    Side Pipes - 74 Duster

I did it on a 73 nova back in the 70's. Wouldn't do it again. I ended up hating them them. The wife swore at me everytime she go out.

    What kind of header gaskets??

I have Percys on everything. Haven't had a bit of problems. The Duster has the collector and cyl. head gaskets. Put them on with special dual locking washers from Fastenal. They don't back out.

    exhaust cutouts, worth it?

I have an X set up on the Duster. It's a Summit weld up kit I bought. Then put the cut outs after the X like the Pypes brand. I also have elect. valves on them. Lots of fun going past those ricers with them open.

    " .. which ones work better .."

I have Percy's on the Duster. They work great. As far as cutting flanges. Isn't 3-5 on the same flange and 4-6 also. Don't get the 1-3& 5-7. 2-4&6-8. I can see cutting the whole flange asm between the outer ports and the center ones so to cut down the chance of leaks if it's warped.

    X pipe vs H pipe

With an X pipe you do get more HP and Tq. I have felt it in the Duster. Tryed open headers at the strip, then used my new X pipe set up. The exhaust open just by the bend to the mufflers. Lower ET and sure felt like more Tq.

Go to pypesexhaust.com site Judge for yourself.

x-pipe and exit in front of rear tires?

One more thing on the X pipe. It helps to pull the exhaust out due to the cross flow. Pypes exhaust has a web site and has all the stuff on it.

x-pipe and exit in front of rear tires?

When I put the X pipe on the Duster I got alot more low end torque. Vs. the H pipe. I put the x just behind the trans. Then used the 2 1/2 in. dumps from Jegs. Put them in before the mufflers. This way when I go to the strip all I have to do is open them up to run. I still run a full...

    X or H?

I orignally had a H pipe on the Duster. I switched over to the X just for the performance gains. Yes, it did help low end torque and I think it made the exhaust quieter. I have not had any humming as was said and it got rid of the drown I had inside. I think it is a win/ win deal.

cut outs don't make the cut

i got a set from Jegs. Put them on my orignal bolt up cut outs. Haven't had any leaks. When I first put them on I didn't hold the button long enough to close them. Now i just hold it for just a second or two to make sure. They don't leak when closed. They were the cheaper ones. Think I...

Bark too much for bite! Which Muffler?

Yes, you do need to take the exhaust out the back. That alone would help. If the mufflers are the orignal 40's, they are alot louder then the newer 40 series deltaflows. Try installing some tail pipes first then go from there. I have the delta flows on the Duster with no problems. How...

    Cut exhaust pipe...

The tool companys make a chain style cutter. check with the part stores. They may carry them also. I have one that I use at work. It gives a very clean cut. Or you could use a hack saw.

    Cutouts

I have an X pipe on the Duster. I put the cut outs after the X in the exhaust. Before the mufflers. Mine bolt like yours. It only takes a couple of minutes. That way you get the full effect of the torque with the X.

I need some GOOD header gaskets

I used the Percy collector gaskets on the Duster when I changed to the X pipe. I'm going to use there header gaskets when I change out the headers this winter. The collector gaskets are great. If the header gaskets are half as good I'll be happy. Check with your local parts store. You...

    x and h pipes

I found alot more torque after I put on the X pipe. I had an H pipe set up before. I think it's worth about 2 tenths at the strip.

    Just got my FlowTech headers

Yeah. There coated. Almost look like chrome. My boss thought they were chromed. It's time for a new set. They are so rusty, I don't know what's holding them together. Think I've been losing points at shows because of them. They sure look pretty.

    Just got my FlowTech headers

Got them at the shop today. Opened them up. They look just like the Hookers that are on the Duster now. I eye balled them just to see how the looked. The top ends, by the heads have the same contours. This almost looks like a straight bolt in to me. That will be good. Hope the collector...
