Charlie is correct about how the '66 timing tab attaches; it is a separate piece, bolted on.

    2bbl conversion for slant six

IIRC the Super Six package may have had another 1/4" of exhaust diameter but no other significant changes. An exhaust upgrade can be beneficial, but isn't mandatory when installing a Super Six. Although any changes to the manifolds will be easier when you have them off already, of course. If...

    2bbl conversion for slant six

The Super Six uses the same exhaust manifold as the one barrel setup, so there isn't a pressing need to make changes. Unless he wants to make improvements there too, of course.

    2bbl conversion for slant six

Pretty easy to get some more common pedals in there like an F/M/J body pedal, although you'll need to make a bracket out of steel plate to get it in the right place. Or if you want to keep pedals that swing from the floor, a lot of mid '90s BMW pedals might be adaptable.

(Sorta) Super Six Build Just Getting Started

I used a Lokar cable kickdown (there's a more affordable cable option but I can't recall its name) connected to the gas pedal like a second throttle cable.

    Gasket recommendations?

I'm using a Remflex exhaust flange gasket and was quite impressed. IIRC, the manifold gasket I'm using now is a Felpro, and I don't have any complaints, but the Remflex looks even better. Not using a riser gasket myself.

    Oil pan gasket tips?

Unfortunately nobody's making a one piece silicone gasket for the slant six that I'm aware of. If you have a source, please let us know; I tried to find one a few years ago and struck out. There's one on the market that replaces the cork rail gaskets only, and keeps the rubber end pieces, but I...

    Oil pan gasket tips?

If you can't pull the motor, there are little clips that thread into the pan bolts that will be a big help. I knew a mechanic who had worked at a Toyota dealership who used Toyota 00295-00103 sealant on every oil pan, Toyota or not. It's worth a try.

    Distributor question

I have seen a nylon distributor gear break once. When I dropped a screw into the distributor while adjusting the points and forgot about it. Probably would have been even uglier if something else had been the weakest link. Outside of blatant abuse, the gears hold up pretty well. If I were...

Valve Guides for Oversized Valves and Lead-Free Gas?

Stock slant sixes usually don't have much valve seat wear issues even with an older head on unleaded gas. Between the relatively low RPM these engines usually run at, the small valve size, and the way the head does a decent job of circulating coolant around the valve seat, there's not too much...

King bearings here - can't remember the PN.

slant 6 exhaust manifold to pipe gasket???

Using a Remflex too - no leaks, and I have a turbo downstream of the exhaust manifold.

    Boosted slant?

Many of the aluminum slant six manifolds had leakage issues, although if it doesn't leak under vacuum, it won't leak under boost. Cast iron super six manifolds will not have leakage issues, but welding port injector bungs if you go EFI would be a challenge. I also would be concerned with a TBI...

    /6 turbo

I suspect, if Smokey's engine wasn't a bit of trolling, it was a homogenous charge compression ignition engine. Very tough to set up and tune, and running past the edge of detonation, on purpose. It definitely wasn't on stock internals, and while he sold the rights to Crane, they never were able...

Anyone running a Holley Sniper 2300 on their slant?

If you're thinking of adding a turbo, I would recommend multiport EFI over a TBI. TBIs have enough fuel distributution issues on NA engines as it is. While you can make it work there's a reason there were only two OE TBI turbo applications I'm aware of (Mitsubishi Starion and Colt Turbo, if you...

    New Timing Chain Set Loose?

At least that's not the garbage cast gear with three thin spokes. I ended up using a Roll-Master double roller timing chain in my build - expensive by slant six part standards, but they're the best quality one you can find for a slant six.

    What do these fit?!

If it fit a Mirada (and assuming this wasn't some weird custom fab tube frame front end), it should fit other F, M, and J bodies. Aspen, Volare, Diplomat, etc.

    Slant 6 Main bearings

Using King main bearings here. Never mind some places listing cast crank parts; I ran into a case where Rockauto sent me bearings for a 273! Check King's website for the right part number.

Part hunting for timing chain job

At this point, virtually all timing sets except Roll-Master use a cheap cast iron cam sprocket with three very thin spokes. I've heard reports these can fail at high (4000+) RPM. I'm not even sure you can get the nylon sprocket ones anymore unless you find old stock sitting around. I would opt...

Did any year of Duster come with a stock coolant overflow tank?

Impressive - this manages to look original in a way I never would have expected a much later part to look.

    Has Anyone Tried These Gaskets?

I have their valve cover gasket, non reinforced. It does not leak, but I have not had it on there long enough to see if swelling is an issue.

What timing gear do I need?

At this point, it appears the three wide space cam gear and the Romac steel gear are about your only choices. Most that have other designs in the picture are the "three wide" design when you get them out of the box. After hearing too many stories of the three wide spaced gears cracking at high...

    Slant 6 MPG Upgrades?

My experience with TBI vs port injection is that the jump in drivability and mileage between TBI and port injection is about the same size as the jump from a carb to TBI. While this may not be cost effective if the goal is to save money, if the goal is to optimize the slant six to see how far...

    Coil question on my /6

Sure, but it's overkill unless you're running something crazy like a turbo build. For a normal street slant six, a HEI type ignition is plenty hot.

    Aftermarket turbo exhaust manifold?

It's not just temperature - their accuracy is affected by pressure, too. The temperature in shorter headers would be likely to kill the sensor, but even if the temperature is within acceptable limits, the pressure will make it very tough to get an accurate reading with a wideband O2 sensor.

    Slant Six fun graphic

Very cool. I've wanted to come up with a version of the bee that has six exhaust ports, but also had a turbo under his "wing" and an intercooler around his neck.
