I just ran through this whole thread again. Now that we're down to the "end" (there's always things to be done) I want to thank everyone for their support, advice, and, for some of you, parts. At the beginning of this resto we were told to buy another car and start from scratch. Frankly we...

I don't know, probably just paint up to them in order keep the continuity. The bumpers will cover a lot of it. It'l be something we'll think about later. Right now WE JUST WANT TO DRIVE IT!!!...lol

If you're asking about the ones on the car we're not parting it out..lol. I couldn't tell you where we git ours. Probably the Nats. They're not repops. I had to clean them up and repaint the black in them.

    What does it cost?

Even before we started our resto people would ask if our car was for sale, I would respond "Yep, 1 million dollars". The would say, 'that car's not worth that much', and I reply "It is to me". There more to these cars than market value.

Got the badging and stripes on! Man, it's amazing how much those stripes make the car pop. Crappy garage pics but once we get her washed and waxed and outside I'll post the 'finished' pictures. Six and a half long years, self doubt and doubt from others down the drain!

Where did you get the MEK? I didn't think you could get it anymore. I remember washing my hands in it back in '89 in the Air Force. Any way, I, like you, just came up with a way to fix it. It sounds like yours were in a lot worse shape than mine. I still have a bunch of grille pieces parts and...

Yes, when we first got the car we thought it was B-5 so we had the wheels painted. THEN we found out it was B-7. My dad was talking about painting the wheels but I think it looks good with them a little different color.

Well, I can't resist a sneak peek. The painter we found is awesome. Anyone in Southwest Ohio area should use this guy. He cleaned up the body work for us and you can tell he cares about what comes out of his shop. ANYWAYS, here's the first coat pics he sent us. She's is gonna be BEAUTIFUL!!!

So....something that has been bugging us for a long time.....there was a huge gap between the top of the vent windows and the window seal. We noticed it a couple of years ago and figured we'd worry about it later. Well, it's later and we sat for weeks trying to figure out how to bridge the gap...

OK, I'm back. The last year has been spent travelling alot. I need to find my new pics but here's an update: We've got the interior in and the motor in and running. Unfortunately my paint job revealed some crappiness in our body work. We've realized we need to have someone finish up the body...

Ok, after a few days to think about it here are a few more questions: 1- Obviously it is bad news to break through the clear but I have to in order to make the repairs to the body work. So after I make the repairs I then prime over the repair ensuring I prime over the surrounding clear that has...

I primed it a few weeks ago, scuffed it and put a light layer of primer on before I painted like the tech sheet said to do. Do I need to sand off all the clear to put down more base after I fix the body work?

Can I spray base over the clear coat or do I need to sand the whole car down?

I'm using a HVLP gun but i don't have a gauge at the gun so I'm guessing at the pressure. I'm gonna get a gun with a pressure gauge so when I re-shoot the bad parts it'll come out better. Also a gun with a smaller tip. I use the tech sheets as much as I can. They're a lot of help Thanks for...

it's up around 30 psi. I used the hood as a test panel and it seemed to come out pretty good. Frankly, I'm not sure about the PSI at the gun. I just set the compressor at about 40 psi and adjust at the gun until I get what I think is working well. Also, I think the tip I used was too big. I...

I wouldn't mind putting on another coat of clear just to be safe. How should I prep it for the fourth coat?
  29. afbill

    69 Cuda resto

Well, went ahead and painted today. 3 coats of base and 3 coats of clear. The color brought out some bad parts in the body that didn't come out through the primer so a couple spots will have to be reworked and I had 2 runs in the clear BUT, other than that it looks pretty damn good.

Ok!!! I've decided to try to paint the car myself so now I'm so scared I've lost my mind. I've trying to read up as much as possible on how to do it but there are as many ways to do it as there are painters! I redid the body work where it was needed and now I'm ready to prime again. Can I...
