    2.76 vs 2.94 gearing

The 7 1/4" big bolt rear axle is great for that. AS long as you're not hammering the throttle, the 7 1/4" axle lasts and lasts. A few things that kill them is sudden shock loads like peeling out on a loose surface then onto pavement. The rotational movement suddenly slows way down when you gain...

    2.76 vs 2.94 gearing

If you had the town you live in listed instead of USA, someone close to you may have something to help you. When I see a member looking for a part and their location is close to mine, I try to help out. I may have a 2.94 axle but it is in a '76 model car with the bigger bolt pattern.

    8.8 swap

No...alignment should not change except when you raise the front off the ground, then set it back down. Once you move the car, it will settle into place. If all the components are in good condition, the alignment will only change as the bushings and steering components develop wear.

    8.8 swap

This picture looks like positive camber too. If you're okay with it, that is fine but it is terrible for handling and stability.

    Gear Vendors question

I agree. The .78 ratio is something but not that impressive for an overdrive ratio. The .69 of the 500/518 is fine.

    Gear Vendors question

Some of you guys had me confused with chatter about 4 speeds and 904 transmissions, so I went back and read the opening post. The guy has a Scamp with a 440 and 727.

    removing spider gears 7.25

I'm pretty sure that the Chrysler Fifth Avenue cars had a weird version of the 7 1/4" axle. It had 3" axle tubes, 10" drum brakes and crazy tall gears, like a 2.21 or something close to it. The Diplomat and Gran Fury shared the same body style but the Police cars in those models used an 8 1/4.

Any companies selling complete small block overdrive transmission assembles?

Some of the Chrysler FSM terminology is unusual and outside of the industry's usual wording. Ma Mopar calls a drive shaft a propeller shaft. They call the "z-bar" a torque shaft. We all know about the Sure Grip vs Posi argument, right? Ma Mopar does refer to the transmission mount as a rear...

    1964 Valiant 4 Speed with Posi .

Welcome to the forum. Marlin. Forgive the "lesson". Us Mopar guys don't usually embrace Chevrolet terms like "Posi". If you mentioned that you had a Rock Crusher 4 speed you'd really catch some flack! All the automakers had marketing names for their products. Our automatics were called...

    The 904 won't upshift to 3rd gear.

Hey everyone. THIS 67 Dart.... ...Has always been rough around the edges but still ran great. Lately, it won't upshift to 3rd gear. Aside from low fluid level, what else could cause this? The fluid smelled fine and the level was normal. It has a 360 4 barrel, an 8 3/4" axle too. The KD...

How the F do you get to the bell housing bolts?!

In all my years in construction, I've known many newbies that had no natural balance. They never developed any in the time that I knew them either. Creative thinking was my point. Some have it, others do not. You'll have a slower and less competent employee if you hire someone that needs their...

How is it that people don't know this? It is basic mechanic problem solving.

    Non-lockup 46RH?

This is news to me. I'd be surprised to know that any overdrive transmission was built without a lockup converter. Some 904s and 727s were lockup. I had a late 70s 904 with hydraulic lockup that would sometimes stick when I was slowing down. It would shudder unless I downshifted. I know that the...

    Duster Driveshaft length causing Vibration?

In a rare case of weird economics, a shop in West Sacramento does the same for about half that price. and has it done in a day. Glad that you got yours figured out.

Is a 7.25 rear strong enough?

Is a 7.25 rear strong enough?

It may have been on this forum where I read that what kills these units is extended one wheel peel burnouts. In this case, the spider gears are under great strain as opposed to two wheel burnouts where the spider gears are somewhat stationary. Sure Grips for 7 1/4" axles are rare. The Roadkill...

Is a 7.25 rear strong enough?

I guess if you're really in LOVE with the 7 1/4" axle then those Dr Diff shafts are worth the money but then you're still limited by the weak differential. An 8 1/4" axle can be found for that money.

Is a 7.25 rear strong enough?

Does anyone make one of those mini locker type of differentials for the 7 1/4" axle? Also....Is there any differences between the years that would prevent one from swapping axle shafts to change a 4" bolt circle axle to a 4 1/2"? You know, like a 73-76 V8 front disc car axle as a parts donor...

LS powered Duster, Abomination or Go For it!

I'm not all that crazy about them but I see the appeal. They give increased intake clearance while being the most aerodynamic design.

LS powered Duster, Abomination or Go For it!

This is such a safe and neutered way to respond. That just isn't my style. The OP asked for opinions. Here is mine. Get ready. GM engine swaps are bullshit. If Ma Mopar built shitty engines, I'd understand. If this were Cuba and no viable Mopar engines were available, I'd understand. Neither of...
