    Hurst Shifter quiz

Thanks guys, it looks like a wrap on this one. The irony of this is that I converted my '65 Val. to a 4 speed using a later run of the mill hurst shifter.:burnout:

At your convenience, pics would be great. Here's what I've got as far as numbers and pics: 5-5-M-5 and the levers: 2336 2130 2359

Cool, I'm still learning. I like the idea of the stops.

    Hurst Shifter quiz

It's a Mopar, I've rebuilt quiet a few of the '70's versions. It's just weird to have the reverse lever tilt reward in the alignment position....? The shift stops seem to be on aftermarket shifters. The factory shifters don't have them from what I've seen.

    Hurst Shifter quiz

That's what I was thinking after scanning the net, I knew someone here would know. It has a big lean toward the dash for the handle and when you align the holes in the levers, the reverse lever sits rearward rather than lined up with the others.

    Hurst Shifter quiz

I got a shifter in a trade and I'm not sure of it's application. I think I know what it fits but I wanted to get some other opinions. It pivots a little different from the ones I'm used to, like from the '70's, and the shifter arm leans forward more than I'm used to. Anybody seen this before...

    Cluster gear fix ?

True and it's been fun just trying to problem solve it.:burnout:

    Cluster gear fix ?

Wow, bearing bronze isn't cheap, but I found some locally so that's good. Got them machined and trial fitted everything, it's still a little tight so I'll have to take a little more off. About .007" off each washer should get me at the low end of the factory clearance. That's a lot of work to...

    Passon performance 5 speed

Reading this thread has made me want one of these again, I would even be able to take a short trip with the 3.91's to a car show or cruise. Let's see...12 to 14 mo. .....that's some where in the neighborhood of $12-$14 per day, that's going to be a hungry piggy bank snorting at me every...

    Cluster gear fix ?

The thrust washers have that v notch, I think I'll try and duplicate that treatment in some bronze spacer/thrust washers. Wish me luck!

    Cluster gear fix ?

I'm going to call this part a win. It ground out the marks without going too deep and some sanding with a wore out flapper disc. A little sanding with 600 then 1500 paper I believe will be as good as new. I filed the high spots in the case and mocked it up. The factory tolerance is up to .029...

    Cluster gear fix ?

That kind of damage looks like the cluster was being loaded toward that end, but I can't imagine how that could happen. Maybe just a lot of trash got embedded in the washer. Thanks

    Cluster gear fix ?

Thanks AJ, Brewers sells shims for end play adj. but I'll have to see how much I have to grind off, hmmm.....bronze, I like that idea. I could mill the backside off and leave some honkin big tangs that wouldn't shear off. :burnout:

    Cluster gear fix ?

I've got a basket case 4 speed from a friend. He had someone take it apart, years ago, to look for a vibration that turned out to be the driveshaft, in part. He went to an automatic and I snagged the disassembled 4 speed. It looks like the thrust bearing caught some metal bits and scored the...
