    carpet install

How far up under the dash should the carpet go? Does it need to be trimmed to clear the gas pedal “arm” or does it stop at the base?

Loop or Essex? Need new carpet! Opinions welcome.

Sounds like the quality of the loop is nice enough. That will certainly work for me. I'm still curious as to what makes Essex more expensive. The deadener weighs 40lbs? Damn. I appreciate that insight...I'm going to try to get by without it, maybe add that later if I absolutely have to.

Loop or Essex? Need new carpet! Opinions welcome.

I just changed up my column shift 3spd auto car to a non-console 4spd manual. Along with this obviously comes the need for new carpeting. It looks like there are two general choices in reproduction carpets: loop or "Essex." Loop is sold as the basic factory type stuff. Essex looks like the...

I’m interested in this answer…my car has the later cardboard style and it would undoubtedly be a simpler installation.

Question 74 Duster Bench to bucket

Mike, Thanks. So the same bracket used by the bench is used by the bucket, just a different hole that's more in-board. I'll look for that tonight. So the pics above with these reinforcement plates on the underside of the floor boards (outside the car) are an "incorrect" use of the plates?

Question 74 Duster Bench to bucket

Guys, I have a set of these plates ready to go in. I wasn't sure of the arrangement so I called AMD to verify. The answer that I got was even more puzzling. According to the tech (a very nice guy with two Mopar B Bodies of his own), the plates are intended to go on the top surface of the floor...

Aftermarket bucket seats into a bench seat car- concerns and considerations?

So my seats are on the way. I ended up going with a similar model to the one in the first picture but from Cobra Racing Seats. They were a bit cheaper. Unfortunately, the ones I wanted weren’t a commonly stocked combination so I had to put in a custom order. They will arrive early March, I...

Modern seatbelt retrofit - who makes these?

I though there were specific kits for Mopars...but would these work? Retro Belt 369-BLK-12: 3-Point Retractable Shoulder Belt Color: Black | JEGS

Modern seatbelt retrofit - who makes these?

I believe these have been discussed on the forum but I have been messing around with the search feature and I just can't seem to find the thread. There are at least a couple of companies that make three point seat belts that can be retrofit into our cars. IIRC, they offer a kit for bucket seat...

    Rear seat delete

How much weight is there to be saved with a rear seat-ecotomy? I think it would be easy enough to cut a piece of ply wood and find a section of reasonably similar carpet to put in its place. Just trying to figure out if it's worth the effort...for a car that's just being set up to be a back...

Fellow rednecks: Anyone using their removed bench seat as "furniture" :D

So I finally have some bucket seats, reinforcement plates, sliders and mounting hardware ordered up! Aside from drilling some holes in the floor, I always try to preserve the option to put the car back to factory stock. Keeping the factory bench (which is in pretty good shape) clean and dry...

Aftermarket bucket seats into a bench seat car- concerns and considerations?

Those seats look great! I have looked at OEM BMW seats as possible donors. Like yours, they usually seem to demand a recovering job...which I don't have the time or skills to do right. I've also looked at old Porsche seats and even Miata seats. Fabricating the mounts seems a bit...

Aftermarket bucket seats into a bench seat car- concerns and considerations?

Do you mean the shape? It's a pretty standard vintage look sports car seat. They have looked like this for decades and a lot of companies make a version. I like this particular one because they managed to make the style a bit more slim. Most of them look too puffy for my taste.

Aftermarket bucket seats into a bench seat car- concerns and considerations?

First, it looks like us bench seat folks will need to install floor reinforcements similar to what the factory bucket cars had. Is it correct to say that these must be welded or is a bolt-in application acceptable? Auto Metal Direct 407-1067-S: Bucket Seat Floor Mounting Bracket Set for...

    bucket seats

@Sparky What did you decide on? I've been taking my time with swapping out my bench so I'm going through a similar process. I've been looking at seats that would go in old sports cars to match the aesthetic that I like in my Dart. So far it looks like early 70s Porsches are a pretty good...

    replacement seats

Thanks for the link to the update! The seats look really good. Modern, well bolstered and not overwhelmingly huge :) They're not the style that I want for my own build but it's a great reference point for what a modern seat can look like. You do good work!

    replacement seats

How did you make out? Any progress yet? I'm working on the same question. My goals are something that look (or are) relatively period-correct, lighter than stock, good lateral support, black vinyl. Buying used seats is always a roll of the dice...re-covering with vinyl is expensive, as is...

    MOMOMopar (Did I stutter?)

I have really been loving the Momo Mod 7 suede wheel...but I got a spontaneous hankering to try out something new and I found a deal on an open box silver Momo Prototipo. I'll be damned if I don't like this one just as much. The black suede wheel will probably be up for sale soon. I just need...

Good thoughts there! I don’t anticipate the turn signal lever bothering me. I bent it back a few degrees when I had the Tuff Wheel replica in there and it doesn’t get in the way now. The shift lever...well, I’m dreaming of my T56 Swap next year or so! That would solve that problem :D

    Procar - Scat 80-1606

I have milled those over myself. They look decent enough and you can't argue with the price. Two considerations; IIRC, SCCA requires FIA certification for aftermarket seats...maybe someone can verify if that applies to NHRA too. FWIW, I didn't see verification that they had this...

    MOMOMopar (Did I stutter?)

The steering wheel arrived and it looks exactly like the sports car steering wheel that I've wanted in a car since I was a kid. Simple, clean design, light weight, excellent suede grip with just the right diameter. Unfortunately I didn't get home from night classes until almost 10PM and I'm...

    MOMOMopar (Did I stutter?)

The adaptor showed up on Saturday and it went on in about 5 minutes. The only catch seems to be figuring out how to make the horn work. The diameter of the open space around the hub of the adaptor is now much smaller and won't let the contact plate work in the stock arrangement. The wheel...

Question 74 Duster Bench to bucket

Steve, That's an interesting thought. I suspect that it could be done and it could theoretically be totally fine. For me, the question would be answered by; "would this pass tech inspection at the track?" And...what are you epoxying to? You'd be putting a lot of faith in the previous owner's...
