A body 4 speed in a truck. Can this be done?

The floor cut is pretty straightforward- just an oval. The "bump" is a piece of thick, molded plastic that also accepts the boot flange. Would be pretty simple to put back if necessary.

A body 4 speed in a truck. Can this be done?

I have two D-100 trucks that came from the factory with a 225 engine and 833 OD trans. A 1980 and a 1987. Both use the front shifter mount, and both use a flat plate (that can't be too hard to fabricate) to mount the shifter to the mount location. IIRC the actual shifter mechanism sits...

    A833 in GM trucks?

I think they had them earlier than the 80's. A long time ago, I drove a 1970, 30 series chevy flatbed with one. It was the easiest big-ish truck to drive. Shifted like "butta". I think the BH is not too terribly difficult to use, there's a guy with a web page about putting a Mopar 833 OD...

    A833 OD shift mechanism

I fitted a 71-74 B body lever set (the set for the bench seat mounting point) to an OD unit from a truck. Flipping the 3-4 lever worked just fine.

    4 speed fitment

If you happen to have one. That adapter looks like about 4 hours of work and maybe could be made more simply without the stand-offs. The 71-74 B "no console" adapter is very close to the A body location as well.

    4 speed fitment

Here's a fairly easy to make shifter mount that uses the B/E shifter pad to put it in the A body location. B/E body four-speed in an A-body Then it's "just" a shorter drive shaft, right?

Isn't the forward shifter mount position the same?

    75-76 Aluminum 833 4 speed Overdrive trans questions ?

Time to mention again that I have one behind a 1969 440 in a truck. The factory rated the non-HP 1969 440 at 350 gross HP and a previous owner installed a mild upgrade cam and truck headers. My guess is it's close to or slightly more than the 375 HP of the factory HP engines. I have no idea if...

    Big block/3 on the tree?

Nope, three speed manual. Floor shifted, though. Many were built that way and of those many were converted to four speed. Also interestingly, until 1971, you couldn't get a small block with a four speed manual or three speed manual with floor shift in a B body! Even though the three speed...

    Big block/3 on the tree?

Road Runners and Super Bees (383 until the 340 in 71) standard equipment was a 3 speed manual. If you wanted a 4 speed or an auto, you paid more.

    Removable floor hump.

Interesting both of mine do. 1980 and 1987. Both are NP 833 OD. That's why I bought them.

    Removable floor hump.

I guess I assumed the OP was talking about a manual transmission, since auto floor shift doesn't use a "hump", and most everything is already accessible from above.

    Removable floor hump.

72-80 trucks have removeable, plastic shifter humps.

    OD trans

Have you checked for chrome updates? There have been a rash of them lately. I manage about 100 chromebooks at work. We had at least three updates in the past 2 months and if they were "sitting on" an update, strange things would happen, like not printing, or not being able to reply to emails...

    OD trans

What are the gear ratios in 3 speeds? I have heard they are the same as the OD unit. The one issue that occasionally bothers me is that it seems there are more 2-3 (cross-gate) shifts than a traditional 4 speed. If the ratios are the same, those shifts would be on the same side driving a 3...

    A833 overdrive V8 bellhousing?

Opening up the bell housing can get into the fork pivot mounting holes. Turning down the bearing retainer can get into the mounting bolt holes for that. Depends on exactly what you have and the measurements and bolt locations of the above. I've heard of swapping the retainer, bit IIRC that...

    A833 overdrive V8 bellhousing?

I'm running an 833 OD behind a '69 440 with a mild cam upgrade, in a 1980 short bed D100. No issues. Not a daily or even weekend driver but when it does got driven, it gets some thrashing. Kinda hard not to. I've been told by members on FxBO that the splits are the same as an NP 3 speed, and...

    A833 overdrive V8 bellhousing?

Just an FYI- those SB OD bell's were also made with NO casting number. The one I have just has a series of blank rectangles.

Is an 8 1/4", 2.45:1 diff housing exclusive?

8 1/4 came from the factory behind 400-2 barrel Cordobas. If you've ever tried to move one, the 8.25 weighs a LOT less than the 8.75. In a street car with a moderate engine, that's less weight to pull around. I wonder how an 8.25 stacks up against a 10 bolt gm axle?

Is an 8 1/4", 2.45:1 diff housing exclusive?

@SGBARRACUDA 80% of the yards I frequent are actually closer to you- Tampa, Clearwater/Largo, and St Pete LKQ, and what used to be Big 3.

Is an 8 1/4", 2.45:1 diff housing exclusive?

What I'm talking about is using an M (or F) body housing (again, I still see several of these every year), and a 1996 or earlier Dakota carrier and 3.55 gear set (I still see several of these yearly as well, but have not verified gears), retaining the 27 spline M body axle shafts.

Is an 8 1/4", 2.45:1 diff housing exclusive?

I see about a dozen or more Dakota's every time I go junk yarding. I even see M and sometimes F bodies as well. (Saw one last month and got the power trunk release) I haven't seen anything with an 8 3/4 in over 10 years and that was a 68 C body. It would be nice to know if you could build a...

Their CAD pics look to be the same case between TKO and TKX but with ancillary items cleaned off. Not sure how much extra room that's gonna give.
