Still trying to figure out what AAWJ means on engine block.

May be related but I read somewhere that cranks 360 cranks with CFD cast into them were stronger than the ones with AAWJ and that CFD represented a GM foundry!

Still trying to figure out what AAWJ means on engine block.

It may be code for the foundry that cast it. Certain 360 cranks & heads have that cast into them also.

First post. Need help with Crank register diameters!

In '66 or '67 Chrysler went to the bigger registers, including small blocks & I believe big blocks. Converter splines were also different. I don't know if any /6 and V-8 flexplates interchange in those small register early years.

    Head Bolt Torque Question

There would be a difference depending if you use regular oil or the special lube like ARP uses regardless of engine or bolts..

    1bbl Aluminum intake

I don't know much about /6, but just wondering if it may be a Feather Duster/Dart Lite /6 intake. If you know the application (casting number), maybe someone more familiar with it can offer more info.

Why would you do this to a pan?

If they got stripped out! Only one appears functional.

Different size torque converter knob 170 vs 225?!? Are you kidding me?

Quite some time ago a friend & I ran into that problem when we were installing a fresh 340 with an early 273 forged crank. Had division finals coming up & discovered the difference the hard way during the thrash. We got it after he ground out the register as carefully as he could. But I don't...

Harmonic Balancer Separated when removed - Repairable?

I've only used SFI rated balancers from Pioneer on my race cars, but Summit has a Pioneer OEM replacement for a 225 at a reasonable price. As Charlie mentioned earlier, double-check the timing marks. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/pio-da-2250/overview/year/1972/make/dodge/model/dart It...

    Best Harmonic Balancer?

I have used Pioneer SFI rated balancers on my race cars for years without issues. They also make an OEM replacement for the 225 /6. I don't know if you need it for a smaller /6 or if they interchange. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/pio-da-2250/overview/make/dodge

    oil filters

It might be interesting to do some research and see who actually makes them under the Mopar label. Quality varies quite a bit between filter manufacturers and they can change as companies shop around to save a few cents here and there.

    Zinc Additive

Higher zinc & phosporous oils are good insurance for older style engines. Amsoil synthetics are a good option with a variety of high zinc oils to choose from. No need for additives if you buy the right oil that's properly formulated by the manufacturer to begin with.

    What oil is best?

Brand of oil is a matter of preference. The viscosity should be the first consideration. Multi-viscosity will help fuel mileage and circulates faster upon start-up. So a 10w-30 or 15w-40 should be used instead of a straight weight. Since you have flat tappets, it couldn't hurt to lean towards...

    Valve Spring Retainer ??

Longer valves should be researched because the longer length can put the rocker contact patch in a less desirable location. http://www.compcams.com/ http://cranecams.com/ http://www.summitracing.com/ You'll need to do some research to see which parts they have that will match up with...

    Confused Sudden Performance

The recent cool-off and dry air coming down can make at least a tenth or two difference at the race track and could be noticable on the street. It has been a hot and humid summer here in the Southeast. It could be the jetting and/or the accellerator pump circuit being on the rich side for the...

    Harmonic Balancer

If the balancer has a "wobble" to it, it could be that the rubber degraded and the outer ring is on its way off! You might be able to tell with a closer inspection after taking the pulleys off (engine off). But take precautions because if it does slip all the way off while the engine is running...

    Carb. leak

Holley makes some blue(?) non-stick gaskets that work well and last for the bowls as well as metering blocks. Just make sure that all the old gasket material is cleaned off. I've also been using nylon washer gaskets for the bowl screws.

Ok. I can't remember the last time that I looked inside a /6. Just putting out some possible reasons for lift loss.

    rocker arm ratios

.....or slant 6's. There can be smaller losses due to other factors also. Is the /6 geometry inline or off to some degree?
  20. Locomotion

    rocker arm ratios

Everyone needs to remember that even with accurate 1.5 rockers, you WILL NOT get the advertised 1.5 cam lift in a small block Mopar. The main cause is the lifter/pushrod/rocker angles which are not "in line". I forgot the numbers, but I think it's at least .015-.020". Probably higher numbers...
  21. Locomotion

    rocker arm ratios

Yes, the 3.9 is a "Magnum" engine which came with 1.6 rockers like the 318 and 360 Magnums. One must also be careful with higher ratios, especially when using OEM springs, because a valve opening and closing faster usually requires a stiffer spring to be able to keep up with it and not...
