64 Valiant Radiator leaking at top

a good radiator shop should be able to fix it

    Just TOO cool

thermostats are notoriously inaccurate, as are gauges to a lesser extent first you need to verify the accuracy of your gauge then you need to find an accurate thermostat

    I just don't get it..

water pump doesnt make any pressure, just circulates the coolant, there is pressure when ever the engine is hot, that is why you should NEVER open a radiator cap when it is hot, the resulting loss of pressure will spray scalding hot coolant on you, painful trip to the emergency room will result...

    I just don't get it..

BINGO! older radiators had room to allow for expansion newer ones dont, so they need an expansion or overflow tank, it also works better this way

    I just don't get it..

it should hold pressure from getting out but let coolant be sucked back in also 13 to 16 psi is not a lot of pressure, you can create a LOT more than that squeezing a hose with your hand,

    I just don't get it..

un like air or other gas a liquid will not compress, but it will expand and contract with temperature so if your cooling system is full when it heats up the expanding liquid coolant needs to go somewhere and if the radiator cap didnt let it escape it would burst the radiator

    I just don't get it..

the higher the PSI the higher the boiling point of the coolant it does not affect expansion of the coolant though

    I just don't get it..

it is doing exactly what it is supposed to do, that is why having an overflow works better, when it gets hot the coolant expands and goes into the overflow, when it cools down the coolant contracts and the vacuum sucks it back into the radiator refilling it

Overheating wowes that make no sense - help!!!

tuning can cause an engine to run hot, and as 1970Duster said if the block has been filled it is only usable as a race motor

Overheating wowes that make no sense - help!!!

mixed matched pulleys and water pump can cause overheating problems if the water pump moves the coolant to fast, it doesnt have enough time in the radiator to cool off, if the water pump is flowing to slowly the coolant isn't removing the heat from the engine fast enough I have also had...

    clogged block I'm thinking

    318 is not hot enough

as 72plymouth said check the gauge it may not be reading correctly, or your thermostat may be defective opening too early at 150 degrees instead of 180
