Front "China wall" sealing issue on SBM

First time I put my RPM on my 340 I didn't get enough RTV to fill the china walls. Yes it's a big gap, that's why I just used the cork gaskets there. Cleaned the area real good and put the RTV on the wall and bottom side of gaskets and let sit over night. That way they won't squirt out and hold...

Front "China wall" sealing issue on SBM

I use cork, RTV in down on the block and let it set up overnight. Then RTV the top of cork and I lightly put some on intake and don't forget the corners.

    340 timing chain cover leak

Called Superformance Products today (super nice people) and they gave me good advice. No RTV glue or anything just maybe some wheel bearing grease, silicone grease to allow to align bolt holes. He said he has a race car with a badly pitted cover and it still sealed with this gasket. My first...

    340 timing chain cover leak

Those bolts didn’t bottom out. I for sure checked that out and torqued properly. The leak was left side towards the top but I will check again. Thanks

    340 timing chain cover leak

Great but I would to know about these gaskets. Lol Do I or do I not slap some kind of crap on them? Better yet maybe I’ll just call Superformance. The wife never could understand why I never read the directions. As Andy Griffith once said, “Just call the man, Aunt Bea”.

    340 timing chain cover leak

Yes, did put RTV on the bolts and think the cover looked good but will recheck that again for sure. So to be clear, no RTV on these gaskets?

    340 timing chain cover leak

Had a gasket leak after using a paper gasket so I bought both timing chain and water pump gaskets from Superformance Products. These are their MP-15 rubberized gaskets that are supposed to be reusable. Guess I can't use RTV or anything like it. Heard you just use silicone grease. Think I may...

    340 7-blade fan rivet missing

This H code Demon was a drag car when I got it and came with the fixed fan. I figured if it worked for him, I would just leave it. Since I'm replacing it now, I'm on the fence as well with the factory radiator.

    340 7-blade fan rivet missing

Sounds like replacing is the best, I probably knew that just wanted a few more thoughts. Thanks guys, not worth the worry.

    340 7-blade fan rivet missing

No cracks that I can see, got it down to bare metal.

    340 7-blade fan rivet missing

Cleaning up for paint and noticed a rivet missing. Looks like it was missing for awhile. The blade feels firm so run it, or figure a way to fix, or replace? I’m sure the factory didn’t leave it out for balance.

Woodruff key found in the bottom of a 340 with 7qt. pan

Yeah, figured it's probably ok but will put an eyeball on it anyway. I was debating about throwing a new water pump on it. This answered that decision. The 7qt. pan is an aftermarket mopar and it is scraped up pretty good on the bottom but I'm taking it back to factory except for the Doug's...

Woodruff key found in the bottom of a 340 with 7qt. pan

Your right, I knew that but it still sucks. So much for a quick change over. After I'm done with the whining, I'll get on it. Thanks.

Woodruff key found in the bottom of a 340 with 7qt. pan

It's the cam key. Sounds like I have to see if one is in the cam front end. If so I assume someone dropped one by mistake but how could it run without one. The timing would be way off.

Woodruff key found in the bottom of a 340 with 7qt. pan

Ok here goes, I've installed a few big block Chevy cams in the past and never seen a key like this before. I found one in the bottom of the 7 quart pan and no metal filings with it. Can't see how one could come out. The 340 was running when bought. Maybe the builder dropped one by mistake...
