    magnum cracked heads

To my knowledge the cracks are generally harmless. I'm sure there are exceptions. My thought is not to repair them. Run them or replace them with aftermarket heads. I suspect a repair would not last. Just my guess, not from experience. Others will chime in.

Very nice work. The v band exhaust is interesting. Can you talk a little about that?

    Luck is on my side

For the sake of anyone planning to try this, the diagram should be clearly labelled, MAGNUM, or LA. Also, the angle on the drill point should be specified in order for it to be accurate.

5.9 Magnum flywheel - DIY with bolt-on weight??

very interesting. We had quite a few folks searching for that spec on the other forum and nobody ever came up with it. Hence the rigmarole. Where were you back then? #-o:D

You get the credit for this one. Hopefully the math holds up.

5.9 Magnum flywheel - DIY with bolt-on weight??

I used the method in the link above to draw a parallelogram with 3 vectors, one for each hole in the flywheel. I set the center vector at 100 mm. The two other vectors came out to 63 mm and 64 mm so I used .635. Here's the calculation. Total weight = 4.65 oz. 4.65/3 = 1.55 oz per hole. The...

5.9 Magnum flywheel - DIY with bolt-on weight??

Perhaps. But I think not. I believe the combined weight removed will act at the center of the area from which it was removed as if it were removed from one large hole at that point. I could be wrong. We need a physics major. Edit: Been a while since I did physics but after posting the above...

    833+magnum?

You can run the 833 but will need a bellhousing, clutch, pedals etc. The flywheel is fairly spendy. Here's some info on that. http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/showthread.php?t=178065

Looking at a 5.9 Magnum engine..

If it were my engine, based on what I discovered I would bet that I got it right and I would use one. I might do a minor balance adjustment for peace of mind. That said, without having done it, I would not recommend it for you because of the possibility I got it wrong somehow. If you read the...

    Max lift/stock slugs

Been thinking about this as well in choosing a cam for my 5.9 build. I know aftermarket pistons that come up to deck height have valve reliefs. The stock pistons are down .050 and have no reliefs. I'm planning to do the clay test with one of my new IMM heads using the stock cam. I think I will...

    Done with Magnum Swap!

Joe, I've got the same build with RHS heads waiting to go. Mine will be a 4 spd, shortened .410 8.8. Yours was part of the inspiration, in fact through the pm grapevine some of your advice was passed along to me so thanks for that. Looking forward to see how this one performs. :coffee2:

    magnum bore wear???

My 5.9 had max .004 wear at about 80,000, well within rebuild tolerance. I think the wear has to do with fuel injection. I'll let others comment further. I'd only buy in advance if you're OK with re-selling if necessary. How much are you saving?

What? 'Nother 360 magnum on the dyno?

Kinda sounds like a repeat of the "junkyard jewel" article which claims 448 hp using eddy heads. TQ was down a little at lower rpm (373 @ 3000, and peaked at 434 @ 5000). http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/engine/hrdp_0804_small_block_mopar_engine/viewall.html

What? 'Nother 360 magnum on the dyno?

The truth is I think like your quote above. I'll build it my way, and encourage others to do it their way. I'm really just inserting some humor, and giving respect to members who know far more than I and dislike the Thumpr. I do believe the Thumpr cams are a compromise of sorts, but not...

What? 'Nother 360 magnum on the dyno?

Interesting... recently finished up a shortened 8.8 with .410s for my Dart. I've got a junkyard 5.9 and a set of RHS heads waiting to go on. I'm hoping that combo will piss lotsa people off :D I have to admit I want the lopey idle... was considering a thumpr (oh the shame :angry7:) but tire...

Cracked Magnum Heads - Junk or Not?

Thanks, that's some very useful information. More than I came up with searching for info online. I'm not sure what you mean by that last sentence. Could you explain? If I were considering using them myself I'd do that. Not worth the bother and expense for what they will sell for.

Cracked Magnum Heads - Junk or Not?

My understanding is EQ and RHS are very similar. For me it comes down to getting a complete package with quality components and build. I'm planning to purchase from Brian at IMM. If I recall, the EQs are cast in your neck of the woods, correct? Not sure on RHS.

Cracked Magnum Heads - Junk or Not?

These came off a 5.9 Magnum that will be getting a set of RHS heads for my project. They are a reman head, mileage uncertain as I'm not sure when in the 78,000 mile life of the truck they were installed. With 2.0 reading glasses and a magnifying glass I was able to detect cracks between the...
