    1974 Dart 440 tuning help

What list number carb do you have. Don't remember the 4780 having a secd PV. Regardless, your way light on the secd jet.

    Ball hone?

Honestly, find another core and build the stroker you planned on. A ball hone is not going to clean it up enough and i wouldn't put any money into it without fixing the pump housing sealing issue. Sorry, just my personal opinion.

    How To Figure Compression Ratio

I agree with the ''if it runs good, don't stress over the current set up''. That's a great looking sleeper Dart and i feel for those Radial T/A's, especially if you go to more head/horsepower. :)

470 SFT cam recommendation (I searched!)

Me too... I used almost exclusively ATI products back then and had great results. Didn't hurt that i lived just a few miles from there shop...lol. Tried a few GER's and B & M, but wasn't thrilled with those. Many good builders these days and i think the current users can give you some...

    Phenolic Carb Spacer

Just curious why you want the spacer? I build a wood spacer once to try on a single plane to test for more power, but i couldn't bring myself to install it...lol. I did try several aluminum one's but on the street didn't feel any ''seat of the pants'' gains so i did away with it.

    Holley 0-80508s 750cm 4160

That carb would be fine for low compression 440, probably right out of the box with minor tuning. My initial concern is that's a lot of intake for that engine. Hopefully you have a little rear gear or at least a bump in stall speed.

What is your ride height going to be. I doubt a stock style hemi pan would be much lower than the headers.

470 going to the dyno - HP/TQ estimates

Congratulations.....Only thing i got right was that it would peak a little early. Man that torque curve goes on forever. One of the best 470'' streetable engines i've ever seen. Again...congrats and enjoy.

    Isky 264 Mega in a 400

I have never run one, but the specs look great for what you say you want with the 9.5 to 1. Only caveat would be that with iron heads you may have to pay strict attention to your timing curve running average pump gas

470 going to the dyno - HP/TQ estimates

That's always my concern when making these random guesses. I just keep looking at the cam specs, SD intake, even though worked, and modest compression. While it's got plenty of head, i just can't see it making peak torque past 4800. If the springs are up to it for 62/6300 rpm's, i'm going to go...

QUESTIONS ABOUT MOTOR HEALTH [Oil Smell, Coolant Temps, Black Spark Plugs, Loud Alternator]

Just another thought, while not getting hot idling at home, a exhaust blockage will certainly cause it under a load. And that could also explain the black plugs. As far as the alternator whine, it probably is just a faulty rebuild as long as the belt tension has been correct.

QUESTIONS ABOUT MOTOR HEALTH [Oil Smell, Coolant Temps, Black Spark Plugs, Loud Alternator]

How many miles are on this thing. Is it in the motorhome. First thing that jumped out at me was that you've had flooding issues before. That may be a fairly low compression engine to begin with and if those rings got washed, it may be time for a rebuild. I think you may have more then one...

470 SFT cam recommendation (I searched!)

Depending on how many street miles you want to run, i'd stay pretty conservative with the camshaft. At 3400 lbs you only need about 450hp to run 11.5 with a good conv/susp set up. I personally would look at something that leans toward a old school ''soft'' lobe profile so you can get some good...

    400 motor parts

The last Mopar was a 2002 Dualie. Dealt with several brand muscle thru the years. Turn 65 in Feb so i think my days are done. But i did have a good 30yrs run, so i'm more than satisfied watching y'all have at it.

I know you had a good relationship with Tony, and his help with the small block stuff was priceless. But sadly he's no longer with us, and you've moved east, so maybe it's a good time to delve into something new. Good luck with this new project I probably won't be of much help, but i'll try and...

535 supercharged first time start up?

At that level of engine, i'm really surprised you didn't go with a roller. That said, if the carb tune and timing were correct with the 440, i see no reason you cant maintain the 2.5k-3k rpm's needed. I'd run the belt because i could see all kinds of fuel distribution problems with out it. I am...

    440 Help Needed

I just have a hard time believing this is carb related. Even if the AVS took a dump, that new 750VS should have been able to bolt on and clean it up at idle. With 72ish jets and even a 10.5PV it should idle with the vacuum he has 10/15. Maybe it's ignition related, who knows? I know the heat...

    440 Help Needed

Just to address some of the previous comments, i never thought the car wouldn't like 25 deg as part of the tuning process, i was responding to carfreak's posts above. 440 Help Needed

No way in the world a 3.75 stroke with that compression should need 25 degrees to run properly at idle with a @230 cam. Two carbs, same problem. How does it run going down the road? What do the plugs look like? Any chance your right side manifold has a stuck closed heat riser?

    RB 180 Headers tight fit

Not having personal experience with 180 deg headers, i was always under the impression that they increased torque in the upper mid range, 4/4.5k. Looks like that cam has a quick int. close and should help build torque. Not sure on the 240 ext. Might be able to shorten the tubes a hair more? That...

    RB 180 Headers tight fit

Thanks for the reply. Factory rated 73cc heads. Guessing those pistons are pretty deep in the hole. Or your using a pretty thick head gasket. Regardless, a low comp BBM can still make some impressive power. Good luck with your header Fab.

    RB 180 Headers tight fit

I figure this is mainly for street car use, and a light one at that. Nothing wrong with a little less on the bottom end if it allows it to hook. I built several cars that way back in the 70's. Hook hard and pull big from 3k up. :) Glad you have the rack. Not many would attempt that header...
