'65 Small Block Exhaust Manifold Gskts Installed Wrong?

Just for fun, I noticed the driver's side exhaust manifold on our '72 Satellite turns down instead of up like on the '65 Formula S.

'65 Small Block Exhaust Manifold Gskts Installed Wrong?

So the gasket that rises up higher goes on the passenger side as pictured and the low-rise gasket goes on the driver's side? Edit: Added two more driver's side photos with my finger touching the gasket shroud down next to the spark plug in the second photo.

'65 Small Block Exhaust Manifold Gskts Installed Wrong?

Motor stands the same now as when purchased over 10 years ago. I just noticed that the combo exhaust gaskets/heat shields may have been installed by a previous owner swapped driver's side/passenger side. What do you think? Second and last photo are driver's side. Third and fourth photos are...

Warning: TTI Exhaust with A/T, Console, Manifolds ('65 Abody).

Update: I could not remember which H-Pipe side was driver and which side was passenger. I called tti today and found that right and left are actually stamped into the pipes on each end. That makes it easy to figure out. Sure enough, even ten years later the stampings are still very clear and...

Warning: TTI Exhaust with A/T, Console, Manifolds ('65 Abody).

The specs for all of these high temp silicones are confusing to me. This describes what product I purchased: 500°F / 260°C continuous rating, 800°F / 426°C for periods up to 30 minutes 2200°F / 1205°C for periods up to 15 minutes and short excursions to 3000°F / 1650°C. AS1072 Aerospace grade...

Warning: TTI Exhaust with A/T, Console, Manifolds ('65 Abody).

Another one step forward, two steps back restoration update. A local (at the time) general repair shop originally installed the 2.5 inch full TTI exhaust system (using stock exhaust manifolds) about ten years ago now. Although the factory clamps hold it up right against the floorboard...

    Cart Before the Horse (again)?

After treating myself to a bacon and eggs breakfast, out to give it one more "college try". I loosened the donut retaining nut on the passenger side but left it partially threaded on. I removed the donut retaining nut and washer on the driver's side. Then placed a 2 X 6 block standing up on the...

    Cart Before the Horse (again)?

I tried engine lifting from the center carb plate at two different positions (has a total of four holes, fore and aft) and it did not quite fit. I still need to find another way to lift, next time using more of an angle starting the lift from the drivers side.

First I will attempt a slight motor lift. I am starting another thread regarding exhaust manifold gaskets for 318/340 that don't match the 273 ports.

Accurate Fitting 273 Exhaust Manifold Gaskets?

In 1965 the factory used metal exhaust gaskets with built in heat shields which were used on both driver and passenger sides as far as I know (at least they are still in place on the '65 Signet convertible here in the back yard-see photos 1 & 2). The gaskets I found in my two complete overhaul...

    Cart Before the Horse (again)?

That might be a solution. I have not removed the column before; what's (specifically) involved in removing the steering column?

Studs or no studs, can't even even get close to the rear stud to begin with but I'll keep trying.

    Cart Before the Horse (again)?

Step one seems easy enough if we quote the the 1965 factory service technical manual (pages 11-6 and 11-7): Exhaust Manifold (273 Cubic Inch Engine) Installation (1) Position the two outboard arms of the manifolds on the two studs on cylinder heads, using new gaskets. Install the conical...

    Cart Before the Horse (again)?

Where is the thread explaining the best procedure to install/remove the driver's side exhaust manifold on an early A (64-66) V-8 with power brakes and power steering? I thought that big curve in the end would allow me to snake the manifold in from the top with the motor/transmission installed...

    early A-BODY 1-5/8" x 1-3/4" SMALL BLOCK STEP HEADERS

With headers I am sure it is a different story, but I thought I would mention this just the same: I run the factory stock manifolds with the TTI 2 1/2" dual exhaust system on the '65 Formula S. The instructions included the machining of the oil filter bolt head which we performed. I don't know...

    Three's A Crowd

The photo in post #4 shows two supports. I am beginning to believe the factory only installed the forward one. Edit: Above statement wrong--there are two braces, not one. Per diagram in FSM page 9-1: "Engine External Parts (V8 Cylinder) - 273 Cu. In. Displacement and per parts listing in FSM...

There should be millions of these "supports" laying around. Where are they? I guess the same place all the factory bumper jacks are to be found.

This '65 driver's side exhaust manifold flange has three holes, two for the head pipe and one for maybe a brace I have never seen installed.
