Coupe generally means there is a post between the front window and rear where as a hard top has no post. Barracuda whether notchback or fast back are all hard tops.
I hemmed and hawed about whether to go gloss or flat for the side strip on my car. I finally decided on a gloss vinyl stripe. I like the look much better than the flat color and am glad I went that way.
The modern strips are so thin that I have not had any issues with wax build up in the...
Well, 500Duster, that is not the same gasket I have in my car. Mine has a square shape to the outside and is flat up against the body all around except in the corners. When I got the car there was no lock strip installed and the car has no evidence that the pins for the clips were ever there. I...
From what I can see in your pictures the lock strip will push the gasket out towards the body quite a bit.
My 68 Coupe has that style gasket (Steele sells the same gasket for coupes 67-69) and when I got the car there was no lock strip in the groove and I had quite a gap all the way around...
I swear I saw that some one had patch panels which were about the bottom 8" of the door skin for 67-69 Barracudas but I haven't been able to find them.
Like I said before, Evercoat. Go to there web page and pick your poison. They must have 15-20 variations of fillers. I use the Lite Weight, Metal to Metal and Glaze coat.
I made the mistake of spraying urethane primer/filler over some lacquer primer and the urethane caused the lacquer primer to wrinkle up and lift, made a real mess and I am glad it was only in some spots since I had to sand it off to bare metal.
Now when I am doing spot repairs I use SEM self...
Most rattle can primers you buy at chain stores are laquer based and are not compatable with urethane or epoxy primers that would be used for the over all paint job. They will soften, bubble and lift if the urethane/epoxy primer is sprayed over them so they will need to be sanded off before...
All I can say about POR 15 is I used it on my Barracuda back in 98/99 and no new rust has developed where I put it on, it's never pealed or shown any signs of breaking down. I had some left over and used it on the steel bulkhead to my basement then top coated it with red hardware store enamel. I...
If you plan to drive on the street regularly and plan to paint the outside of the car a light color paint under the hood black.
You will likely get a lot of guff about it being a Chevy thing but a good idea is a good idea where it is Chevy or not. A light body color under the hood gets grimmy...
My 03 PT Cruiser is "Electric Blue" though I have never looked for the paint code. It is not the same blue as the B5 from 70's or the B5 they are advertising as an option on the new Challenger. The new Challenger B5 is closer to the 70's color.
BTW, in 68 they called the color "Fire Blue...
My buddy still takes the prize. He reduced the urethane base coat with lacquer thinner and put a 2 coats on the entire car. It dried but wrinkled and crazed over the entire surface. He had to sand it all off.
I wouldn't use Acetone on paint of any kind. It's a pretty active solvent and is the primary ingrediant in nail polish remover. Work quick and flush it right off you can likely get away using it on paint but there is other stuff that will work and have no danger of attacking the paint.
This is the 69 style stripe.
I got it from Performance Car Graphics. They did the custom engine size call out for no addtional cost and they have a boat load of color options. They were also cheaper than Pheonix
Unless it's an epoxy primer it will be hydroscopic, so any areas where it is over bare metal will rust through in short order.
Most of the cars you see these days with a matte finish are painted with a base coat of your color choice then covered with matte clear. You get all the protection...
I use the Evercoat Metal-2-Metal for anything that will be filling a gap or be thicker than 60 thousands. It's just as strong as the fiberglass filled filler, is easier to work with and is water proof unlike regular filler or the glass filled stuff.
If you plan to drive the car a lot go black. Body color will look like crap in a year or so. When I painted my car I went with body color and have regretted it ever since.
Road grim will get in all the nocks & crannies and it is almost impossible to get out. A low gloss/satin black will look...
I have purcahsed from Laysons several times over the past 5 or 6 years. The first two times the items were in stock and I had them within a week. The last time was to order tail light lens for the Cuda. They were not in stock and they told me that it would be 3 or 4 months before they had them...
My 68 Notchback is the same way. Not sure if the PO had the window out and ground off the studs or it was an early car that used the 67 style trim. In any case the car came with a 67 style gasket that takes the chrome lock strip which I am curretnly using until I get ambitious and pull out the...
Stephens Performance (www.stephensperformance.com) advertises they will have new repro bumpers soon. I called last summer and they had no date.
I picked up one from the Bumper Boyz at a local show and it is nice. A buddy has had a pair on his Cuda for the past 5 years or so and they are...
FWIW, The term 2K only refers to the fact that the paint requires a catalyst (activator) to cure, it has nothing to do with the purpose of the paint. I have never seen an automotive "epoxy" paint that was not a 2K system.
