    4 Speed Reinstall From Underneath

I had a 65 Barracuda in my early 20's that someone had done a really nice job of cutting holes in the hump for access to both top bolts. They had made them the exact same size as the hole in a little later Mopar firewalls, where the clutch rod goes from the pedal to the Z bar. They even used the...

Can you ID this Mopar gearbox?

Pretty sure it's 26 splines on an A230.

Can you ID this Mopar gearbox?

I can't be of any help with the Inland shifter. I've never had one. Glad you've got it on the way!

Can you ID this Mopar gearbox?

Francois.....you'd better buy that thing before someone else does! Hopefully, it's close enough for you to make a road trip to get it!

Can you ID this Mopar gearbox?

If the one being sold with the 833 will line up your existing clutch linkage, I don’t see why you couldn’t use it. Here is a pic of a bellhousing that came with my 833 OD. The bolts are in the holes that line up with an 833. You can see the other 4 holes for a different transmission. The holes...

Can you ID this Mopar gearbox?

I guess I didn't say that very well....lol. I was talking about your current bellhousing. I do not know for certain if 70's slant 6 bellhousings have dual bolt patterns for an A230 and an 833. I do know that every 70's Mopar LA car bellhousing that I have ever seen had both bolt patterns. I have...

Can you ID this Mopar gearbox?

For those of you wondering, like I was 500 Euro's is $544.25.

Can you ID this Mopar gearbox?

Your driveshaft will work right back with no modifications and your existing slip yoke should work also. You may get lucky on your existing bellhousing, and it will have dual bolt patterns for 3 speed and 4 speed transmissions, if there actually is a difference in the bolt patterns of an A230...

Can you ID this Mopar gearbox?

Yes, it's an 833 four speed. It is quite possible that it is a 66-67 transmission that uses a slip yoke that is the same as a 904 automatic. 68 and up 833's used the same slip yoke as a 727 automatic. If it's for sale at a good price, you should get it. Hurst shifters will bolt right on and work...

    Where is the weak point

I don't see why it wouldn't. I've never taken one apart either, but will give it a go soon, for my own 65 Barracuda. I do know that there are 2 different A body tail shafts. Early (66-67) ones use a 904 size slip yoke and later ones use the 727 size slip yoke. @Dan Brewer can tell you each and...

    Where is the weak point

500 HP? I'd ditch the trunnion adapter and just find a regular slip yoke 4 speed.....preferably an 18 spline. The 23spline 833's are fine for a normal street car with moderate HP, but they do start balking at the HP levels you plan for. Reinforce the attachment points of your front...

    1972 4 speed trans

No numbers in the trunk lip of Dusters. Duster, Demon, Dart Sports had them stamped on top of the package tray instead.

    Early A bellhousing in 68 A body

I'll jump on the get a later bellhousing train also! You will be time and aggravation ahead. If you are able to find one locally, I would suggest loading up your 833 and taking it with you to make sure the front bearing retainer hole is the right size. It needs to just be able to slide in and...

Changing a floor 4 speed shifter to a 4 speed console shifter on a 65 cuda

That may just work! It looks like you need roughly 4 inches of vertical space under the console for the handle to clear.

Changing a floor 4 speed shifter to a 4 speed console shifter on a 65 cuda

@guido All of that stuff that was listed in the sale ad you posted in reply #6 above has to work together. The crooked looking offset shifter handle is hidden under that style console, and the only part that sticks up is the round part of the handle. It won't help you to just get a console...

Thinking about a Gear Vendors OD. Can Anybody Give Some Guidance?

You can buy the 18-spline heavy duty OD conversion gear set from Jamie Passon and add it to your existing 4 speed. You will have a heavier duty transmission and a better OD ratio than the GV. I had a GV unit on a 727 in a 71 Challenger. If I had that to do over again, I would have used a 518 and...

    what flywheel for a 273 128 tooth. with a 360 bellhousing

I've never seen one that wasn't drilled for a pilot bushing, and most have had the pilot bushing in them also. Stick or auto....didn't matter. Most 318/340 cranks are the same way....360's are a crap shoot!

    Help identifying a833

I saw that thing on Craigslist the other day. It was cheap enough to be tempting, for sure! As long as you don't put it behind some high HP motor, it should live fine if you don't jerk it around much. Good luck with it.

64 valiant 4 speed conversion questions.

A neutral balanced flywheel will work on a 318, as they were all neutral balance motors. How many teeth on the flywheel? Truck flywheels were bigger, and had like 143 teeth. I think car flywheels have 132. Have you looked into using a hydraulic throwout bearing instead of having to gather up all...

    Column shifters screwed

If it messes up again, and it's a 70 and up car.....send me a PM. I have a 3 on the tree column minus the steering shaft that I'm never gonna use. It came out of a 70 Duster.
