    !!!BUY THIS BOOK!!! ??

It does but again, someone can get creative with something as simple as a floor jack and a piece of steel pipe for that one.

    !!!BUY THIS BOOK!!! ??

There's not really any special tools required for a TF. Nothing the half way creative mind can't whip up in the garage.

    !!!BUY THIS BOOK!!! ??

That's something every enthusiast should know how to do. If you have to go to the junkyard and buy a scrap torqueflite do it. At least learn to take one apart and put it back together. Deal with the specifics later.

727 TC Installed - Probably Wrong...

This is one of the main reasons that you will never catch me installing an engine and a transmission as a unit. You have very little access to the TC bolts and you really can't see what you're doing down there. Then, you don't find conditions like the one described here until it's too late.

Strange Noise from a 727, Have NO Idea...

Yep!!! Along with the fun, glory, and the enjoyment of multiple cuts on our fingers, that's one of the main reasons we all learn to work on our own cars.

    valve bodies cracking?

There's no gasket between the halves and the separator plate. If anything it'll leak into another passage there first and might even be considered fairly normal.

    valve bodies cracking?

No, I haven't heard that. Did they develop a new plastic valve body while I wasn't looking?

    ID Rear End Help

You're not going to hurt that thing. There's a lot of variables like converter, gears, tires, and weight but those things are a lot tougher than people give them credit for being.

727 shift linkage - now car won't turn over

You can either hold the key in the start position and run the shifter through the gears or disconnect the cable then go under the car and run the shift lever through the detents to find the right spot. Then try again. Most shifters I've seen make it so you have to put the car in first and set...

    904 2-3 shift flare

I get beat up a lot for telling people that I do that. I only do it with transmission fluid. Sometimes antifreeze if it's new.

    904 2-3 shift flare

The timing of the front band and the actuation of the front clutch are the main areas of concern. What's happening is that your front band is releasing before the clutch is applying. Maybe the band is worn out out of adjustment. This is a freebie to try and tighten it, so if it doesn't fix it...

If your transmission doesn't shift to low you should adjust your linkage until it does. Then try again.

Let me throw this one in there. Do you have any engine braking? Or does the transmission freewheel until you stop?

    need help ID'ing tci transmission

Simple question here. What is TCI doing to get their reputation? After all, a torqueflite is a simple and durable transmission. With a few special tools and a book someone can rebuild one to last in their garage. Even Aamco can do it. How can TCI be so bad? Or are most people that condemn TCI...

    Band adjustment methods?

I don't think the adjustment is near as finicky as people may think. The manufacturers had to throw a number out there. The 72 lb/in and back off two turns is what they threw out there. Think of the ratio on your kickdown lever. Shouldn't this totally blow the two turns number out of the water?

    Talked to A and A

I have a 5.0 lever and 2-3 overlap. May or may not be related to the lever, but I was going to try a different lever anyways. I also switched to a manual VB and still have overlap. That's not why I did it and it's probably not related either. It did eliminate the VB as a reason though.

A good ballpark figure for an A-Body rear with the 742 or 489 Sure Grip is somewhere in the ballpark of a 1k. Give or take.

8 1/4 gear swap ratio difference???

Yes. It will fit. You will most likely need a notched cross shaft for those gears. They're pretty inexpensive though.
