    Is my 340 stroked

I would think a stroked 340 with an xe268 cam would seem small and pump out the torque all the way through the RPMs. Had to do a lot of tuning to get my 318 to run right with that cam with a stock converter. Probably not stroked.

H405CP versus stock magnum 5.9 pistons

With 20 over replacement pistons, there was a significant weight difference on the 5.9 magnum I did. Just saying.

302 heads-Is it worth putting them on a stock 318

There you go again. Hey, you guys quit chiming in on this FABO forum!

302 heads-Is it worth putting them on a stock 318

I never said that. You are putting words in my mouth. With the KB pistons, for quench, I like them. Period. BTW you know this thread is from 2016? Who are you trying to convince?

318 Full of Chunks of Rust, How Bad is That?

I would knock out some plugs on the sides and clean the engine out with water. If it's just rust no big deal. If the water looks like oil floating on top, not good. Should have seen mine! It was solid behind the freeze plugs on the sides and it ran and cooled fine.

Holley Street Avenger 670cfm to big for 318cui?

No, it should be fine. My 318 really liked the 570 Holley but it will run fine with the 670. I now run the 670 on a 5.9 which runs well but tried an 870 and it ran just as fast but was less responsive on the street and was fouling plugs.

    Oem 5.9 Magnum Rods Forged?

Same as a 360 LA. Forged. Don't know about a viper though.

    Bronze gear necessary??

Yeah. Comp's customer service has been crap for quite awhile now. Last couple calls were not a good experience.

    Who builds reliable race/street engines?

I think I'm about in that HP range. About a hp per cube. 5.9 short block, stock type rebuilder parts, Procomp heads and good machine work. About 2K invested, but not as easy or as good as a BPE 408.

    1990 318

Great starting point for a 318. IMO The best of LA and Magnum blocks. Hmm, could be Magnum, have you checked the block casting #'s?

    Carbon on valves

Isn't this partially due to reversion? Exhaust gases coming back through the intake ports during camshaft overlap?

    340 engine mount bracket

I think I saw in so other threads where you would modify the 273 mounts for 340 for a price. Am I right and if so is that service still available?

    340 engine mount bracket

1 & 2 are the passenger side bracket and should be fine. Pic 3 is the drivers side and will need to be modified.

This your engine? It could be a /6 to V8 conversion bracket.

    340 engine mount bracket

These are 318 brackets on a 318 engine. The first two pics are drivers side, same bracket different angles. The drivers side is the side you need to change, narrower on a 360. The pictures are the same brackets you have for the 273. Did you see this link ^^^^^ The brackets you bought are B body...

    340 engine mount bracket

Okay, these are for a 318 A body. Don't bother with those new mounts. Their not right. BTDT. I guess you could use them to do that welding deal shown in a earlier post. SOLD - B/E Body Motor Mount Brackets

    340 engine mount bracket

Use the ones with the orange dots. I don't think the D/P brackets are correct for a A body. I'll take some pictures of some 318 brackets still on the engine for you later tonight. We'll get it figured out. :) In the last picture I think the brackets are reversed with the mounting holes going on...

    Bronze gear necessary??

I would call Comp and just ask. I think the cam gear is made for the regular steel gear. Computer Controlled 210/220 Hydraulic Roller Cam for Chrysler Magnum This is the one I am running. Shows billet but takes steel gear. I had the same concerns as you and after a bunch of research this is...

    340 engine mount bracket

318 or 273 brackets should be same or am I missing something? I have heard of people using washers to take up the space on a 318 bracket for a 340/360. I can see no reason to buy 318 brackets to mod them the same as the brackets you have now.

    Magnum camshaft questions

In regards to the rest of OP's question, you can get a any SBM timing chain, should be the same magnum or not. Fuel pump eccentric should be for a LA though if you are going to replace it. Moly coated ones are better.

    Magnum camshaft questions

Cam is already a long snout. Wouldn't need adapter. Less there is something about regrinding I don't know. Never had it done.

    Magnum camshaft questions

If you have a manual fuel pump then just get a LA cam then you won't have to worry about any wonkey adapters.

    318 complete combo suggestions...

https://www.hotrod.com/articles/318-small-block-build/ Based my 318 on this build. Good machining. No head porting or over-sized valves. Pretty impressive for what it is... KB167 pistons and closed chambered heads are what makes it IMO.
