    Building a Dirt Track Car

I would view those J-bars as part of the roll cage along with a front loop for the radiator. You need to look at other cars to see how far they've gone. As far as lap times, I don't recall it was 20 years ago now. I'll look in the garage and see if the book is still around.

    Building a Dirt Track Car

Once you get the guts out of the body I don't think it will be very stiff. And if you welding a cage why not do frame connectors? I don't follow on the J-bar(?)..not do I understand what they don't want you to brace..you'll have to have something to hold the body skins. As far as shifting, no...

    Building a Dirt Track Car

Horsepower won't do you any good if the chassis is not hooking, and gearing is gonna have a lot to do with the equation also. We were running a .010 over 350,(GM, sorry) restricted to a 2 bbl carb, roller rockers, and headers. Don't know how much horse we were making but I'll bet it wasn't over...

    Building a Dirt Track Car

Pretty open on the rules. I would probably look for a used car and use you body skin if you want the dart body. I built one in '95 and found out I was constantly rebuilding and adding to as we observed and found out what others were doing. Rules allow a late model tube chassis, and it states...

Where are you moving to in PA? I know there are a few hill climbs around but only know one by name and thats Giants Despair in Wilkes-Barre Twp...there used to be one near Hazleton on the St Johns Mountain road but I don't think that one is any longer. It looks like fun to run, I've done Gaints...

    Car Trailer Tires

I have Tow Master Radials on my car trailer, 205/75R14. This is the second set on the trailer. I replaced the original 1994 set in 2006 and because of side wall cracking not tread wear. I towed our racecar three seasons, used it as a utility trailer, towed a friends 57 Massey a dozen times, and...

    ticking like a sewing machine

You didn't buy that Duster in Central Pa by any chance did you? I know a guy that sold one around November and the discription/BS sounds familiar. Two good points already brought up, you need to track down the tick a little tighter. Pull the valve covers and look for loose rockers, if you...

    1970 Dart- Lexan Glass

Before you buy lexan at Lowes...check with any local sign shops in your area, they can buy lexan and sell it to you alot cheaper then Lowes does...the only drawback would be you have to buy it in 4 x 8 ft pieces typically. They also may have cutoffs from other projects.

i would like info on dirt track racing

We have a dirt track at the end of town, they have roadrunners which are your stock body cars but they limit you to, I think, 78 & newer and they're pretty much knock out the windows, put a cage in and go racing. We ran the thunder car class which were stock bodied, on stock frames, but you...

    Early A weight

I'll take a guess....the base weight I read somewhere on a 6cyl was 2800lbs. So if we add 150 for the 273 we got 2950. Take out the seat, tank, heater, lets say -100, 2850. Add for the steel probably, 150lbs., figuring 1 1/2" by 095Fuel cell is a trade off for the tank, so I'd guess right at...

Completely Stock slant six Duster at the track!

I went to the local drags Friday for Flashback Friday..lots of nice B's with Hemi's and Wedges, some nice A's as well...there was a young fella there, just turned 16 with a gold Duster with a stock 360, dialed in at 14.6(?) and with his spot against the bigger cars was cleaning up. I've been...

    lexan windows

Lexan is actually plastic. It is worked, cut filed, sanded, easily with woodworking tools, best when warm. You can get it to pretty much whatever shape your going for, meaning you can bend or contour by selectively applying heat. For qtr windows you don't need much if any contour though. use...
