    Plastic model kit

It's not new tooled. It's a long overdue repop of the MPC molds with new decals. I'm looking forward to bashing the body & interior tub with the chassis and driveline of the AMT '71 Duster.

Anyone got a few spare swastikas kicking around?

Robbed that kit out of the dumpster, eh? Sorry-obligatory cheap shot at Starfix, a company that really kinda deserves it :p How 'bout this one? Not sure what I picked off it but it's 99% complete and plenty of extras for a second build:

Anyone got a few spare swastikas kicking around?

I'm done building BF-109s and have a rather thick stack of leftover decals I'm not going to use. Which variant or kit is it? I'll bet I can scare up something interesting.

    wheel backs

When I was a kid I used to cut up leftover wheels to use as wheel backs. Didn't care what they looked like as much as I did if it rolls-or just holds the tire on the wheel.

    Did l screw up ?

Focus in downtown Fond du Lac was still open and selling kits in Dec. '20. And there's a hobby shop on the west end of Madison in a strip mall-the name escapes me now but I found it in a google search. Beyond Hobby Town USA in Oshkosh I don't know if there are still any shops open in the valley...

    Did l screw up ?

Yes they are. The hobby saw a pretty significant resurgence over the last year with so many people stuck at home. Retailers have been reporting this since last June or so. A significant factor is Gundam/Sci-Fi and war gamers. Kids are eating this stuff up.

    Working on my ship.

Nice. My kitchen table is currently covered with mast assembly for my build. Replacing the smaller plastic parts with wood so it can withstand the stresses from rigging. Built the Cutty Sark many years ago and found the worst part was keeping everything from bowing and bending.

    glues, fillers and paints

Super glue doesn't have the shear strength to hold parts under any kind of stress together. It also dries harder than styrene so oversanding the plastic around the join can be an issue. Some guys use the thicker CA as a filler but you have to catch it at just the right time in the setting action...

facebook has some pages for selling kits as well-both auction pages and straight sale.

    My model waiting list

Get him the Tamiya kit. It's reasonably price if you shop a little and it's a much better fit, and nothing makes for an ugly experience like an ill fitting kit.

Anyone ever made a replica of their own car?

This is the only half-way decent pic I can find of an old build-my first Duster, 1/25 AMT. The real one was a '70, 318/4 speed. The model still exists, buried in storage. The grill is a resin replacement as the kit comes with a shark tooth grill. Here's my on again-off again build of my...

Hasegawa 1/48 P-51D. My first time with Alclad on the fuselage: Monogram 1/48 TBD-1 Devastator as Joe Taylor's ride for the Lae-Salamaua raids on 10 March 1942:

    Any model builders here?

1/25 AMT 1969 Barracuda, done as a Formula S 340. Engine from a '73 or '74 Dart Sport or Duster or whatever release of the molds. Wheels & hubcaps are aftermarket resin: 1/25 1972 Barracuda. This is the MPC "Hemi Cuda" kit with hood & bumpers from Revell's 1970 Barracuda kit, wheels from...

    72-74 Cuda

The one molded in yellow was a snap together kit. I have to wonder if they trashed the molds to make it as the "Hemi Cuda" boxing hasn't been re-released for quite a long time.

    Winter... so... started buying

Keep an eye on Round 2. They've been re-releasing a lot of old AMT/MPC kits including drag cars (and dragsters, I see), and they're competitively priced compared to what other manufacturers are releasing these days. Alclad is a pretty hot commodity with us aeromodelers. I've yet to try it but...

    OldProNova..

Wrapped this one up not too long ago. AMT's '32 Ford Vicky, done as a stock 1932 Ford Victoria. My third go-around with this kit and the first time I've avoided the lure of the mag wheels and did it stock: '69 'cuda on the bench now to be a 340 Formula S. And why do all model companies...

    Winter time model building thread.

I've been building my way through the stash in themes, and the theme here since last August has been The Great War. With over 20 in the stash that qualify and the time it takes to rig them, I suspect I won't finish them until long after the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day and with the 1:1...

I've kinda wandered away from the shake & bake stuff too, but it wasn't about expense; I'm liking the challenge of the limited run stuff which can be just as pricey. Like Classic Airframes: Or old Eduard: But my favorite plane is only available in 1/48 from the fellas from Morton Grove: Ken
