry the sender anymore. :( S/B 340 which I believe is a 1970 but not sure since the engine is not original to the car.

That would make sense. I suspect that the car this motor was out of had the ralleye dash and since this car only has the idiot light he just capped it off (not very well!) I will start searching Ebay I guess although it appears YearOne sells them for 10 bucks. Just not sure about fitment yet...

hmmmm.....well I got the distributor out of the way and had a look at where the leak is coming from and it definitely appears to be where the sending unit should be. I say should be because in the threaded hole there was a 2 piece thing but was not the sender. I'm not sure how to describe it but...
