    finding a 8 1/4 sure grip

You've got to be careful about the axle you plan to install the suregrip in. If the original axle ratio is 2:45, (many A bodies were), no other ratios will fit as the housing is unique.

8 1/4 rear axle with sbp?

Nope. No 8 1/4 before 73 and all are BBP.I've had my eyes play tricks on me when looking under the car, sometimes a 7 1/4 can look like the 8 1/4 on just a casual glance. Best check is count the bolts all the way around. 10 bolts on an 8 1/4 and 9 on a 7 1/4.

    Marine for sure. SAE pattern?

    4.7L bellhousing bolt pattern

I've never had one, but I have friends who do and they claim the gas mileage is fantastic. Some links for info and the claim is that the bellhousing is similar. <LI itxtvisited="1">A/LA/Modern Hemi Pattern - 1950s-1967 Semi-hemi A-series 241, 260, 270, Plymouth A-series 277, 301, 303, 313...

    Scamp intrepid cross over issues

225 hp, that's what for! Ever driven an Intrepid? Not a bad performer and pretty good on fuel as well. I think the 3.5 has a RWD trans as used in the 300C and similar. Would be an interesting swap.

    j body 8 1/4

Can"t vouch for the accuracy, but here's my source http://www.carnut.com/specs/frear.html

    j body 8 1/4

FMJ body diffs are all the same width, 58.54" which is slightly narrower than the popular '65 thru '70 B body diff swap at 59.2". '67 and up A bodies track slightly narrower in the back than in the front. I believe it is about 2 or 3", so the wider FMJ diff is actually closer than the OE diff...

Manual trans swap - 5 speed

The 5 speed Dakota trans is an Aisin AX5. Gear ratios will be a little steep for car use. This is where the infamous Turbo Toyota Supra transmission comes in. Also an Aisin transmission, (R154), it has a more favourable gear ratio and shares the mounting pattern with the AX5. Therefore, it will...

explorer 8.8 in an a-body: experience needed

8 3/4 vs. anything else yet again. 8 3/4 is the best diff available from Mopar for your car. Taking it out may seem to be a downgrade and possibly a loss of value for your car. If you do trade it out, keep the 8 3/4 for the next owner. However...... The 8.8 Ford is plenty strong. The...

    2 speed rearends

Thats a pretty interesting idea. That model 100 might make for some pretty strange driveshaft geometry. Found a nice set of pictures of a model 300 here; http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=412622

    8 1/4 or 8 3/4 rear end in my Duster 340?

Sure would like to see this sales brochure that mentions the 8 3/4 in '73. Parted a '73 340 4 spd Dart years ago and the rear was an 8 1/4. All Chrysler literature that I've seen says the 8 1/4 replaced the 8 3/4 in '73 A bodies. As such, it was the heavy duty rear end in '73 and later. As...

    A Body 8.75 housing/axles dont match

There's the 2nd worst bit of Mopar info out there! Cosgig, of course is correct. I'd have to guess the original problem here is your axle seller sold you axles out of a B body housing that was stuffed under an A body. This is a popular swap even though the B body housing is a couple inches...

    8 1/4 vs 8 3/4???

From the factory, '72 and earlier, 8 3/4 SBP. '73 and later, 8 1/4 BBP. Mileage and performance would be a function of the gearing. I doubt there would be a significant difference for any other reason.

dakota 5 speed in an A body

Thought I'd add some info regarding the power handling capacity of these ricer transmissions. http://forum.uza70.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=47 Also some info on ratios and applications of the Aisin Warner transmissions. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_W_transmission...

B body axle in A body?

Thanks for all the quick replies and especially the pics, Thanks '74 Sport. I had a fast look under my absolutely stock setup, P205/70 14 tires right down to factory hubcaps and I think my results would look exactly like your pics. I measure 1 1/2" clearance to the springs and 2 1/2" to the...

B body axle in A body?

Ok, it's time to lose the 7 1/4 under my Cuda. Also changing to bbp disk brakes and V8 K-member from a 74 Dart. I may use the Dart rear diff for now just to match the bolt patterns, but it's another 7 1/4. I'm aware of the option of the B body 8 3/4. I've even read that it fills the wheelwells...
