    Strange idle issue

The issues would come and go, even after playing with the carb. I recently checked the distributor vacuum advance diaphragm, no vacuum tool, it seemed fine. Guess it must have have a small leak because the issue would come and go. Now it was all the time. Checked timing and it was low. ( I run...

    Strange idle issue

When adding a spacer, there will be a larger volume of air under the carb. When there is more air, more fuel is needed.

    Strange idle issue

Problem solved. I just wasn’t thinking when I added the 1/4” carb spacer. Added a little more fuel to the idle and all is well.

    Strange idle issue

You are absolutely right. I believe that narrows it down to 2 things. Vacuum advance diaphragm or the factory style carbon carb spacer I installed a week or two ago when all this started. I am going to start with the spacer.

    Strange idle issue

Just had a brainstorm. I wonder if my vacuum advance diaphragm is going bad. I run full manifold vacuum. If the diaphragm is bad that would drop my initial way down and the idle also. But that wouldn’t explain the extreme lean condition on the AFR gauge

    Strange idle issue

Could be water. I bought gas from a station I don’t normally go to. I am sure the 93 octane pumps don’t get used as much as the others.

    Strange idle issue

Last few times I drove the car (67 Dart), it started fine. Drove it 5 miles or so, shut it off, 5 minutes later restart it, idles about 700 rpm. Normally idles at 850 rpm. Driving back home (5 mile return trip) it has a definite miss. Could be a spark plug, BUT, I get home, leave it idling and...

Put the #70 jets back in ( surging went away) the primary’s and at 3000 rpm in high gear I am around 12.5 ratio. It did not like the #68 jet in the primary’s. I also went from #76 to #78 jet in the rear and the AFR is now at 12.8 ish at 5000 rpm. Should I leave it there or rejet the PVCR and...

Need Quick Fuel carb tuning assistance

I am wondering since I am having to fatten up the carb, if I should have went to a 750 cfm. Power wise, I am right in that gray area (411 hp at 5700 rpm) where 650 cfm runs out and 750 cfm picks up. But this is not a drag car either. Street only with occasional spirited throttle testing.

Dropped fuel level to bottom of sight glass (has the large sight glasses). Cleaned up idle AFR just a touch 13.5ish, engine also idled up just a hair with this adjustment. I went down to 68 jets and it does not like it. Lots of surging, going back to #70 (stock jet) and go from there. Bought 8'...

That was a good read. Now it is making more sense. The books I have just don't go into any real detail about emulsion. Thanks.

This is the cam I have. 20-227-4 - Xtreme Hi-lift Hydraulic Flat Tappet Camshafts I will round up another tach and verify idle speed. Timing is at 20* at idle. I bought that tach 25 years ago and never got to use it until I put it in this car. Hard to find a tach with both the red pointer...

I know that the emulsion ports in the metering block bring air into the fuel. Also the IFR jet in the upper bowl side of the block restricts the amount of fuel going to the idle circuit. BUT, if I were to close off one of the 3 emulsion holes, what would that do? I assume it would put less air...

The #69 jet helped just a touch. May need to go #68. Forgot to video the vacuum gauge but it was between 9”-10” at idle. Third gear to the floor, let out at 5000 and AFR was at 13.1. Video of idle coming if I can post it. Says file is too large.

Opinion on emulsion holes in metering blocks. Mine have 10 per block. Should I block off some of these? Or would it richer up the mixture if I do that?
