    The 440 Club

Most of the time if you run the original stamped valve covers there is no interference problems with the heater motor. Check your engine for the correct orientation front to back. If you do run into interference problems there is a mod you can do to offset the heater motor. You can find it here...

Which plug wire set on your BB?

I used 2 different set of Taylor wires and both had issues with the boots cracking under heat so I ended up buying the Accel 9001C universal set. They have ceramic boots that so far have been practically impervious to header heat. They were pricey but I'm glad I got them because I no longer...

'68 383 barracuda fastback - what to look for?

Look for rust or rust repairs in the bottom rear quarters, lower rear corners of the fenders, the area on the rocker panels just below the door jambs, bottom corners of the back glass, and of course the floors in the cabin and trunk. Look for things that would be found on a factory big block car...

Your max rpm for your big block????

My 496 with a mild cam stops making more power at 6200 rpm so that`s where I go with it. Check out Dan Dvorak`s machine shop website for lots of info on big block oiling.

    stock 383 ET numbers?

I had a 383 GTS with an A/T in the 70`s, bone stock with the exception of a 3.55 sure-grip. It ran consistently in the mid 14`s with street tires.

What will my 70 383 Super Cammando fit in

You can use the Schumacher engine mounts to install it in an A-body. The trans should have two places to mount the shifter if it came out of an E-body. The rear mount is for E-body cars and the front for B-body cars. If you want to use it in an A-body it`s possible if you fabricate an adapter...

    440 Exhaust options?

Oh, I didn`t read that right. Sorry. Summit sells a 2.5" (out the back) system for A-bodies with turbo mufflers for about 2 bills.

    440 Exhaust options?

I`ve heard of guys modifying the B-body headers. That would be one cheap alternative to using Schumacher tri-y`s or actually buying a pair of A-body headers.

    oil pans

Most people using a stock pan will opt for the 187 or 699 pan since they both have a relief in them for the steering linkage. The 402 pan will also work. Several aftermarket pans are said to work now, check some of the other threads on here for the makers.

    Lucas Response To Zinc Additive

I`ve read that a minimum of 1100ppm is enough to protect most cams/lifters. It`s also important to have a little phosphorus in the blend as well. I`ve just been using Valvoline VR-1 which is formulated for use with flat tappet cams. I like Lucas products but I would be less than impressed with a...

440 sixpack throttle and kickdown linkage

Try getting the kickdown adapter for the carburetor first and then you should be able to make your lokar cable work by adapting the anchor bracket to the carburetor base. As a last resort, you could buy the repro kickdown linkage. The down side is that it`s very expensive.

    Aftermarket Big Block Oil Pans

I used the Milodon and it was supposed to fit but I still had to clearance it a little for the steering linkage, and that was on an original big block car. I`ll have to check out that 440Source pan.

what gaskets to use with aluminum heads?

Unless your compression is way up there you should be good with something like a Fel-Pro or MP composite gasket in the .038-40 range.

    Reusable b.b. valvecover gaskets

After using Fel-Pro rubber gaskets for the longest time I found another gasket by Fel-Pro that is a high heat resistant composite that works great for people who adjust their valves frequently and they run about $16.50 a pair.

    Big Block rebuild book

Yup, that`s the one. I read some of the reviews and they`re very favorable. The book is very good for giving you the "how to" and the "why" and goes over casting numbers (so you can identify what you`ve got) as well as what parts will interchange.
