360 la headers & straight pipe

Look at it this way; millions of race cars over the years have no mufflers. I'b be willing to bet there's a good reason for that. :)

360 la headers & straight pipe

The OP seems to have vanished, but I'll take a shot... I can't imagine wanting a car to be as loud as possible, considering all of the negative attention it would draw. Not to mention the negative physical effects on your body. But, if you want noise, run zero exhaust. Nothing, I mean even...

Headers with Schumacher /6 to v8

Matt, the Schumacher mounts hold the engine in the factory location. Any header designed for the application will fit. (Be careful about that 5204 I mentioned.) If your engine is mostly stock, the 1 5/8 headers will be what you want. They are routed differently than the 5204's that didn't...

Headers with Schumacher /6 to v8

I just used Hooker 5204's. They fit fine with the exception the steering. They weren't made for 73 and up steering. They're 1 3/4 dia., so they're routed different than the 1 5/8's. Hooker 5204 Problem

    Hooker 5204 Problem

I used to think that denting tubes hurt power. But a couple years ago, I saw a test somewhere that showed it doesn't hurt. I don't remember where I saw that. It's done now. I had to take it out 4 times to whack it, to be sure it was damaged enough. lol I used a 48 ounce "Ford Tool". Yes...

    Hooker 5204 Problem

I'm denting them. The idler arm and pitman arm are different between 72 and older, and 73 up. I'm not even sure you can get a center link. (other than used, of course)

    Hooker 5204 Problem

Ya learn something new every day. I didn't see this coming. lol Thanks abdywgn. Good ideas. Like you say YR, why would they change that? I like the trough idea, but all I have is mig, and I don't think I could do it with out burning through. The other tube doesn't need much.

    Hooker 5204 Problem

I put the 360 in my 74 Dart Sport (cloned into a 70-71 Duster) last weekend using Schumacher mounts (it's a slant car). The engine seems to be sitting fine, so I don't think it's a mount problem. They're 1 3/4. I have the pass header in. On the dr side, all the bolts are in, but the pitman and...

    Header Size Recommendation

Also, what is cool about these headers, is that they're vintage, and never been used. The directions sheet tells how to send away for spare gaskets. No internet, no website mentioned, whenever they were made. I wonder if they were made better then? They have the "HOoker" stamp around the...

    Header Size Recommendation

Aside from the performance benefits, I think headers are the sexiest looking performance part there is. I even like drawing them. :-)

Got them yesterday. It'll be a while before I put them in. I want to finish the engine and lay the headers in before the motor goes in.

    Header Size Recommendation

I hear ya. I was tempted to go w/ 1 5/8. Soooo much cheaper. But I'd rather have this run better than it looks, so the money (what there is) is going to the power, as opposed to the looks, at least for now. I weighed the stock bumpers and brackets, etc. on mine. 160lbs!!! Now that it's an...

Thanks, bought the 5204's. No big money for this project. No Pipemax. This is just a low dollar toy. -I read about the low tubes. I'll watch for it. -I agree, no shorties for this one! -The rear I got out of the D150 is a 9" w/ welded ladder bars and coil overs. It's about 2" narrower than...

Back from the dead... I just bought these: Dodge 318 360 5.2 5.9 NEW Stainless Steel Racing Headers Magnum 5.2L 5.9L Dakota | eBay (Link reads wrong, but goes to Hooker 5204's that I bought.) I've had searches saved on CL and eBay; not much has popped up, till now. I almost went with TTI's...

    Header Size Recommendation

I ran Stock Eliminator in the 90's, and yes, the tubes were getting bigger then. Our 440 6 pack had 1 7/8 tubes because we got them super cheap, but other 440's had 2" on them. Step headers were just coming around. They were a lot of money and my partner and I didn't know any one that picked...

Lots of threads on Headers, but how about one more quick one!

I built a 69 big block Dart in the 80's. It had Hooker fenderwells, I think they were the only ones available. Yeah, they limited front tire size. One great thing though, was the easy access to everything underneath without those damned things in the way. In general, I remember reading that...

    Header Size Recommendation

I am leaning towards the 1 3/4 myself. I kinda figured I don't have a length choice. That Hooker 5303 doesn't come up anywhere. But if it's a 1 7/8, I think that's a bit much; I'd rather err to the small side. I should've checked the stall more carefully. When I took the truck apart (2008), I...

I have a 74 Dart Sport (that I'm cloning into an early Duster). I have the following from a D150 that I bought for parts: -360, 11.2:1 actual compression, 292,.508 Mopar cam, ported heads w/ 2.02 intakes and 1.60 exhausts (I don't remember the casting number, they're in storage right now.)...

Thrush welded turbo muffler on my V-6 Dakota

I used that resonator, or glass pack trick too. I hated to do it. I like simple. But, whatcha gonna do sometimes? It seems some mufflers are more like megaphones. I'm a V-8 guy. Six cylinder engines should be seen and not heard. (Sorry, just my opinion, and we know what they are like!)

    Dougs headers idiot tech support

Aftermarket stuff that doesn't fit, work correctly, or is not designed right has been my biggest complaint about the hi-po parts aftermarket industry the entire time (35 years) I've been a hot rodder. It seems they know that they'll still sell parts, so "who cares". I always go into a project...

    muffler choices

This is 'ZACKLY correct! Everybody likes to talk mufflers, but a car with out tail pipes is LOUD!
  24. SpeedThrills

Anyone remember or use "Sonic Turbo" mufflers?

This is purely subjective, but I agree with green1 about the sound of side exhaust. You're only hearing half of the engine when you're close to the car. I never liked that effect.

    Thinking of exhaust mod

FWIW, Summit sells cross-over kits. You have to hope it'll line up nicely, and they bolt in w/ clamps. Also, this link is to the best exhaust article I ever read. David Vizard writes some good stuff. http://www.superchevy.com/technical/engines_drivetrain/exhaust/0505phr_exh/index.html

    Purple Horny Mufflers

How come a loud Harley is ok w/ the Po-lease, but a loud car gets you a ticket? (Nothing against Harley's- or the Police.) I can't handle a loud daily driver, but the "Internal Combustion Orchestra" should be heard on a weekend cruiser.
