    23 or 18 spline?

I would do an 18 spline unit for several reasons. The gears are of a coarser pitch and 2-3-4 speed gears are bushed. The input shaft diameter is larger by 3/16 also. I have better luck overbuilding things that get abused. It appears that you have sufficient tire plant to warrant the 18 spline...

    Power Loc Clutch material

If you need some steels to make up a set I have extra in my stash of diff parts. Hopefully you have the thin shims in good condition - I typically reuse them with the Dana 44 kit. I added .100 to the clutch pack and my GTS and it seems good for street and some test hits at the strip.

    $476 to assemble an 8 3/4 diff

Around here we use different tools for different jobs. It depends on the parts on hand. Good point about the setup bearings. Those come in handy for sure! So...you didn't use a press for the axle bearings? Must have a chest freezer? Wife must be pissed lol!

    $476 to assemble an 8 3/4 diff

Typically a pinion has a number etched on the gear face indicating the correct depth between it and centerline of the ring gear. The pinion depth checker is essentially a dial indicator stand that registers from the carrier bearing bores. The purpose of this tool is to shim the pinion to it's...

    $476 to assemble an 8 3/4 diff

Some folks would rather have a known cost than fund an ongoing educational/r&d project. This is a hobby for most; only a few of us have the sickness. Everyone must draw the line somewhere. Think of that before you go all OMFG on the poor guy lol.

    $476 to assemble an 8 3/4 diff

You need a press, possibly a bearing separator, spanner tool, inch/lbs and ft-lbs tq. wrench, a large vice, pinion depth checking fixture and the other mentiined tools to ensure a successful mission. Too much work involved to do a job like this twice. Ps it if it was a Dana 60 you would need a...

    $476 to assemble an 8 3/4 diff

Qualify "disassembled" for us. If the carrier is together, gears/suregrip unit require no work and all you are doing is pressing bearings on the axles I can see blowing half a day *if* everything is clean and ready to assemble. If you have to set up the gears or check/repair the SG unit the...

    A833 buying tips?

You want to look for: -water damage/signs of excessive heat -chipped/damaged teeth on the speed gears/cluster gear -leaks at the counter shaft where it locates in the case -mashed/damaged sychro teeth -inspect the casting(s) very closely near the mounting flanges (bellhousing, -crosmember...
