    Need big block help

The "M" does indeed mean that it's an aftermarket Mopar block. Why do you think it was cast in '71???

    cam number

Maybe the three bolt version of this cam?? P2806980 (single bolt) Just a Six Pack or Magnum cam...gotta find an old catalog here somewhere..............

    440 engine stamp

Short shaft trans, really?? That's weird... If you post up the VIN # (partial) on the lower pan rail, someone will be able to confirm the car it came out of (likely not me tho lol). And, if you post up the PK # that's on the side of the transmission pan rail, we can reverse engineer that...

    440 engine stamp

    Really looks like a half-a$$ something stamped before the 7 too, maybe a T ??? Is it a cast crank engine (E)?? Maybe it's a big-bore? :poke:

    Mopar oil filter application

I think they are for almost everything. Spin-on that fits most all motors. It's a medium length tho, so not positive on chassis fitment. I'd say it can be used in almost every, if not every big block and hemi application. Not sure if the length could be a problem on small block and LA...

400/426 Stroker. Ever heard of one?

    400/470 - Cam Bearing Question

Also, keep in mind..... the boys at the factory engineering department studied on this very cam bearing issue long, long before you discovered this little anomaly. Nuff said?

    400/470 - Cam Bearing Question

I'd be more concerned about the gouged bearing. It is possible to drill the bearing in place, but it's not easy, would need to chamfered and checked afterwards. If I were you, I'd run it as-is and don't worry about the perceived misalignment. Who's heads? Indy's don't use those ports anyway.

What type of rockers are these?

I thought that too.... he didnt mention who's they were.... He has a build thread, maybe the info is there.
  11. Lefty71

What type of rockers are these?

They look like the rockers that were supplied with Indy cylinder heads 15 years or so ago. Some people assumed they were T&D's then, which is not correct. I have no way to know if that's what they are or not. I don't remember any identification on the set supplied with my 440-1's at that time.

400/426 Stroker. Ever heard of one?

Um.... that would not really BE much of a stroker at all. It would simply be an overbored 400 with a slightly longer stroke. I can only assume the gains would be minimal, especially when you think about the cost of those pistons. Chevy size big end rods?? All expensive stuff. BTW, 383 to...

    727 Trans

All passenger car 727's have the same overall length and crossmember mount configuration. Some trucks and vans have different tailshaft/tailstock lengths (always shorter). Many, many A-bodies are running BB motor conversions with standard passenger car 727's.... in my '69 Dart the top of the...

    Identifying Direct Connection Valve Covers

I agree with this. They did issue them repeatedly.... The 2002 parts catalog list them as #P5007448, chrome and baffled, but they use larger grommets (OD) and they are stamped "Mopar" , not DC. I'll look for the # in older catalogs, when I find where I left one lol. I'd bet yours are nice...

    hughes rockers

They did nothing, but I didn't ask.... I never found a cause, but I never feel like you can warrantee a race motor either....just my own opinion.

    hughes rockers

I have a set on my SS 383 Dart. One of the roll pins slid out and beat up the keepers and retainer a bit on its way to flying out... this happened with only a couple, maybe three hours on them and the brand new engine.... I replaced the one rocker, a spring and some other small parts just in...

Hedman B Body Headers vs Jegs B Body headers

The Ebay auction also clearly has a compatibility chart that states they fit a '70 Coronet with a slant six engine.....so, I guess you are all set as long as you read only what you want to read. I will assume YOU went to public school lol. Is this YOUR ad?? The seller is clearly a dipshit...

Hedman B Body Headers vs Jegs B Body headers

Erm..... read carefully. Those are listed as fitting slant sixes, as well as both small and big blocks. Wow!

    Mild 440 break in springs?

I'd bet old Hemi springs, aka 933's or "green stripes" without the damper are a decent choice....I'm sure jillions of cams have been broken in on them.

    A body headers

The headers of my dreams lol. Who told you they might fit an A-body??? Don't get me wrong, I'd be happy as a pig in sh*t if they did!

A body big block cam specs

Little foggy, but I thought it was same cam as 440 Magnum.... if not, very close to. TNT and Magnum 440's managed 375 hp, as opposed to vanilla 440's at ~330.

    Ford FE pistons in a 413 /426

Sounds awesome, and i'm all in with ya, if it's cheap and easy, but 383 and 426 wedge have different compression distances, and won't he have to bush the rods to the right size pin?? That's a lot of machine work, that will not be cheap, true?? Can someone put up an example FE piston to...

    440 intake reversed?

I've seen that before too..... Makes no difference otherwise from what I remember, like the ports line up just the same. So, depending on your application, maybe meaningless. Upside down, now that's another story lol.
