Think my pinion bearing is going south...

Thanks for the comments, guys Rear bearing in the trans...that's a thought. I haven't been able to exactly diagnose how far forward/backward the sound is coming from...I'm just assuming it's from out back, ut I guess this is possible. How easy is that to replace on an 904? I've never...

Think my pinion bearing is going south...

Since I got back from Wyoming, I've noticed a soft hum (only when the windows are up and the radio is off) above 40 mph. It changes pitch based on speed, and it's there most only on deceleration. Does that sound like a pinion bearing to you? It doesn't seem like its getting louder, and I've...

Getting ready to ditch the 7.25...

Oh, crap...I will have to shorten it? They are the same bolt pattern, so that's a plus at least.

Getting ready to ditch the 7.25...

I finally picked up a 8 3/4" 3.23 open rear to swap in place of my dead 7.25. This is the first I've done anything like this... what do I need to look out for doing this swap? I'm pretty sure the drums on the 8 3/4 are 10", rather than my stock 9" drums...will this be a fitment problem for my...

    Help! with 7 1/4" noise

Well, the news gets worse. Axle is trash. Spider gears are all messed up now, too. Guess I'm going the axle replacement route.

    Help! with 7 1/4" noise

I am still small-bolt, and I plan on staying that way. The 8.25 I'm looking at is also small-bolt, so that's a plus for me at least. I'm thinking about offering $400 and see if he bites on that.

    Help! with 7 1/4" noise

Toying around with some options for replacing the axle. What's a reasonable price for an 3.23 open 8.25 rear? I know a guy selling one for $500, that seems high to me but i dunno.

    Help! with 7 1/4" noise

pm'ed you about the axle. The noise I'm hearing is constant while in motion; it's not load-sensitive. Guess that's indicative of axle bearings?

    Help! with 7 1/4" noise

That's what I'm afraid of... does it sound like a wheel bearing to you? The sound (if my ears hear correctly) seems to come more from the right side, but, again, not sure if I'm hearing that correctly.

    Help! with 7 1/4" noise

Its gotten a lot worse. At first it was just a soft hum when things hadn't warmed up and it usually was gone by the time I got into town. But now, the hum is a lot louder and all the time. I thought at first it could be noise from my snow tires, but I don't think thats the case anymore...
