MIG welding problem finally solved after years

Well at least you caught your mistake before buying a new machine. Can't say I have ever done that but plenty of other stupid things to make up for it lol.

    rodent proofing a garage

We had a shed one year we kept the Christmas tree and junk in, when I brought in the Christmas stuff that year I also brought in some mice. What a pia. Ended up bringing in a Rubbermaid trash can and ran a yard stick from the counter to the trash can with the majority of the yard stick over the...

    Earlex HVLP Turbine 5500 System

I know its not what you asked but do you have an air compressor? 350, If that's the same price you were looking at seems a bit high for a "tool" you wouldn't use much. I knew nothing of painting cars but jumped in and have painted 5 in the past few years all with my 60 gallon compressor and a...

    Found a cool product today.

Years back I purchased a cordless droplight with a magnetic back, works awesome until it gets the inevitable bump and then comes down on your face, always just your face... nothing else, I have seen it fall up and go from the ground to 6 feet straight up going for my face lol, seriously though...

    Compressor tank cleaning

For those that have done this, is adhesion not a problem? I mean everything I've done in the past (never inside air compressor tank) if I don't properly prep the surface I never manage to get anything to stick.

    Compressor tank cleaning

Don't really have a solution, I have thought the same about mine and it's only maybe 3 years old. I would be hesitant on doing anything for fear of it not adhering properly and flaking off into my lines, tools and worse paint.

    copper vs pvc compressor lines?

It was mentioned a few times ink, I personally have 0 experience with it but have heard good things from guys running it. As some have continued to suggest PVC piping I can only again urge against it. Black iron or copper, perhaps the PEX also but not PVC. It can get wacked with something in...

    Buffer for polishing.

I know Harbor freight is hit and miss, not sure if it would be okay with your arm but I was looking for one a few years back and grabbed one from them. Still going strong and it's had it's use. Here's a thread on them that's pretty useful after the first few pages...

    Chainsaws....

We have a stihl at work, actually had several over the years as well as a few concrete saws. Worthless junk IMO. Hard starting and run like crap. If you even let them think your going to set them down they shut off. McCulloch is my saw, old but will sit till I need it and don't complain if...

Help, I can't get off my creeper

    copper vs pvc compressor lines?

Black iron pipe as already suggested. Fairly inexpensive, mine has been in service for years with 0 issues. Run a flexible line from compressor to pipe and I think it was 35 ft minimum for the length to allow the air to cool. I have maybe 40-50 ft 3/4 pipe ran in a u pattern to get my length...

    Welding questions

Also, depending on access, which doesn't seem to be an issue with what your welding, for holes or slightly larger gaps you can hold a piece of copper, brass or aluminum behind your weld. Works nicely allowing you fill the hole and doesn't stick to the copper. A piece of tubing works well if you...

    Welding questions

Was just getting ready to ask about the tips as well, look closely and the tip size will be on the tip. Match it to your wire size. Also, depending on your drive wheel it may need to be flipped over or changed to match the wire size also, my Miller for example has 2 different grooves depending...

    what welding helmet to use

I have a harbor fright one also, bit bigger viewing I think then the one above. My second in about 6 years. First one broke under no fault of the helmet, ran it over. Not the best helmets but work fine and response is fast enough that you don't get flashed. Biggest thing I would say is wear a...

    new welder

I think the thing only weighs 25-30 lbs if i remember correctly, biggest obstacle would be the fence. Its bad when someone steals from you, its really bad when they work for you as well.

    new welder

Did you get the tig pack? I thought about that welder several times but decided on the 211, I don't have a NEED to tig just would have liked the option but my wallet decided for me ultimately.

    old tool boxes

I agree with the others, if they are functional leave them as is, actually look nice IMO. Your not going to be able to put a quality finish that will last for 40+ years like what's on them now unless you go with powder coating. I love the authentic nostalgic look personally.

    Home made welding carts

I used an old hand truck and modified a harbor freight cart that they had on sale one week, then added a receptacle for easier plug in. As others have said just grab a heavy duty extension cord and change the ends to what you need. I used a 10/3 from Lowe's for mine.

    New Compressor questions

Look at the motor, it will state the run time on it. Mine is 5hp rated continuous meaning it can run without fear of over loading itself. It's on a 60 gallon tank and when running a da or something for extended time I still wait here and there mainly so the air doesn't get moisture in it...

Welder too cheap to be true?

Typically speaking you don't want flux core for sheet metal. You don't want to try welding anything thin with self shielding wire, spatter, burn through, more grinding needed on your welds, just overall not a good idea. Flux burns hotter and for thicker stuff it becomes more of an option. Gas is...

    Multimeter

Can't argue with that, glad it worked out for you, myself, a centec one from HF, years of use and still working fine.

    Die grinder from Harbor Freight

That's the thing with HF stuff, it's rolling the die.. In your case literally. You can normally find outlets in the stores and I test anything electrical, they don't even question what I am doing lol. Certain things when you buy the warranty and your still at less then half the cost of a brand...

How to butt weld 2 pipes together straight?

Be a bit cautious with anything galvanized, the coating is hazardous when you start welding on it, try and keep your head out of the flume, and do it outdoors if possible.
