    Ignition or Fuel?

Hey Duane, I been a little busy so I haven't worked through all the other suggestions that were posted earlier. I will certainly give your idea a try. Right now the coil is mounted in the stock location close to center on the fire wall and the ignition box is mounted on the driver's side...

    Ignition or Fuel?

How about a lack of fuel pressure? Would that cause plugs to be uneven? Just a thought as I was working on her a little this evening and found the new fuel filter wouldn't stay full.

    Ignition or Fuel?

My oil leak problem before came from the lifter/cam valley. If that is where it is sucking air I wouldn't expect spraying around the outside of the intake mating surfaces to yield much results. But I will give it a try.

    Ignition or Fuel?

I am not doubting you at all moper, so don't take my questioning the wrong way. Would a simple tuning issue cause the plugs to be so uneven?

    Ignition or Fuel?

I am running a 4 speed so I set the idle up around a 1,000, right or wrong. There is vacuum at the port, but I don't own a vacuum guage at this point to give you a value. It certainly doesn't seem overly strong. Thanks for sticking with me here.

    Ignition or Fuel?

The carb was a street strip build by Demon Sizzler. I would have to check on the model, but if I remember right it is a 1972. The vacuum is hooked in to the ported side I believe (front left next to PCV in center) Initial timing is set at 16 with total in at 33 by 2800. I will double check...

    Ignition or Fuel?

Another issue I did'nt think to mention is that whenever I hook the vacuum advance up on the distributor it stalls the engine out very quickly.

    Ignition or Fuel?

No, I have triple checked the plug wires. Thanks anyway. Its easy to overlook the obvious sometimes.

    Ignition or Fuel?

Here is a few pictures of my spark plugs. The top row is from the right bank and the front of the engine starts on the left side of the box. The next image with four plugs is #5-8. The last two images are from the blackest one, #6. Thanks for your help. I have change out at least three...

    Ignition or Fuel?

That's the thing. If the plugs were oil fouled wouldn't they be kind of moist and sooty? They are new plugs and have only been in for the new cam's break-in period.

    Ignition or Fuel?

Well that part of the puzling thing. The bolt holes line up perfectly. You can start the bolts easily by hand. I bought the short block from a machine shop (not my best decision) and they can't tell me how much was taken off the heads to zero deck the pistons. Since the intake bolt holes...

    Ignition or Fuel?

I had fought an intake gasket leak before, and I am not sure that it is cured. I had problems getting the port surface between the head and the intake to seal. The first intake I had for this new motor was brand new, but it had a high spot in the port surface and it wasn't square from front to...

    Ignition or Fuel?

I did not put ends on the plug wires. They were a pre-made set. I checked the rotor cap for burn marks on the plastic of the cap and I did not see any off of the contacts for each cylinder. So from that I guess the phasing isn't too far off. I will have to recheck the clearance on the...

    Ignition or Fuel?

The wires are all brand new Taylor 8mm. It pops in neutral and when in gear and driving. It actually seems to clear up some above 3,000 rpm when you get on it, but it never totally goes away. Thanks for taking the time to help me out. I will check the rotor cap for marks of it being out of...

    Ignition or Fuel?

I've been having a fair share of issues with a new 408 build in my Dart. There is a miss and pop out of the exhaust starting at around 1800 RPM and continues up around 3200 and tapers off some. I pull the spark plugs and find that plugs 1-2 look like brand new, 3-4 have a little carbon on them...

    Intake Oil Leak

Thanks for your assistance. I will try it out when I get a chance. For now it's time to make hay while the sun shines (literally). Then I'm gone for a week with our youth group. I'll let you know how I make out once I try this. Thanks again.

    Intake Oil Leak

This is a brand new M1 intake. I do have the original cast 340 intake sitting here I could try. Are you saying to get an imprint of both intakes and then compare?

    Intake Oil Leak

Pulled the intake off again. Thought maybe a wiped a couple lobes on the cam because plugs 5 and 6 were fouled. Just the same oil leak again sucking in to the ports. Can't quite figure this out. I have used Fel-Pro and Mopar's gasket kit with silicone on the end rails Oil is soaked half way...

Plugs #5 and #6 Carbon Fouled

I have a 600cfm Edelbrock that came off the 340 that used to sit under the hood. Do you think it has to be on the fuel side and not the ignition?

I am running a brand new MP electronic conversion kit. That must be the difference. I'll keep digging. Thanks for the help though.

    Intake Oil Leak

Mullinax95- I have been dealing with a miss since putting this motor together. At first I had an oil leak on he base gasket of the intake on the back side. I resealed that and then the front base gasket started leaking so I tore it back apart. Both times I saw where the port side gaskets were...

Plugs #5 and #6 Carbon Fouled

Are you sure you took the ground from the heads up to the negative terminal on the coil? When I tried that it killed the motor.

    Intake Oil Leak

After pulling the intake back off I put a straight edge down the port surfaces and found a high spot on the front left corner. My machine shop had to remove .012 to correct it. Everything seems sealed now as far as oil leaks. Still fighting a miss though.

Plugs #5 and #6 Carbon Fouled

I am looking for help with a problem I am having with a new build. This spring I have been working through the gremlins of a 408 stroker that I put together. It has a miss that I can not track down. I have readjusted the valves and gone through the ignition system. Everything is new on this...

    Intake Oil Leak

I'm looking for some help with a problem on my new 408. The intake refuses to seal along the port face of the heads. When I take the intake off there is oil half way up the ports. I am running Eddy heads and a M1 single plane intake. I had bought the short block and assembled it from there...
