I took delivery of my newest firearm to add to my collection of misfits. It is a Ross .280 M10 Sporting rifle probably made around 1915. I thought that I would share some pics as most people have never even heard of the rifle let alone seen one. The rifle is very good shape. Some stock dings...

I've never owned a Ruger #1 but I am a big fan of single shot rifles. I just love the lines of a Mannlicher stocked rifle. You should get yourself another one.

I had my threesome of old girls out to the range yesterday. Top is a 1913 Simson & Suhl Commercial Mauser sporting rifle in 8mm (.318). Middle is my Mannlicher model 1905 made in 1920 in 6.5mm. Bottom is my 1910 Mannlicher made in 1913 in 9.5mm. The 6.5 gave me the best group that I have ever...

Hi gzig5. I'm well versed on the correct assembly of the M10 bolt but I thank you for your advice. I will inspect the rifle when it arrives to make sure that it is assembled correctly. I might be able to have a range day on Monday.

I plan on doing on keeping her as a survivor. I will tear her apart and maximize her appearance. I don't want her to look brand new. It's much more fun to keep some of the patina, especially since I plan to take the rifle out in the woods. It's a cool piece of history. She has a built-in pop-up...

    Guns, Dogs and Blades QnA

Hi Folks. I pulled the trigger on another obsolete cartridge rifle last week. I'm hoping that I can pick it up on Saturday. The rifle is a Ross model 1910 straight pull sporting rifle in .280 Ross. This was the first cartridge to propel a 140-gr bullet at over 3,000 fps. This is the grand dad of...

I had my newest old toy out to the range yesterday. I was primarily checking out a couple different bullet diameters (.354 and .355) to see if she had a preference. It looks like she prefers .355 and 48 grains of IMR4064. This 3 shot group was done at 50 yards with a peep sight. I'm a happy...

I am familiar with the 721 recall. I elected to simply replace the trigger and safety with a Timney unit. The rifle now has a perfect 2 lb trigger pull without concern about accidental discharge.

I inherited my father's Remington 721 30-06 made around 1948. It is the only deer rifle that I own with a scope (Weaver K4). This rifle is from the time when Remington meant quality. The rifle is a tack driver with my reloads. The scope reticle is horrible to see except in daylight. I broke down...

It is an oddball, obsolete cartridge. Even obsolete cartridges need love. I won't have to worry about anybody stealing my ammo at deer camp.

Thanks Sublime. I have some 3031 that was given to me, but I haven't been impressed with its performance on any load that I tried to develop. It is a powder that you can substitute grain for grain Cordite of yesteryear.

Peeps sight for Mannlichers are hard to find. The split receiver makes it difficult to mount any peep on the receiver. Lyman made a model 56 aperture sight that springs back as the bolt hits it. When one can find them, be prepared to pay almost $600. I scrounged through my spare parts and...

The rounds that I shot yesterday were 46 grains of 4046. Load data for the 9x56 is not very abundant. I have some load info from old reloading manuals. Powder choices include 3031, 4895, and 4350. That 6.6 lb rifle packs a pretty good wallup! I made the bolt shroud peep sight for the rifle. I...

Heading to the range tomorrow to waste some lead and sight in my newest/ old toy. I think that this rifle will be my companion for deer hunting this year. This old girl has a 17 1/2" barrel which makes it light and perfect for busting through the PA brush. I'm working up an accurate load for...

I love the fact that cartridges like 45-70 and 45 Colt are still going stong after all these years. I cast bullets for all my handguns and my 1885. That rifle is amazingly accurate with 405 gr. slugs. I am a traditionalist in that I don't have a scope on any of my rifles. I love my peep sight!

I think that wrenching on cars and shooting go together like peanut butter and jelly. I especially enjoy the reloading aspect to optimize accuracy. I am not an AR rifle kind of guy. Most of my firearms are for hunting purposes. My tastes are more old school. 1. .45 cal. Pennsylvania long rifle...

    Arrogant Doctors

I'm sorry that your physician treated you that way. I'm a physician and I do my best to try and run within 15-20 min of a patient's scheduled appointment. I admit that sometimes I fall behind because a patient needs extra time for additional probems but I do my best to give them time for...

Respectfully request advice as newly divorced dad

I'm so sorry to hear about your situation. I've was there years ago with my three children. We can all give you advice on FABO, but it really doesn't mean anything until you speak to an attorney with a good reputation. Laws vary from state to state. Only a local attorney will know the nuances of...
