    TQ home-brewed choke setups

I ran a chokeless 850cfm TQ with a Performer RPM manifold & adaptor on my 73 Duster340-4spd combo without much issue. On cold weather starts I just pumped the hell out of it or poured alittle gas down the carb prior to starting. With a 4spd you can feather it till it wants to idle good. Warm...

    Action+Plus vs Stealth

I ran a Stealth manifold, 1" 4 hole spacer and a 750cfm Edelbrock on my 70 Duster 360 and it ran very well. The 750 cfm Eddy isn't great for gas mileage but performance was excellent.

What carbs are you guys running on your 360's

I ran a #1407 Edelbrock 750 with a 1" 4hole spacer on my built 360 and it performed flawlessly with excellent throttle response.

    stock 340 carb size????

    1971-1973 340 TQ carbs were rated 800cfm 1-3/8" primaries & 2-1/4" secondaries. 1974 & up 360 HP TQ carbs were rated 850cfm 1-1/2" primaries & 2-1/4" secondaries.

Here's a do it it myself version.

    Drilling the throttle plates

I drilled my primaries 1/8" on my 850cfm TQ to help idle quality on a 340-4spd with a MP508 cam. It helped me idle around 900rpm with that cam.

Switching from Edelbrock 750 to 600 CFM

I agree and you can run either carb properly set up. I prefer the larger carb on 340 & 360 motors but that's just me.

    Cold winter starting issue

No choke = tough cold starts. You can try priming the carb with about 1/2 ounce of fuel down the throat to see if it helps. With no choke the engine is gulping ALOT of air with little gas right off the bat. Plus the fuel we use today doesn't make it any easier.

    over carbed???

I run a 1407 Eddy 750 on my 360 and it runs great. Stock jets just went one step leaner on the rods. Bumped timing up to 20 intial/36 total for the 280H Comp cam. No bog and excellent response at any rpm. MPG sucks with 3.91 gears but I don't give a rats *** about mileage.

Trouble with a new Thermoquad Installation

Thermoquad choke setup can be a PITA. Good luck! I prefer a manual choke carb truthfully.

which carb spacer should i use

Go with 1/2" and you should have no clearance or linkage issues with a stock motor. Any spacer will help hot start problems besides performance benefits. If your motor is modded or built give us some specs.

    ThermoQ -2 questions:

This is most likely your cause. It can look OK but still leak. If you can't get them off just sand off the excess, rough up plastic and apply a thin line of JB Weld Epoxy all the way around the jet wells.

    Possible Vapor Lock

I hope you're running a fuel psi regulator set at 6psi. !!!! It could be getting flooded. Check down the throat of the carb after you shut it off. Is there alot of gas vapors coming out of the carb? Could be a needle/seat or float problem.

    Carter AFB/340 Tuning

On my old 1973 Duster 340-4spd-4.10sg I ran a Carter #9636 for a while. I ran .104 primary jets/.101 secondary jets with 68/42 rods and the orange 5" springs due to my MP508 cam. It also had 2.02 valve heads, Performer RPM manifold and headers. It was a good running very responsive carb but...

    Who has functional hood scoops?

My Duster has the fiberglass six pack hood and 14" x 4" Jegs element. No shortage of fresh air with this combo with a high rise manifold and 1" spacer postioning the air cleaner right in the opening.

    Carb selection?

Buy a nice Thermoquad off Ebay for your car. It will work well on a 318 or 360 as it can be tuned for many applications.

    Scored a 1000cfm TQ at a swapmeet!

Got it and two #9103 TQ's (1977 hp) plus a Stewart Warner electric fuel pump for the grand total of $30. The "superquad" is in nice condition and just needs to be freshened up it looks like to me. Not sure what I'm going to do with it yet as my BB #9023 TQ is plenty of carb for my 340!

    Thermoquad

Truthfully I would put a fresh rebuild kit in it but that's just me. I doubt it will run well after sitting for so long.

    hesitation

Get your venting problem fixed first and install a fuel psi guage if you don't already have one. I thought I had a venting problem on my car but it turned out to be a cracked fuel hose by the tank that was only 4-5 yrs old. It didn't leak gas but would suck air into the fuel line. I...

    Time for a New carb

You might try and find a nice 800 or 850 cfm TQ if you want better gas mileage with good performance. If you're not familiar working on them someone like Demonsizzler could set one up for your car. I run an 850cfm TQ that I bought off Ebay on my mildly built 340-4psd and fine tuned it alittle...

    car leaking gas

Check your float sending unit seal or the short elbow piece of clamped fuel hose from the sending unit to the fuel line clamped on the frame rail. On mine it was the small piece of hose. I just stuck a funnel with a 6 gallon outboard motor tank under the car and pulled the hose off. After the...

    carb size

Stick with a Edelbrock 600 or a Carter 625 #9636 if you can find one. The EB strip kit will work fine with it.

sick of messing with the holley

That 340 with an LD340 manifold would love a tweaked 850cfm Thermoquad! Just a fresh idea. LOL!
