    '65 Mustang Hi-po vs '65 Formula S

Yeah well....after the Cobra was out, Ford approached Shelby about making a hi-po Mustang. I don't know the exact quote but Carroll said something like: "What!? That secretary's car?" He had to redo the front and rear suspensions to correct the geometry and improve traction. I've worked on...

    '65 Mustang Hi-po vs '65 Formula S

Yep, I remember street racing my 67 4 speed 273-4 against a 390 Mustang and I beat him. True story was the stock 68 Charger in Bullitt ran circles around the Mustang. They modified the car so it could make a pesentable showing. The engine sounds were also dubbed in from Ford race cars and all...

    '65 Mustang Hi-po vs '65 Formula S

Around 1971, my GF's (later wife) younger sister was attending Ohio U in Athens OH. She needed a ride back to school so my GF and I took her using their 66 Mustang coupe. We did the round trip in one day, probably 3-1/2 hrs each way with me doing all the driving on highways winding through the...

1964 plymouth valiant Slant six to 340

Brewer's has new speedo gears. I bought one last year for my 65 vintage B&T A833. Speedo is within 1 MPH at 70 according to my GPS. Nobody talks sbout the B&T trans having a ball bearing tail housing compared to sleeve bearings in newer ones. NASCAR teams used them into the mid to late 60's.

1964 plymouth valiant Slant six to 340

64 Val has 106" wheelbase. 67 and newer 2 doors went to 108". Ball and trunnion on trans in 64. IIRC the early shaft is only 2-3/4" diameter, newer are 3". A 66 shaft could work because it's the same wheelbase and u-joint. If it was me I'd get a new one made or a good longer one shortened. I...

    clutch fork replacement in car

I did this last summer on my 64 225 /6 Valiant. Installed the TO bearing on the input shaft without the fork before installing the trans.. It was very easy to insert the fork later as the bearing spring just clips onto the fork ears. Your results may vary as you seem to gave a bastard setup.

1966 Dodge Dart GT - Trying to Determine How Rare

"Rare" is one of the most overused words when talking about old cars. Approximately 30,000 Dart GT's built in 66 and approx 1/3 were V8's. Simple Google search. GT was a higher trim package which got you bucket seats and console. Very similar to top of the line Valiant Signet. Same basic car...

    1st/2nd Gen Barracuda Handling

My girlfriend's family in 1970 had a 66 Mustang coupe they had bought new. Nothing fancy, 289-2 and manual floor shift. I had my first Barracuda, 1967 FB, 273 Commando 4 speed, Non-Formula S, 10 " drums. She had a younger sister who needed a ride back to Ohio University in Athens Ohio so we...

    Bench to Buckets

That is correct. This is my 68 passenger side forward-most plate near the floor hump. It measures 4" X 4-1/2" but they don't need to be that big. The outer holes are reinforced by the brackets that go to the rockers.

    Bench to Buckets

After much research looking under many cars at Carlisle I did this in my 64 last summer. Look under the car near the rocker panels. You will see some reinforcement brackets that the bench seat studs pass through. Look for another hole that is located in the bracket, not through the floor...

1966 Dart Front Fender and Headlight Bezel Availability

Fenders are not reproduced, you'll have to find a used one or maybe go glass. Last year at either the Nats or Carlisle I came across repro 1964 Valiant bezels on a show board. I inquired but they didn't have any at the show. I went to their website when I got home and ordered one. It shipped...

    Early Abody 4 Speeds!!

This is my 200 series 64 Valiant. It didn't run when I got it but I rebuilt the 225, put the 3 on the tree back in and put 10,000 miles on in the last 5 yrs. This will be my 5th trip to Carlisle next month. Struggled with the 3 speed linkage so I started collecting parts over 3-4 years. Drove...

Thoughts on the front suspension/steering setup on this 65 Barracuda

It has a rack and pinion mounted in place of the standard Mopar worm and sector box. The normal struts were removed to make room and those others added to the rear. Geometry certainly is suspect! Those top bars might be the beginning of home brewed motor mounts. All can be converted back to...

    Let the tubbing begin.

15 yrs ago or so I became acquainted with a woman in the Columbus, OH area. Her first husband bought her a 67 cuda FB. IIRC, he passed away. She kept the car through thick and thin, took care of the kids, and eventually remarried. After many years she finally got the car painted, running and...

B-body drums on the front of a 65 Cuda?

Yeah I know all that. They also removed the self adjusters. It's not just the static weight. A 2022 Honda Civic has a listed weight of 2877-3126 lbs, comparable to a first gen cuda. See 11" drums under there? Or on a drag strip? Old time? I bought my first Barracuda in 1969 and just retired...

B-body drums on the front of a 65 Cuda?

Four 11" drums on an early A? Ever weigh an 11" drum? Rotational inertia is huge. Good way to slow your car down, not only decelerating but accelerating.

    Laysons patch panel

Check with Classic Industries as they usually have them. They run sales a few times a year. Laysons has a reputation for taking money on parts they don't have in stock and stringing people along. Many, many complaints about that. Personally, I bought 68 cuda tail light bezels from them and was...

    64 Dart Trunnion Boot

1964 Valiant. I used an ATV boot. All Balls #19-5008. Currently $13.20 on Amazon. Took a little slicing and dicing and I did not remove the cross pin. What warranty is on the Laysons part?

Anybody know if the PS gearbox from 65 Coronet fits a 65 Dart?

Without researching I can only speak for A bodies: Don't forget the centerlink mounts on top of the pitman and idler arms tnrough 1972. Tapered studs point up. Starting in 1973 the center link mounts under the pitman and idler. Tapered studs point down. You cannot mix and match between the two...

Anybody know if the PS gearbox from 65 Coronet fits a 65 Dart?

1962 and up: large sector used on C bodies, B vans and EVERYTHING after 1972. Small sector used on virtually everything else 1962-72. A 65 Coronet will work on a 65 Dart. All small sectors will swap if correct pitman arm is used.

Dual exhaust .... What are you running

Another thing to consider is that the early A trans crossmember is only clearanced for a single pipe, not duals. Not a big thing if you can use a welder. I bought my first Barracuda in 1969, a 1967 Commando 273 4 speed. As soon as I started it on the used car lot that car was sold! To me. Just...

    Need some advice

How committed is your wife to driving the car? If she is not very enthusiastic then I would not go to all the trouble of building a car she will seldom drive. I have a local Barracuda Buddy with 3 show quality 1969 Barracudas, all automatics. The green car, that he got in 1972, was recently...

1966 Plymouth Valiant rallye wheel help.

The standard 15" Chrysler Rallye wheels are 7" wide with 4-1/4 back space. The ringer here is 73-76 discs add track width. IIRC, 7/8" per side. I have 15x7 LBP on my 68 with 73-76 discs. I have 14x5-1/2 SBP Rallyes on my 64. I just had to replace 2 tires last week. Wow, the 14" tire selection...

    Mystery Part '65 Barracuda

I have the same part in my original /6 powered 64 Valiant. It has the factory 3 speed manual. Chrysler tends to "beef" things up on stick shift cars to allow for the shock loading. But didn't they realize how easy it was to do a neutral drop with the pushbutton trans?

1963 Dart engine bay wiring straps

Just count the number of paired holes in the inner fender. Just a heads up, the original straps in my 64 Valiant were flat but the repops I got have offsets molded into them. If you are a stickler for detail, it's not correct but most people would never notice.

Its rough out there in the streets

Ouch. That hurts. It's stories like this that make me seriously consider mounting a dash cam. I hear they have front and rear cameras for not much money.

    The lowly dart 170

I couldn't find them for my 64 Valiant bench either. I bought bucket seats and eventually covers from Legendary but it's a convertible. A 2 door sedan like yours should have a bench. As Valiantwagonguy said, take it to an upholstery shop and get a quote. Pretty simple job for a good shop.
