    The 284 hydraulic was actually one of the best old 340 cams when used with 10 to 1 or more compression. the cam is only as good as the rest of the parts supporting it as mentioned! It can be ran into the 12s in a 3200 lb car successfully if you're needing to go faster than that it's probably...

    Horsepower on a nitrous boosted motor at the kind of power level you're talking about is primarily affected by nitrous jetting. The Magnum head has a decent exhaust side which will help accommodate the nitrous. Head flow becomes a little less critical factor when injecting torque from a bottle...

    seems like a whole lot of stick for the street, I assume it's a manual transmission. I don't claim to be an expert on camshaft mating but that's more duration than I would be comfortable in anything but a full race application

    as previously mentioned that is a lot of camshaft for the street, it could be made to work with the right Supporting Cast, converter, high rear end ratio Etc. But as far as Pistons go I would look at Icon forged they will be close to stock piston in weight and will give you the compression...

    I might get the Wrath of the Romans with this, but I put a ram HD Borg & Beck Style in my 340 and it is a great match. But it might be a little light for your setup. I run 275 50 dragnittos radials, it works great

    white smoke to me suggests water entering combustion chamber also would cause knock . I would be suspisos of a bad seal in your manifold gasket ...check plugs for clues

    shooting from the hip here and not doing the math I would say surfacing 20 thousands off your heads and thin head gaskets will put you around 9to 1 ,,,but if you go to a closed chamber 10,5 or more?

    If you can afforord a head change a set of close chamber heads and the part you listed will do just great for your goal maybe even small chamber rpms and header . I don't see why you would have to tear the motor down...but 340s is my thing and not a 360 builder.

    Purple Cam Design Question

    there are cams that do a little better at this and have better vacuum and low end butt the purple cams where developed on mopar la,s and big blocks and are great old grinds and when matched with the right parts are hard to beat.
