    Whats everyone running for gears?

I kind of wish it had 4.30's or 4.10's vs 3.91's 2nd gear be more fun with 4.30's but yeah 75 mph would be screaming, those 3.91's are still up there but livable If you can drive 55 on long hauls then OK

    200R4 update

Looks great but I thought hearing the screaming exhaust at 4,500 on the freeway was half the fun, lol True the power street pump isn't too happy and neither is my gas money Seems like its only worth it if you drive the car alot on the freeways, my manual trans 904 is nice - simple and...

    TCI 904 Sizzler ?????

Got a 10 inch streetfighter converter 2 years ago, its working just great. For the trans rebuilt I had a local trans guy do it. He feels TCI converters are the best buy for your money

Opinions on full manual valve body

Huh, my has engine braking in both 3rd and 2nd gear, its 1st gear there isn't no braking, which is great for putting around the parking lots

Opinions on full manual valve body

I got it on mine with a column shift, 3rd gear is where 1st gear used to be, its great, screaming in 2nd gear you just shift down till it stops, can pay 100% whats happening on the road. Its a Cheetah--no low band and no problems in 10 years. Now I never punch it in 1st gear unless the car is...

    Minor glitch with my 727....

Rubber gaskets always leak for me and you should never use sealer on the pan gasket Get a cheap cork gasket

Are 3.55 gears a good choice?

keep the 3.23 and put in a tight 10 inch converter and then see how it is. I got 3.91's and love them, the prefect gear around town but yes, 3,500--4,000 on the freeway does waste gas--don't think it really hurts the engines-like a 340 which is made to rev but gas $$$ adds up and traffic...

    4.56s

The gears should bolt right in, just need to swap gears out, carriers are the same from 2.73 on up

    Who should I buy a 727 or 904 from?

Fraley's Transmission in Pontiac who I use since I stop pulling trans out with 4 jack stands, its local and the place is cool fair prices and he-Tim-does stand behind their work. If you going to ship the trans and install yourself, I would go with the 727 trans just cause its more HD and can...

    Where to purchase a A-500 / A-518

I waiting to see how the 200R 4 trans update turns out, might be the best way to go-who cares the name on it, its how it fits and works that matters. Since Mopar couldn't come through, I find somebody elses trans to work, the 200R seems like a good maybe

Looks good, nice work ! The harder it is to cut the better its made. Be happy it was a ***** to cut

    200R4 update

Nope, we always need to compromise since we own Mopars and not Chevy's Why I'm keeping my 904 trans for the time being, overdrive would be great but it all adds up and its too much for me, lol Once the trans-adapter is all install I doubt it be very noticeable, this job isn't cheap, why...

    200R4 update

Good luck with the instal, if I ever went with an od trans the gm trans route I think I go with, Mopar OD trans seems too big and computer control, yuck I might have went with ATI trans thou but so what, you got your stuff and hopefully its done right. You always can hacksaw the adapter to size

8 3/4 geared to low. Whats compatable?

I thought it shifts 4 times :D I get a laugh out of reading 1970 car mags, they usually make little reference to 3.91--4.10 gears not being highway friendly. Comparing a 1971 3.55 gear 383 Road Runner to a 4.10 gear 440 6 pack Road Runner they go on to say how both cars about about even zero...

Lowband apply question for the Transmission Gurus

I been using one on the street for 10 years now, no explosions yet, lol Just never ever jump all the way on first once moving. Only from dead stops--or just about-or slowly get in to it, let everything get a chance to hold on. You can go wot once moving but not by punching it wide open as...

727 doesn't shift into second gear like it should

But hows the 2--3 shift. That is were my 904 needed some tuning before it went in to storage. The 1-2 shift is great, barks the tires but 2-3 slips a tad at full throttle shifts--its a manual valve body

727 doesn't shift into second gear like it should

just cause he knows this late model stuff good doesn't mean he knows the old 60's tricks of the trade.

727 doesn't shift into second gear like it should

Yep, my trans sequels the tires on the 1--2 shift. sequels them loud shifting at 6,500. You take off nicely and then around 45 mph light the tires up in 2nd by banging it in to 2nd gear :D

    The decision is made

I don't know, 3.23 gears could work ok and cheaper. With the 2.74 first gear and the drop to 1.57 second gear, its going to still lug at certain speeds, the converter will be a big help. I think your going to find out thou at 10-20 mph, 1st gear will be too much and 2nd gear not enough...

Rear Tires Suddenly Lock Up Going 65

These cars can kill you--I don't give a **** how good-safe you drive. In any car, when your on the road you are at more risk for death or injury then you are in your house or in the yard. That car looked like it lost control and went sideways in to a tree, this is why roll bars aren't a bad...

TCI or Turbo Action 3000 stall converter??

I got the TCI cause it was in stock at the time. My unit was made 4 / 2010, it feels great. At 800 rpm stop it still creeps up and needs the brake to not move yet its there when needed. I really happy with it. Feels tighter then the break away converter I had in the 90's yet has more stall...

    3:55 gears on the street

3.91's and 27 inch tall tires, it turns 4,000-to 4,500 on the freeway but cause I still go 80 mph plus, lol the 340 seems to like it, now mpg, Ha Ha. $20 goes too quick. 3.55 would been better but it took many years of 70 mph speed limits for traffic to speed up. 5--10 years ago I was...

    Rear End gear Whine

When I got my 8 1/4 back from DTS after it was rebuilt with a new suregrip and 3.91's it had a little whine, was told its normal. That was in 1997 and it must have well over 50,000 miles by now, if not much more. Think its better now but maybe I don't notice it anymore ? DTS told me HP gears...

    Line bore = cracked convertor??

Hmmm, I got around 5,000 miles on my TCI streetfighter converter which did not fit in the crank all the way ? We had to grind the snout to fit--it went in but not far enough. Had no problems with it and TCI is not liked on here too much, maybe I got lucky ? I also put new rubber motor mounts...
  27. D

    Line bore = cracked convertor??

Solid motor mounts do not belong on the street. 5,500 rpm's isn't that much. I would swap motor mounts before it cracks again--or something else cracks

    8 3/4 or dana

Yep, cause when you cheap out, it just costs more in the long run. Plus those Dana's aren't going to be cheaper later on. If you got a few months check on here and ebay, you might score a great deal

Rear Tires Suddenly Lock Up Going 65

Heck you should had shift it in to 2nd gear right when the tires locked. Then if they unlocked you know it be in the trans.
