My Xmas present to myself Came

On second thought. If Santa's helper will be there go ahead and post you address. I'm sure at least 20 guys will be over tomorrow!

My Xmas present to myself Came

Got heated floors? Went right by your "hood"(I94) in Oct. Stopped at MoM for the day. Nice drive from NC. Had a great month of vacation. Can you wait for warmer weather?

    42RH / A-500 in a Duster with pictures.

Couple of quick questions. What kind of shift improvement did you do?(brand) Did you change the 1-2 shift spring to raise it up to 2-3 rpm?

    Tranny Rebuild Help 904

If you have a camera phone take pics as you dissassemble. Book and videos are good but sometimes they leave just a little to the imagination.

    A500 crossmember mods from inside?

The ends of the channel sit on top of the inboard bolt holes of the tranny support. Will that be enough clearance for the OD unit? I can bend another with more flare at the bottom to move farther toward the outboard bolt holes. Or add a second piece on the outboard sides for strength and "oops"...

    42RH / A-500 in a Duster with pictures.

Thanks. By crossmember I was refering to the Chassis component not the trans support(lower) crossmember. When you added the 1/4" support over the tranny how much clearance was left between it and the trans? I'm hoping to do the reinforcement inside through the floor. It will protrude up about...

    A500 crossmember mods from inside?

Let's see if a pic comes through. It's a little wide on the sides but it may have to be to clear tranny. Looks much better looking from the front side. Have good weld fit from the front. I'm thinking some insulation mat will fill in the step so it won't be so unsightly under the carpet.

    A500 crossmember mods from inside?

I have been watching the A500 swap as far as the crossmember mods go. The pictures are great but the clearance after the new pieces are added aren't very clear. About how much clearance is there? I've been working on a plan to do the reinforcement from the inside. Going to use a piece of 1x2...

    OD-id? Anybody got the "list"

The list on page four is a partial. Maybe someone with Hollander access can come up with something.

    42RH / A-500 in a Duster with pictures.

All the pics are a fuzzy as to the tranny clearance to the fabbed in crossmember. Would anyone have a close guesstimate on that? Also dinging in the floorpan ahead of the crossmember was mentioned. Can any of the original crossmember be left in place? I think I have figured out a way to keep...

    OD-id? Anybody got the "list"

I have a couple of A500 variations. One is a 52118015. Somewhere I have a list for all the tranny #'s up to the early 80's. I have not been able to find one for the newer models. Chances are someone on FABO has the list. It and the earlier list would make a good sticky. (hint) Thanks

    Atf-4

Haven't been following your thread so I'll ask. Do you have the kickdown on it or is it a manual valve body? Jackstands and a 300lb guage. Check the line pressure.

    No low governor problem?

Grab you hats. This is going to sound crazy. Way back there was a problem with grounding on the B vans. Insufficient ground caused the current to go the next convenient route. It went through the brake cables back through the drivetrain to the alternator. I did see one worst case victim. The...

    Finally doing the rear axle

Was going to start a new thread on the 8.25 but will pose a question and maybe info to supplement this one. We were following a Nitro today and noticed the width. It looks like it might be about the right width. Don't know the bolt pattern though. It should have discs and a pretty good gear...

    Anyone using a 9 1/4 rear?

Anyone using the 9 1/4? If so how did you shorten it? C clip or different bearings?

9 1/4 Posi- Whats it good for?

When you say it is a little pricey to shorten them how much is that in dollars? I have two of them with 3.55's, at least one of them a posi. It looks like it would be a good upgrade if the shortening was reasonable. Any idea who would shorten them? Thanks, dartjack

    Kinda off topic 727 problem

I have a friend with a Jeep Waggy/727. It has been rebuilt by a tranny shop once. Broke the belville(diaphram) spring. I replaced it for him.I thought I knew the 727 rather well. It broke again. Backed off some of the line pressure on the adj spring. Now it has a weak reverse and no third gear...

Shortening 9 1/4 and mini tubs

I must assume that the 9 1/4 is a forgotten axle. I would have thought otherwise since it is still in use in the trucks.

Shortening 9 1/4 and mini tubs

Has anyone out there shortened a 9 1/4 for a Dart with mini tubs? Can the axles be resplined and C clipped or should they be junked for new ones? C clip eliminators? Just trying to get info for the future of the Dart. I have two of them with posi's and a plain 8 3/4. Strength of the two? Any...

    Transmission Rebuilding 101

Jeep did not use 727 with 904 guts. Jeep by need would use the heaviest available unit. A 998/999 is a 904 with an extra clutch plate for more torque capacity.

    Transmission Rebuilding 101

Jeep did not use 727 cases with 904 parts. A 998 & 999 are 904's with extra clutch plates.

    Transmission Rebuilding 101

Be very careful what you read. Very few, if any, parts interchange between the 904 & 727. The only exception that I know of is the valve body-BUT it must be the same year. Got bitten on that one! Also, check very carefully on shift kit instructions. If it says drill a hole in the case at the...
