    Electric vacume pump

I think some people are using the used pump from a saab or volvo with success. One version or the other has a built in vacuum pressure regulator so, self regulating.

Should a sticky/write up be made?

Who is officially in charge of the thread? What are the rules to the thread? The incharge person decides what is relevant and irrevelant info? I think it is a good idea to consolidate all the upgrade to front end BBP / 73 up disc or 73 up and 11.75 rotor upgrades info into one thread. Lots...

    Pin Calipers Pictures?

Thank you for the replies folks. Happy 4th of America btw. :) It appears there are little clips. Any recommendations for buying them on rock auto? It is a bit less than clear on which are the right calipers and associated hardware. I have been on there several times but cant exactly figure...

    Pin Calipers Pictures?

Well, anyways. I am on rock auto buying front wheel bearings and seals and calipers (pin type) Any recommendations on calipers? I should have just saved the ones off the donor car but didnt. I have the factory pins and they look good. So, I think I am looking for loaded calipers or...

    Pin Calipers Pictures?

Anyone have a set of pictures of pin calipers installed, from several angles? I am curious how the pads interface with the pins and the caliper to the caliper bracket. Mainly interested in the strength of these. I do not have my parts assembled yet, lacking calipers and pads, and am a bit...

Rotors blasted and painted, run or turn the paint off?

Im going to run it. 10 dollar cheapo pads, tool around a little on the gravel road, then chuck the pads into the creek to help with turtle fertility cycle. Then I am putting on EBC yellows or maybe green if the yellows are too much.

Rotors blasted and painted, run or turn the paint off?

I painted them so they wouldn't rust around the fins and essentially the whole thing.. Minus the pad contact area of course, cause that will normally stay shiny due to braking.

Rotors blasted and painted, run or turn the paint off?

I blasted bare, degreasee with alcohol and painted my rotors with vht header paint. Baked them slowly up to temp and slowly cooling at 250 then 500 degrees. I like it pretty decently. So, should I turn the rotors to get the paint off the contact area, or run them with cheap pads for a while...

Drum vs Disc, Power vs non Power

Oh, I totally think if you can get on the road by freshening up the drum system rather than spending money and time that is needed elsewhere then let er roll.

Drum vs Disc, Power vs non Power

My opinion: The higher the speed and longer duration braking demands better design and quality of parts. The drum design is flawed because it pushes outward on a thin cast iron sleeve - combined with high heat causes problems when put in severe conditions. Add splashing water on there while...

    Uhhhh....parts not rusting?

Any update on what you did to thwart rust of your brake hardware inside your drums?? I am seriously considering: http://www.caswellplating.com/electroplating-anodizing/zinc-plating-kits.html Copycad zinc and I am getting the blue and black chromate. Then I can do bolts and also items that...

    11 3/4 brakes

Hey, so, you have a thicker rotor than the b body? You have a larger caliper than b body? Sounds like you have better fade resistance.

    11 3/4 brakes

In the last pic, there is noting supporting the outer pad, other than the pins. Does the caliper support the pads?

    Uhhhh....parts not rusting?

Well, I hear you on that one. I hate painting parts where the paint will wear or melt off quickly making your blasting and painting null quickly. I have used Caswell's metal blackening kit which is basically: blast part, decrease part, soak in a solution to blacken it, rinse, dry, then soak...

Would everyone be against using Mustang II disc brakes?

I would not use mustang II anything on anything. Its all made for a lightweight fubar. Just an opinion but like all hardware made heavy duty for years of abuse. Mad Max style .

I have a booster, the bracket and all the parts off my 74 duster, you can have it for the cost of shipping if needed. I am goin manual. I drove the car this year up and down the highway several times for hours, to me the whole brake system worked well, just too sensitive for me. Was like pushing...

    Manual brakes suck!!!

I had 11" drums front and rear on my coronet (thats what my friend told me when I bought it from him). I know they were quite big and wide. Worked excellent for normal driving. Dont know if they would work at 180 mph in a curve. Manual brakes, excellent feel and response.

Disc brakes from 79 cordoba on a 74 scamp??

Your existing upper A arms and lower control arms will work (73 up), the Volare spindles will work. The spindles will have / accommodate the 10.5 inch rotors (and caliper brackets). You will have to get grade 8 fine thread bolts and nuts to attach your A body lower ball joints to the spindles...

Disc brakes from 79 cordoba on a 74 scamp??

HI 74Scamp, regarding your Cordoba spindles, I have the same application already in place.. I have a 73 duster that came with drum fronts. I chunked the front drum spindles off a cliff at some environmentalists.. (just kidding I like air), now I read here that people want them.. The upper...
