Use a table ban saw to hack off the 340 piston crown .

OP is keeping awfully quiet :poke:Probably enjoying the results of a successful trolling. :p I will have to visit the smallblock forum more often, we rarely get entertaining threads like this in the bigblock forum...

    SBM "MagnaVelocity" mushroom camshaft.

If you read the DC (MP) Engine book, it's actually referred to as back-spotfacing, as I said. The spot-facing is on the underside of the lifter bore. That cannot be done with a conventional spot-facing tool - there is no room to come straight in from underneath. So the .904 arbor is passed...

    SBM "MagnaVelocity" mushroom camshaft.

I didn't have to touch mine, there was over .250 clearance at max lift. There are a number of threads on the Mini-Express over the years in various forums, and every one said they didn't have to back-spotface the lifter bores either...

    SBM "MagnaVelocity" mushroom camshaft.

My 1982 Direct Connection catalog says, "Comes very close to roller cam performance at about half the cost". For what I spent on my setup that's about right - it was cost effective for me in terms of power per dollar! As already pointed out, the history of the mushroom lifter in Mopar engines is...

    SBM "MagnaVelocity" mushroom camshaft.

I don't usually hang out in the smallblock forum ;) so I just came across this thread. Back in 2019 or 2020, I had Schneider regrind my (B/RB) Mini-Express because some of the lifters weren't turning. They saved the lobe profile in their library and said they could make them on request. It does...

    Streetmaster to Airgap

Tonight was quiet with nothing much on TV... so I read all 313 (so far) posts in this thread. I think I lost a few neurons doing so. Mods, why haven't you locked this ****-show 100 posts ago? :realcrazy:

Lunati Cam - Advance ground in ?

I agree... and it's already been said several times. Just degree the damn thing! Try the standard one period and one space after the period :poke: *keyboard *heroes

Rmoore isn't yelling! He just doesn't know about PERIODS! This kind I mean, (.) !!!!!

Is there an echo in here? Shoulda, coulda, woulda... three most useless words in English!

Lunati Cam - Advance ground in ?

... this is why you always degree the cam, regardless of what someone said on the phone! Don't just line it up dot to dot.

Puller electric fan with 4 core radiator?

I have a similar setup ("no-name" 3 row, Contour fans and an Autocoolguy PWM controller), except I have a 451. It's tight but I trimmed the plastic on the fan a little. I can sit still in 93F weather and the engine won't get over 185F :)

Super bummed. New motor. Bad bearings?

Chrome look... like cam lobes? :( You already know the mains got trash in them. Rods may not be any better. As already said, it should all come apart for cleaning and inspection.

difference between narrow and wide band A/F Gauges

I disagree with this. The narrowband sensor basically can tell you if you're richer or leaner than 14.7. And that's it. The voltage switches so rapidly around the 14.7 point that they're inaccurate more than a few tenths either side. My Autometer 3579 is not the greatest design (it won't work...

    Rough idle

It's interesting that one cylinder is 15 psi below the others, and it may indeed be weaker. But have you tried the same 40 psi air test on one of the other cylinders? Rings are never a 100% perfect seal because they have end gaps, so I'd expect to hear some hissing air, even if a small amount.

    Aftermarket gauges

Before I got a PWM fan controller that expects the sensor in the bottom hose instead, I made one out of a piece of chrome bathroom sink pipe :D

    My engine block is home...

I was referring to every receipt, not just the engine ;) I started with a bare 400 block and a 440 crank acquired in '97 or so, but didn't buy the stripped, multicolored rolling shell until '06 (I think). Anyway I have them all, but will never add them up either :)

    My engine block is home...

I learned a long time ago never to add up the receipts  I added up the parts I'd need to build my Dart back in the late 80's, so I didn't start until the late 90's instead.:p

Large RPM and Vacuum drop when shifting from park to gear

Are you sure you have located TDC accurately and can actually check where your timing is? Best idle is likely way too advanced unless you have already shortened the mechanical advance curve in the distributor. Sorry if this has been already covered in the thread ;) But to answer the question...

Large RPM and Vacuum drop when shifting from park to gear

I use my tongue to block off the hose in between sucks. Yes, I know how that sounds. I'd like a vacuum can that is fully advanced at 8" Hg. since that is all my engine can muster at 1200 rpm idle. I think FBO (Don) can make one, but I don't think there is an off-the-shelf unit that...

    80/20 Rule

No idea what the 516's flow, but I'd be surprised if they make 250 cfm. For the Speedmasters, here are the numbers from Dwayne. OOTB: Lift——-in/ex .100— 67.5/53.5 .200—137.2/101.2 .300—202.8/138.3 .400—241.2/160.3 .500—256.1/171.2 .550—262.5/174.4 .600—269.2/176.9 .650—269.2/178.1...

    80/20 Rule

Exactly. I put my 451 together with mildly massaged 516 heads (larger exhaust valves, hardened seats, bowl blend) because I had them and wanted to get the car on the road. Despite the poor match to the [email protected] cam. Low end isn't much (not surprisingly) with a 2.66 four-speed and 3.91 gears. So...

    80/20 Rule

I always go by the 90/90 rule: The first 90% of the project consumes 90% of the budget and time. The final 10% consumes the other 90% of the budget and time :p

    SPEEDMASTER ALUMINUM HEADS

The exhaust is the second number in each column (note the heading "in/ex") :p I don't know how the SB heads flow... I just meant that the improvement from a bowl blend/port match would probably be similar. Unless you run one of those square-lobed "cheater"-type cams which beat the crap out of...
