    Nitrous on a 340 100 shot

If you are going to do that tuning stuff, get a pin gauge set to measure what is in the carb now, so adjustments can be made based on what you see now. It is an exercise, but, it makes a huge difference when you get it sorted out and right. Pin Gauge set, 61-80 drill set, 1-60 drill set...

    Nitrous on a 340 100 shot

If you can hear detonation, it was already there before being audible. Pull the plugs, look for specks on your porcelain. Specks are usually material shedding off thing that should not be shedding (pistons).

    Nitrous on a 340 100 shot

Was shooting the **** with a friend that runs a bunch of NE stuff. They usually want around 8 psi, so your fuel pump isn't going to cut it from the suppliers perspective.

    Nitrous on a 340 100 shot

Not close to what was written. My comments ONLY have to do with the juice kit. The carb may be just fine at 7 psi. Most juice kits I messed with were in the 5-6 range. If you don't have the kit and instructions, you are asking questions that are in those instructions. There will be a tune...

    Nitrous on a 340 100 shot

What kit? Look at the instructions would be my first suggestion. There will be recommendations on fuel pressure and jet sizing. Just a baseline to consider from running this stuff off and on for 40 years. If the fuel jet is larger than the nitrous jet, it's most likely a FAT tuneup. It...

    Nitrous on a 340 100 shot

If you run 7 psi fuel to the solenoid, the likelyhood of the tune up for juice will be horribly FAT. That is not a good approach. Fat kills parts too.

    Bang for the Buck Thread

After looking some stuff over, that cam in a magnum can make some pretty decent power. Around 1+ hp/ci 350-360hp which isn't bad.

    Bang for the Buck Thread

I'd put that camshaft in my mom's car. If it's a roller, it's so small, I'd sell it and send a mag cam to a grinder for more lift. Unless you are building an engine for a motorhome, I'd use it for a doorstop.

    Still hesitating

Try turning the idle rpm up a little, maybe 700-750. Do this and try driving. Better, worse, no change? After that, try opening up the idle mixtrure screws a 1/8-1/4 turn on each side and see if that helps the stumble. Fatten up the idle a smidge. If 1/4 turn helps, open it another 1/8...

    Its me again lol

Cool, my suggestion. Isolate the intake tract, nothing hooked up, everything plugged off. See if the drop is the same or tightens up. If it tightens up, hook up one thing at a time (preferably one hose it it has a branch set up) until you find the culprit. You should be able to kill the...

    Its me again lol

LAST TIME FOR ME... What is the timing IN GEAR!!!! You may have a situation where timing is dropping out when pulled in gear/lower RPM. THAT CAN NOT HAPPEN. Check it to make sure that idle timing is the same reading in gear and p/n. That much rpm drop is usually from a vacuum leak or...

    Its me again lol

Have you checked the timing with it in gear after the RPM drop? That's a bunch of drop for a small cam and strong vacuum. Try setting the idle at 650 with timing set the same as now and see what reading you get.

    Its me again lol

my 2 cents. 900 rpm in p/n with that cam, something is wrong. It should idle easily at 750-800 maybe less with 14-16* of timing. IMO, you need to get the idle down first. Post 26 makes no sense, more timing means the throttle blades should be closed more, creating greater control by the...

    adding a 2nd PCV valve

Same approach as the cup engines built for restrictor plate tracks having the intake manifold castings so porous that it was a built in vacuum leak. Allows more air into the engine, since the carb was restricted by the plate. Nobody cared what the engine does at idle, just what it does at WOT...

Need a Good Website Calculator for ET to HP

Hits nail on the head... ET is chassis/converter effectiveness MPH is HP (with converter efficiency/slip) Ever seen this? 450hp 3200# car run a 13.00 at 115 with a 2.25 60' time? That's a 11.50 time slip MPH tied up in a 16.00 chassis. ET isn't reflecting what the engine is putting out.

100 shot of nitrous on 360 magnum engine

Who didn't like turning on three units all manually back in the 80's... LOL One on the shifter, horn button and dimmer switch. Kept a person busy. What's a WOT safety switch? Didn't have those either. Used to drive it with the throttle instead of on/offing a button. Too easy to notice...

100 shot of nitrous on 360 magnum engine

Had lots of fun in the 80's with a pin vise and 61-80 bits drilling out spray bars in the low HP kits that weren't adjustable! I remember BB Chevies with the edelbrock canted carb base victor 2R and Torker were a total ***** because some of the holes sprayed right down 4 runners and the other...

Others have mentioned, make darn sure the fuel supply is sufficient. Better to have too much supply and dial it back, than not enough.

100 shot of nitrous on 360 magnum engine

JMO, get an AFR meter. You're giving up a bunch with a vacuum carb as well. That's another soapbox. Pig Rich on a nitrous engine is WORSE than lean. It will run and beat itself to death. Lean it will barf on itself. A little rich is OK. Pig rich which most of the old jetting suggestions...

    nitrous questions .

Solder, not in my book. I'd use weatherpacks so items can be easily removed if necessary. JMO I'd ask the N2O company about where to place your plate if running a spacer.

    Dyno testing a stock(?) 1972 440

Whiplash and thmprs aren't anything new. Been doing the same thing with cams for a lot of years in low compression engines. You get a 108 or shorter LSA and smack it in ahead at 100. Tricks the engine with increased cylinder pressure. Plenty of low compression 360's run damn well with a...

    Timing request 100 shot 360

what plate/system are you running. Just about anything with the fuel jet the same size or larger than the nitrous jet is a fat tune. Unless you are running 3 psi fuel pressure. A base 100 shot is usually in the .047 N and .042 F jetting with 6.5 psi fuel and 900 bottle pressures. Monty...

    Timing request 100 shot 360

Having too much fuel hurts more nitrous set ups than not enough. Not enough, especially at this level, they burp and quit. Too much fuel they hammer EVERYTHING. My 2 cents. Get the car sorted out at the track with max MPH and KNOW where the AF ratio is. You want the same basic ratio when on...

    need tuning help on 340

Get the initial timing and total timing right before you spend 5 minutes adjusting the carb. Timing FIRST!!! 10* is not enough. Only adjustments to mess with on carb are the float level and idle mixture after idle is speed is set. Being a 4 speed makes some of this easier. JMO, a 340 with...
