    DIY Alignment Turn Plates

I originally welded a stud on the lower plate and drilled a hole in the upper. As RRR mentioned, my original design didn't work well because the tires could not slide outward when lowered onto the plate. I simply ground down the stud and sprayed both plates with graphite. Things worked well...

    Drill bits

That's a nice looking complete drill bit set. I like that individual bits can be purchased for replacement.

    Built me a new tool

Great looking engine/ tranny dolly. I will be working on disassembling my brothers 1967 Cuda notch later this year. I might "steal" your plans for the dolly when I get closer to engine removal. Thanks for posting.

DIY Drill Press Vise Mounting Table

Bought a drill press vise several weeks back. Unfortunately, the mounting points on the vise and on my drill table really limited its application. I decided to fabricate a sliding and rotating table mount that could be removed from the drill press if I needed the press for other applications. I...

    DIY Alignment Turn Plates

Hi Rob. Sorry for the late reply. This month has been crazy busy. I drove the car last Sat and Sunday. She drives OK. I think that I need to adjust for more + caster. Also, the steering wheel is at 11 o'clock instead of 12. I went to start her up Friday night and she wont crank. Lights and...

    New Old Drill Press Purchase

Decided to put a variable speed control on the press mostly for slower speeds. I used a Harbor Freight control for a router that I had for my buffer. I fabricated a mounting plate and used Velcro to mount it. It gives me the ability to remove it and use it on another tool if necessary.

    New Old Drill Press Purchase

I've seen on YouTube where folks have taken treadmill motors and used them to make the press variable speed. Looks easy to do.

    New Old Drill Press Purchase

I don't have a bead blaster but I spent time with my angle grinder and wire wheels to clean the rust off of the support tube. Looks and slides much better.

    New Old Drill Press Purchase

I've been slowly getting my downstairs work shop cobbled together. I've never owned a drill press and I thought that I would look around for one for the shop. After searching my local Marketplace, I stumbled upon the vintage Craftsman 150 floor press about 10 miles from my home. I checked out...

    DIY Alignment Turn Plates

Took her for a drive around the block. Unfortunately, the tranny isn't upshifting correctly. The guy who rebuilt the tranny is going to pick up the car and make things right. The car seemed to track pretty nicely but we weren't moving very fast.

    DIY Alignment Turn Plates

My plates worked well for aligning my car after I followed Rob's advice and cut out the central pivot point. I jacked the car up off the plates to make my control arm adjustments. I then positioned the top plate about an inch inward from the lower plate. This allowed the plates to slide outward...

    New Old Bottle Jack

I got tired of my HF 20 ton bottle jack leaking like a sieve on my shop press. I've been on the lookout for a gold old made in the USA bottle jack to replace it. I've been sporadically checking out the local Craigslist for some time. I happened to see this oldie but goodie located very close to...

    welding sheet metal.

Make sure that you have a good ground to you project. I trashed the ground clamp on my Miller and bought a heavy duty brass clamp. I highly recommend looking at the videos on this site: Welding Tips and Tricks - TIG, MIG, Stick and a pantload of other info

    Mig welder questions

I purchased a Millermatic 211 for auto work and I love it. I'm not a professional.....just an enthusiast. I wanted to learn how to weld for many years and finally signed up for an evening welding class at out local Career Technical Center. I would recommend looking into something like that if...

Looking to get a welder for the house

I have my choice narrowed down to either a Miller 211 or a Lincoln 180 Dual. Lincoln has a $100 rebate now which means I can get one for $835 locally. The Miller 211 is selling for $1200. Any thoughts?

Looking to get a welder for the house

That looks like a good price for the Hobart Handler 210. It has an infinite wire feed speed but 7 output settings. Is there a disadvantage to having voltage presets versus variable voltage settings?

Torque Wrench - what to buy

I agree. I got three sizes of torque wrenches for $40 + tax. Kinda hard to beat that.

Torque Wrench - what to buy

I purchased Harbor Freight torque wrenches in 1/2, 3/8, and 1/4" with one of their regular $9.99 coupons that they list regularly. They may be cheap but the advertised tolerances wer as good as more expensive wrenches. Like mentioned before, just turn back the tension on the spring when you're...

    cheap engine stand upgrades

I got rid of that stubby little pipe used to rotate the unit and picked up a longer piece of pipe at Lowes. The extra leverage makes it a lot easier to turn the assembled engine.

I bought one a while back. I'm a novice welder, but I give it a thumbs up as well.

    torque wrench

Don't know if you have Harbor Freight in Canada. They frequently run $9.95 sales on their 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2" torque wrenches. Not the quality of a Snap-On but much better than guesstimating.

How I Made My Engine Dolly

Worked on my engine cradle today using krazykuda's design. All went as planned and seems to be working accordingly. This post was very timely for me.
