How much trouble am I in?

I had something similar like 25 years ago. Had a neighbor who worked in the transformer industry. He knew all about oil. My oil was milky too. He told me he could tell there was like a tablespoon of water in the oil. That’s all it takes. I say change the oil and see if it does it again. I think...

I think so, but that question made me feel old too lol.

    Strip Dominator and M1

I think the strip dominator was on the market from Holley well before the M1. I always thought the m1 was a clone or refinement of the strip. I bought a w2 Strip dominator in the late 80,s when it and the dual tunnel ram were the only good intake for those heads back then. Kind of like the w5...

    My 422 smallblock build

I tap this for a 1/2 pipe plug. Test fit the plug to see its position when tight. On the outside of the plug scribe a line that’s inline with the number one oil passage. Then I grind a notch on the opposite side of the scribed line. When you install the plug, the scribed line Will indicate to...

    Eagle Forged Stroker Crank CRACKED

At the time I built my motor, I decided on a scat forged, but I had seen many builds with eagle h beam rods. I recently saw a David Vizard video on you tube and he really praised the quality of Scat crankshafts comparing them with some of the biggest names in crankshafts. Someone on the forum...

    Eagle Forged Stroker Crank CRACKED

At the time I called arp, they directed me to eagle and told me it is not an off the shelf bolt. It is eagles design. I called directly to eagle for bolts. Perhaps they are available at JEGS and summit. I just wanted to share my experience and point out that eagle uses their own custom bolt just...

    Eagle Forged Stroker Crank CRACKED

If I can add a few pointers here without ruffling any feathers, I build my stroker small block a few years ago with a scat forged crank and eagle H beam rods. Eagle offers more than one horsepower rating for the same rods. I was hesitant to use Eagle as I had heard some stories about their...

    low oil pressure rebuilt 318

Ok but do you think it would be 25 pounds less? That seems excessive to me.

    low oil pressure rebuilt 318

Its the only thing that fits what he is saying. Normal pressure when priming. Inadequate with engine running. How can it be anything else but a slipping rounded off hex. If it's not that then I'm gonna learn something here lol.

    low oil pressure rebuilt 318

Not the drive gear, but the hex that engages the pump. They can round off.

    low oil pressure rebuilt 318

Do you still get 50 psi with a drill when priming and 25 when engine running, I am suspecting your distributor drive is damaged or broken.

Even the plug on the drivers side inside from the rear? I missed that one before.

In my experience, those .500 dowels are for a Chev, they would not fit in my block. The good old mopar performance ones that i used fit perfect and they measure at .497. Those dowels from mopar performance are in my treasured special parts drawer.

    R3W7 Assembly

I was never concerned with the gears getting oil. What I wS told was to bring oil to the cam thrust plate side. The outside has a needle bearing, but the other side has the thrust. I dremeled a small trough that gets oil from the drivers side oil galley plug .040 hole to the trough and directed...

Any one interested in the oiling mods I did?

If anyone is interested in doing Sanborns cooling mods, I had these custom Cometic head gaskets made, complete with part number That incorporate the changes to the gasket cooling holes that he recommended. The are at least a couple members who are using these apparently without issue.

Any one interested in the oiling mods I did?

If you recall we read an article that claims that rod bearings are oiled by centrifugal force of the spinning crank. That is how the rods get there pressure and feed. According to the article and to Sanborn, who also never used full groove mains, the mains fill up the drilled crank feed passage...

Not saying this is right or wrong, but after reading that lengthy article about rod bearings being oiled by centrifugal force, oil timing should not be that critical. Making sure the feed passages in the crank throws stay full seems more important. Sanborns explanation for the slots was to allow...

Maybe some rounding and blending in the slot to aid the turning of the oil.

Very nice. I am at a loss to explain why I see a counterbore similar to this on some factory blocks and not on others. I think this helps the rod oiling big time. May I ask how you determined which direction to elongate the slot. I went 1/4 inch by 1/2 long on my bearings as well for the same...

I did not have the luxury of a milling machine. I cut the threads in my block with a hand drill and hand tools. You need some serious leverage to turn a standard 1/2 inch pipe tap by hand. I agree you need a cut off tap to get the threads right in a shallow hole. You appear to have a machining...

Any one interested in the oiling mods I did?

I think he is talking about the oil filter bolt hole. It has a chamfer where you could use an O ring, but that thread is not npt. You have to make up a custom length bolt to put in that hole when going external. The length and thread of that bolt and the entire mod is in the old engine book, you...

Just make sure they are steel, not aluminum. I understand your hesitation on external lines, but they may even solve header issues For you.

I followed Sanborns recommendations so they are 1/2 inch galley with 1/2 pipe threads. I got the fittings at my local dirt track supply Bicknell Racing. They are 1/2 inch pipe to 12an and they are steel So you can get them out again. Bicknell racing has a store in the US as well as Canada.
