Is it possible to replace a neutral safety switch without putting a car on a lift? Could I jack the body of the car up and be able to reach it or would I be wasting time. 1975 Plymouth duster 904 auto

The car only sat for one day. The noise occurs on start up and at idle, when you shift into neutral and while you accelerate for a while and then goes away after 5 minutes of driving. All hoses are hooked up. I will try the belt thing.

Like stated, that would probably be the easiest way.. have a buddy line up the other side, hook up the u joint and then bolt it in place and make sure that it is tight.

If the years are posted 1965-1972 I can still work this into an A body right? With these gears do you think it would be worth picking up?

Can someone also provide information about how to identify clutch or cone. Springs = cone?

Does this check out on the casting number? 2070741 270 gear ratio back of plate to back of plate is 53" I need to know if this is an 8 3/4 that can be put into a Duster for racing. I don't know if it is clutch or cone because it has never been opened.

Mine is also mounted on my radiator, it is different than everything else I have seen on here but uses those black tie things to tie it to the radiator, you can use two rubber hoses and run them to the transmission and then clip your metal lines to fit the hoses over them. Make sure you use two...

The rear bands might not be releasing, I had to have mine fixed last summer. It was not shifting easy at all but is all better now. Good luck with your tranny problem and keep us posted..

DarTT beat me to the punch on that one, and I heard that about the 4spd at the local shop.. this kind of has me sold on going to a 4spd.. cost is not an issue I dont plan on having everything done at once.. this will happen when I am done with school.. But I do intend on collecting what I need...

It is going to go behind a 408 stroker, and more than likely an 8.75 with highway gears. I have heard that 4spds. are weak? I would like a manual car, I know there is an 833OD in a dart lite in ft scott, but idk if the guy will part with it.

No info at all? Are there manual 904's?

I have to chang out my 904 when I go to small block, my question is.. Is the 4 speed better than a 904 for small block? I know I would have to put in a hump, and change the pedals, but other than that, would anything else need to change?

742 case is nice because you can swap things around in there, 741 will work but not what you call gold. 489 and 742 are highly sought after. Be aware of the clutch and cone style, clutch can be rebuilt, so no one is ever willing to sell them, when they do they sell so fast that no one even sees...
