The distributor gear is decoupled and with the clothes hanger wire with a hook on the end I was able to lift it all the way up to the top but couldn’t get it through the opening because the gear is too big with the hanger at the side of it. It looks like it’s a tight fit to come out that hole. I...

OK then. I will work on it again tomorrow and see what I can accomplish.

My telescoping magnet was not strong enough to lift the gear out. I already have it loose, but it still won’t come out the hole in the top. I’m going to go to the auto parts store and see if I can buy another one or maybe a stronger magnet. Does it matter what orientation the gear is in when you...

By the way, I got all the spark plugs out and shot oil and marvelous mystery oil into all the cylinders and let it set for a a few days, maybe a week, but I can’t turn the engine.

Alright guys, how do you get the cam gear and intermediate shaft out of the engine? I took a coat hanger and put a hook on the end of it and I got the gear lifted up to the opening, but I couldn’t pull it through because the gear is too big with the wire over the end of it. So how do you do it...

Rumble fish: Forgive me OP if I am hijacking, but since you know and I don’t know I thought I would ask. How exactly do you prime the oiling system? I have a 318 engine that’s in a car that has about 3000 miles on it but it has been sitting for about four or five years. Do I need a specific...

Do I go with the 318 or the 360?

If you can get either engine for the same price. Do the 360. It's more displacement and more power and torque, and it's the same amount of work to put either 360 or 318 in. I was originally going to say the only advantage of a 318 was that it would be cheaper, but not if it's putting out a lot...

    318 won't stay running

I think it's time to check the fuel filter and then the fuel pump and pick-up tube. Are you getting continuous flow of fuel to the carb?

    Which engine?

I vote for getting car number one running and driving with the original 273. I would drive it as a beater daily driver while working on car number 2 and restore that one. I'm kind of all into having as many Mopars that run as I can.

318 running like a top, then just stopped

When my car did that it was a bad coil. I also had a problem with a ballast resister that was similar to that. the car heats up and gets real hot under the hood and then those electrical componets don't work properly.

    Gettin frustrated

Two things come to mind. A temporary throttle stop on the carb to keep it from opening too far and doing something different to keep that cable in place. Just take some time away from the car and think about getting the lokar cable fixed. Call the company for advise, even if you dont follow it.
