How To Simplify Parking Brake Cable Routing?

Hey Dibs, sorry to take a left turn here, but after I had frame connectors welded to my '66, we drilled/reamed a hole for the front cable to go through the frame connector on the driver's side. I found the front cable needs to be just a little longer. When I pull the parking brake handle, the...

‘66 Barracuda Brakes Suck — Proportioning Valve Maybe?

UPDATE: Pulled left caliper off, one piston stuck. Got it out and found outer edge of bore rusted, but the inner bore and the piston are in nice shape. Will consider rebuilding both myself or just exchanging them with replacements. Thanks Mattax and all who chimed in!

‘66 Barracuda Brakes Suck — Proportioning Valve Maybe?

Yea, Jim. Mattax said the same thing in post 3 and a spoke to a member on the phone. It might be that the caliper pistons are pushing out enough to slow down the wheels, but sticking some and not giving full bite. That’s my next move, won’t cost anything except some time.

‘66 Barracuda Brakes Suck — Proportioning Valve Maybe?

“Was there also a change in linings? How are the MC lines connected to the prop valve?” They are linings with good, dry material left, I didn’t need to change them. The front line from the MC goes into the factory check valve, then into the proportioning valve. (You can spot the check...

‘66 Barracuda Brakes Suck — Proportioning Valve Maybe?

Formula S, KH discs front, 10” drums rear. Brakes were decent when I bought this car. While going through much of the car, I converted the single pot MC to a new (not rebuilt) dual pot 15/16”. The car does not stop well, no confidence if I have to make a panic stop. Ever since then, I have a...

    New brake system fluid

If you’re drag racing and happy with the DOT3, I say stick with it. If you’re road racing, step up to a DOT4, as it has a higher boiling point. Back in the day, before there was a DOT5, Castrol GT LMA was the hot setup. Castrol GT LMA Brake Fluid 12614/12504

Power Brakes install (65 270 Dart)

Welcome BeetleDart. My two cents...I upgraded from a one pot to a dual master cylinder on my Cuda, which already had a power booster. I went with a 1 1/16” cylinder. The pedal is rock hard, not too happy with it. Will be changing to a 15/16” shortly. Best of luck.

65 Dart: Switching to a dual pot master cylinder

Dog, I did the single to dual pot on my ‘66 which was factory equipped with power discs. I used a 1 1/16” I think it was, definitely bigger than 1”. I regret it, would try something smaller. My two cents...

New brakes, soft pedal, distribution blocks ?

Same here. Went from a single pot power to a double pot power. Thought I calculated it out, but still had a soft pedal. Readjustment of the rod fixed that.

Wow is all I have to say.....Rock Auto

Glad to hear they finally got it right. For what it’s worth,(knock on wood) I’ve used Rock Auto a dozen times, never had a problem, they did send me an alternate Infiniti glass regulator which worked just fine.

Power Booster Question - Pedal Return

Did you use the same push rod? You may need a longer rod if you've changed things around, or if yours is adjustable, lengthen it.

    Kelsey-Hayes up grade

Bill, why would the factory valve be considered "probably not correct for today's tires" than yesteryear's? I'm not disagreeing, I just don't see why there would be any difference.

    Rebleed Master Cylinder?

Pish, Bill, I've adjusted the rear brakes to where there is a noticeable drag on the drums. Redfish, this is a new, not reman cylinder. Calipers are right side up, bleeders at top. For now, my money is on air stuck in the master. I'll report back.

    Rebleed Master Cylinder?

I changed from a single reservoir to a dual reservoir master cylinder on my '66. It's power disc, rear drum. Master was bench bled on a vise, then installed. After all plumbed in, during bleeding the system, the large reservoir went dry, probably sucked some air. I've bled the system with a...

Magnum, Pishta, those look like they are just distribution blocks. Did you also have a proportioning valve plumbed in?

Sorry for this answer Dave, but I've used Booster Dewey twice and his turnaround and price is very reasonable. And you get a free bag of peanut M&M's.

    'Grabby' brakes

Is the replacement master cylinder the same bore diameter as the '73 Swinger you started off with? Smaller diameter, easier to push, easier to lock 'em up.

    '66 A Body Proportioning Valve

Has anyone converted a single pot master cylinder to a dual and used the original Kelsey Hayes Proportioning valve? I plan to route the brake tube from the master cylinder directly into the check valve just below the Proportioning valve. Picture of mine is attached.

Upgrading front drums from 9" to 10"

I dug up this old thread and was wondering if anyone has upgraded from 9" to the 10" front drum setup. Its an easy enough conversion without having to change a bunch of other parts going with discs. But is it worth the effort and few bucks, or is it time and money wasted?

Anyone drilled rotors for better braking?

I autocrossed an Opel Manta years ago. Drilled the rotors in a nice geometric pattern. I noticed ZERO difference. Turned out to be a waste of time.
