Found my dads original 1971 duster!

As I recall, the later cop car Diplomats or something had an adapter, but the angle of the filter was different. Seems like they wouldn't work, but maybe it was just that had to be rotated different. I've never installed one, so not saying I am right. Just seems like I have heard something...

I wonder if the 90 degree adapter needs to be removed to get it orientated correctly and it can't just be rotated. There is a different adapter that doesn't fit (as I recall), but I think it is aluminum. If yours is iron, it should be correct.

If anything, 50 years ago or so I would expect someone would have been removing the booster, not adding it. The OP's Dad doesn't strike me as someone that did more than drive it, so it would have had to have been prior to that. At the same time, no idea why it wouldn't have been on the fender...

Found my dads original 1971 duster!

On my '74 Duster 360, power disk brakes were standard. Looks like that isn't the case with a '71 Duster 340 though. But based on your earlier pictures, the booster was there and I highly doubt someone went to the effort to add it. Also, if it has disk brakes (can't tell from your pictures)...

Better but still hard to read. Seems like the website sometimes will allow you to click on the picture and it will expand, but it isn't working for me on this one. So the pictures of the board are all pretty small. If not typing it out again, maybe a close up of each section while square to...

Very nice, I like it! Can't read your board though. Could you put it all in a post?

To be clear, it’s not the pump that has to be tuned, it is the carburetor. I just doubt that an out of the box Carter is going to flow fuel correctly for your motor, but I will admit that tuning a carburetor is not my thing.

Sorry, I missed that. So the engine builder might have tuned the Carter to the motor when he dyno’ed it then? That would be a bonus in my mind if he did.

Based on your pictures in post #54, looks like the stock cast iron intake. No carb on the motor in those pictures, but a ‘71would have come with an oddball one year only Thermoquad. I love Thermoquads, but if it were me I would look for a ‘72 TQ and leave the ‘71 on the shelf (if you have it)...

Found my dads original 1971 duster!

On some motors, they are side specific. The GenIII Hemi is one, they are machined for a certain side. But on the LA motor like yours, the heads can go on either side. The intake then blocks the rear coolant ports in the intake face of the cylinder head so coolant only flows out the ports on...

Found my dads original 1971 duster!

I wonder if the head was a deflective casting and came from the factory like that. If it was on the PS of the block originally maybe it wasn't much of an issue. But if it was swapped to the DS during the rebuild, maybe the restricted coolant flow became a problem where it wasn't before...

Found my dads original 1971 duster!

I guess that makes some sense. He bought it because of an emotional attachment and the "idea" that he wanted to fix it and drive himself, so not something he would just give up on and flip. And the "I am going to part it out" was just his way to put you off so you stopped asking.

Even Blu says get a Ralley frame to go with the IP. That's what I've done, but nowhere near ready to make the swap. Here is his thread: https://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/threads/my-new-74-duster-or-why-i-need-a-project-like-a-hole-in-the-head.198098/ He get's into the Ralley swap really...

I only know of one situation where the tunnel was claimed to not have to be cut, and he moved the motor forward. So I would say yes, the tunnel will need to be cut. Something to know about the torsion bar suspension is that there is a crossmember over the top of the transmission that supports...

If you have a good 340, it would be cool to keep it. One other place verify it is a 340 is on the DS of the block just below the cylinder head. There should be a part number cast into the block with -340- at the end. Maybe modernize it like @racerjoe did with his stroker LA with full EFI. He...

Sound German Automotive is the only one I know of. https://www.soundgermanautomotive.com/pcs/ Edit - and the 8HP bellhousing pattern matches the SB block, minus one missing hole. Pretty sure there is a conversion flexplate required, but nothing needed to get it bolts to the back of the motor.

I think you nailed the real thought behind pro-touring there. At least what I think it is. Drivability and safety. It's about making the car drive and work better than it did with the goal to equal (or exceed) that of a new car (within reason). And for me, that isn't just the suspension or...

Just be aware that it is starting to feel like a G3 swap is like an LS swap. Done for a reason, but loses the unique side to a build. Not stopping me though, I am putting a 5.7 and T56 in a '73. The k-frame supports the lower control arms and the motor. In '73 they changed the motor mounts...

Seems like there are 2 different routes a "fun" build can take; straight line or curves. I don't think they have to be mutually exclusive, but they do have some foundational differences. This isn't to say a stock type rebuild and cruising isn't a "fun" build, only that it seems to me that when...

Welcome from the other side of the state. I'm actually in Davenport, but list Spokane because it is the "big" city closest to me. No argument, but a car that makes noise is easier to be excited about. Trick is being able to control yourself and not take it around the block first time you get...

    Hello All

Missed this until now. I'm just west of Spokane in Davenport. Sounds like we are getting enough people in the area on this forum it might be time to put together a meet. Like to see some pictures of your car, curious to see if I've seen it before. What's the history?
